    Default Reaalllly long period

My periods usually last about 4 days, sometimes with some spotting on the fifth day.

BUT... this period is the period from hell. Its actually scaring me... is this normal?

-I'm on my 7th day of bleeding
-Its just as heavy as the day I started it
-I've gone through almost a full box of 40 regular tampax, when I normally use about 10-15
-My flow is normally (I know, TMI here) dark colored and clotted. This time its the color blood you bleed during a fresh wound: bright red. Its also very thin.

I still have all of the symptoms of my normal p.m.s... sadness, crampiness, uncontollable urge to eat fried food... but I started having this p.m.s. almost 2 weeks ago! Its as strong as it was a week before I actually had my period! Gah!!!

Should I go to the doctor tomorow, or am I just being a baby?

    Periods are stupid, aren't they?

I've had similar ones before but usually I could attribute them to a change in birth control or stress. I've had it last a little over 2 weeks before but I've always been fine. My periods have been pretty normal with the occasional wacky one for a couple years but before that they were totally random. When mine went on for a while I had the same "bright" flow you describe.

If its totally out of the blue for you and lasts another couple days I don't think a doc visit would be out of the question. I'd hate to say "oh its nuttin" if its something. I had a friend who was *tmi ahead* going through pads every 5 minutes for about 2 weeks before she found out she had some sort of cyst. Most likely I'd say its nothing and your body is just getting out of whack for a bit but if it persists another few days I'd go.

Careful. It's possible to hemorrage. I have PCOS and before I went on hormone therapy I would bleed to scary extents as well. Get it checked. Even still I have 17 day periods if I'm not careful.

Are you on birth control? I tried bc pills ONCE and I experienced the same thing. I stay away from artificial hormones now.

If this isn't bc related, see an md asap.

    Hmm....
When I miscarried.....I had the same kind of bleeding....it was red, liek a cut, not the darker kind liek a period. It was also thin, and lasted a very logn time like that.

But you said nothign of cramps. I had terrible cramps, and they felt different than normal period cramps, and they lasted a very long time. The cramps lasted 5 or 6 days, as opposed to normal cramps that last 2...and nothing i took could make them better....

It could be a hormone thing...esp if you just gone on or off or switched birth control.
    It could be a miscarriage.
    It could be nothing.

If it lasts another day or two without letting up..I'd call a dr just to be safe. And make sur eyou are eating a lot of iron if you arent used to losing this much blood.
