Default Is the Magic in Portland still lucrative?

I used to hear stories about girls making 400+ on mid, and more at night. Is this still true? Does anyone on SW currently work at the Magic?

I don't, but a lot of girls at my club have worked the magic. Many have left because of beign treated badly, and/or havign Patty steal too much of their earnings. Many more work there still- but only when Patty's not there.

I've asked a lot of them about their earnings. That seems a tad high. More like $200 for a mid, 4-500 or a night. Of course, you probably have heard the gossip about how Patty chooses her evening girls.

I think a lot of dancers like it at first and then quickly get over it, so it might be worthwhile to work there for that short period of time.

A girl I worked with at Carnaval on um... Tuesday said that she had had a decent shift that day at Magic... she said about $200 from 12-4. Sounds good to me! Of course when it's just you +1 other girl max you're earning every.single.dollar. individually, but it seems like a good atmosphere.

Another girl I talked to said that if she works a First Thursday night shift she expects to make around $400.

Man, now I want to work at Mary's again but it's increasingly less possible (at this point I'm leaving town both next week for BM and then in about 5 weeks for Guam). Not to mention that the festival i'm working for right now even mentions Mary's in its welcome packet for fun things to do downtown! d'oh.

Magic was ok when i worked there last summer. Like the other gals said, Patty dictates her night dancers. i was there for 3 months, never once got a night shift, so I left. Decent day/mids though. Anywhere from 150-200 for me. I considered that pretty good due to the construction on 4th ave. I rarely dealt with patty directly seeing as she only bartended nights. When I did interact with her I was able to steer clear of any negativity despite what others have experienced. To me, it was clear that Patty had a controlling and motherly tendancy. If you work there don't allow the bartender to hold your ones behind the bar for you. They do that for some of the girls,a practice that I was very uncomfortable with. They tried to make me feel weird for keeing a hold of my cash, but nobody keeps a better eye on my money than me. My advice: If you can avoid patty, go for it. There were some great girls there, although some of the night girls reminded me of abused pets. There was money to be made. Not too sure of the current situation.

There's a pretty entertaining review on here from badpixie's audition experience there.

    Gypsy-No minors allowed.

Anomar, I know the girl you mean! She's pretty sweet, I think she also pulls a shift at Cabaret everysooften....

At any rate, good luck Sun Child! I tend to doubt its all that great though...

Ok, here's the gossip about Patty. Incredibly old, looks in her 80's, but is probably pretty weathered. Steals from the dancers- it's well known. Pressuress (and sometimes insists) that girls keep their tips behind the bar with her throughout the night. Even if you hold yuor own money, when you cash it out she'll give you back less and insist you counted wrong. This might be why she likes to hire the most f-ed up girls she can find to work her shifts (which, of course, are the most lucrative nights). LOTS of drug use at the club, which seems to make Patty love you and get all motherly, but these are the girls she steals from the most. She likes the ones that are so messed up they can't even count their money and have to ask her to do it. Has lots of wierd rules that change a lot. Get's pissed over the tiniest things (like if you're doing private dances and go over your schedule by so much as a few minutes, she freaks and yells) Most people don't last long because they can't take it anymore and leave, or commit some minor infraction and Patty takes them off the schedule, or puts them on less desirable shifts.

^ I would go APESHIT if someone tried to steal from me and tell me "I counted wrong." Like, maybe even throw some shit or something. Cause a huge scene. Not acceptable.

Honestly, Sun child, I wouldn't bother with the Magic then. Unless you can avoid patty, and are just looking to add some day shifts before your nights at other clubs. I've known a couple girls who got good shifts at Magic who insisted Patty NEVER steals from them...but they both TOTALLY fit the bill, biggest drug users (the hard stuff, meth, crack, etc.), totally irresponsible with their money, leaving it in piles around the dressing room, falling out of their open bags, have to count it a dozen times or ask other girls to do it, or just giving up and stumbling towards the bar with handfuls of waded bills...I really doubt they would know. I also know plenty of straight girls who really have their shit together who've worked with Patty, and they've all said "I KNOW I made more than she gave me." I used to want to audition there because everyone said I had the look and would bank there...but I've seen so many girls at my club who've gone through it and they all end up leaving pretty fast, with a lot of resentment. Unless you've really got a thick skin, a high tolerance for drama, and don't mind having a portion of your money stolen occasionally, I would avoid working her shifts. And if you do work with Patty, don't bring a boy to your audition, even as a ride, and don't let Patty know if you have a boyfriend. She really doesn't like that for some reason. Although one girl once said to me "unless he's beating you." Not sure what that means, maybe just a comment on Patty liking her girls messed up and desperate.

Oh yeah... the one girl I mentioned in my other post is a definite upper-abuser (when I first worked with her at another club the owner told me to avoid her!). I can see how she'd dig Magic so much since she fits fifi's bill.

Watch your drinks around Patty as well.

She might put a roofie in it or some other substance that makes you black out and not remember everything. Happened to me.

MAKE SURE that she pours it in front of you, that the glass is taken from where it should be and DO NOT leave your drink alone anywhere near her or anyone else for that matter.

    Scary stuff.

Ive been at marys for two and a half years and right now its really hard to get on, were overloaded with girls and even those of us that have been there for a very long time are only getting two shifts. its a amasing club and i love it there, but if youre tryin gto make a full time living off of it , it can be a bit challenging due to only so many shifts to go around..

That is bullshit. I worked for patty and though I don't anymore, she's never been anything but nice to me. In fact she let me do a guest spot when I was in with some friends a few weeks ago. She can be a real handful this is true and not everyone likes her and that's fine but there's a lot of nasty mean spirited talk going on about patty and it's just not fair or very nice. do unto others people...

On and lest you think I'm one of her pets or something I never worked a night shift there, the best I got was a mid and when I needed to take on later shifts to accommodate my school schedule, NO IVY ON THE SCHEDULE. It was sucky and I was mad about it but not at her and clearly I have no hard feelings towards her.

I'm going to agree with you for the most part, but its true that she does like to mother the girls, and she does in fact steal from some of them. I have worked there off and on for ten years, and still work there sometimes. I love patty to death, but yes, she is a handful, and yes, you need to watch yourself and your back around her.

    So defensive.

Just because *you* happened to have had better experiences than I (and many others have had) doesn't mean that gives you the right to negate my post and say that what happened to me is "bullshit".

It happened and that's that. No more, no less.

I still watch my drinks no matter where I go, where I dance or where I choose to spend my leisure time out of the home.
