I was interested in both Tanning and using Retin - A.
Ive heard not to do them together.
How long should i wait to tan after stopping Retin A usage (or the other way around)?
any advice/suggestions? Thanks![]()

Retin-A is meant to be used continuously for a long period of time. The bare minimum you should wait to tan (or wax!) is 3 days after you stop using it but in my experience it's better to wait even longer...like 1-2 weeks. You can basically kiss tanning your face (and waxing your eyebrows) goodbye.
is it true Retin A makes your face a little lighter?

no, that hasn't been my experience at all. Are you thinking of hydroquinone perhaps? What are you using the Retin-A for?
eta: maybe the face looks lighter because it's not being tanned anymore?
I think it would make you a bit lighter because you're exfoliating and sloughing off dead cells.. Dead cells which are probably tanned, so the new skin would be slightly lighter..
Also, be aware that if you tan too soon you will severly damage your skin. Because of the exfoliating effect your skin has no protection from the sun and just a few minutes of exposure can cause dark spots. (A friend of mine swears itonly took 15 min to get major brown spots without sunscreen.)
Another thing to consider is that Vit A becomes toxic when exposed to UV rays. There have been no studies to show that Retin A does this, or could harm you through absorption, but why take the chance.

^ egads, scary! i definatley won't put retin a and tanning together too soon (hence the question)
I was looking into using Retin A for pimples and hopefully to fix some darker spots on my skin from previous pimples. Ive just heard great things about Retin A. I only get really bad skin during period time though.
As for the lightning question, maybe i was thinking about chemical peel or soemthing hmm...
Ah now i must pick one, Tan or Retin A
thanks for the info!
