    Default Vacationing alone

I wanna take a trip by myself.

Somwhere I can be in nature, away from concrete and casinos....
Preferably near water..a lake, stream, ocean..anything.

    Recommendations?

    Cheap places to stay?

Maybe rent a cabin in the woods for a few days...
a place witha spa woudl be nice.

I just wanna be alone with myself for awhile.

mexico is cheap. canada is cheap ish. in US i recommend VT, Maine, Wash (seattle). cheapwise, VT and maine, this is the off season. i dont knwo abotu pricing in seattle. i personally love portland, or. and think there's probably some cheap cool stuff there.

i went to alaska and that was AMAZINGLY refreshing, clarity was amazing. probably nearing the end of tourist season up there and i bet there are cabins in the woods for rent. not so cheap..

i'd just do a resort in mexico if i was in your shoes. all inclusive and cheap.

    Love it!

    Alaska sounds nice...
Mexico...I'm worried about safety of traveling there alone, knowing nothing..

Where woudl I even look in Mexico?

I've been to Maine before, that actually was very nice...but a plane ticket out there would nt be so cheap.
I need to stick with this side of the country.

    I'll look into Portland....

    Thank you

    Kaylinn,
How about Santa Barbara? I went to undergrad there. If you fly from vegas to lax, there is a bus which will take you from the los angeles airport to downtown SB for like $60 roundtrip...There are reasonably cheap inns and hotels along the beach and/or near lower State Street and it is not main tourist season there so it will be relatively peaceful. The local bus is safe and there is a zoo very near the beach and downtown as well as private/secluded beaches just north of downtown SB in Goleta which is near the university. Plus, when you want to have fun, all the clubs on State have a very laidback vibe. I highly recommend it. It is one of the most peaceful cities I've ever been in, let alone lived in!

The first two things that come to my mind would be Glacier National Park, there are plenty of cabins to rent and 2nd thought would be anywhere on the Oregon coast....I'd go in the "off season" which is coming up here very soon, prices drop like a rock!

If you want to fly, I'd let the cost of the ticket determine where you go. Good fares can sometimes be found from LV to SD, Portland, Seattle, even Reno (you could drive into the Tahoe region) or SF (SouthWest and Virgin America are starting service there) and head up into the Marin/Sonoma coast area. Or once Sept. hits you could drive into southern Utah and the national parks there. Zion and Bryce have great lookouts to sit and watch the sunrise. Solitude is such a necessary thing in my life.

I'd nix the Mexico idea, I went to Jamaica by myself and it was a complete
nightmare. I was constantly hit on and followed so, not cool or safe. Same thing ALWAYS happens to me in Vegas too.
If I were you'd I'd look into a retreat in California or Arizona.

Normally I'd tell you to come here to Montana, but the state is wracked with bad forest fires- the air is smoky and there's a good chance this might spoil your time here.

Try California or Oregon....& Call a few local travel agents. They might be able to find you a satisfactory package deal with a discount.

It's in upstate NY but check out peacevillage.com. They even have silent retreats and it's all FREE. It's run by the Brahma Kumaris organization. But they don't try to make you join.

The Pismo Beach suggestion was a good one. I love Pismo Beach, it's so beautiful and peaceful but there's enough to do if you get bored. I take frequent solo trips like this and they're wonderful.

I don't know how far you want to travel, but there's plenty of nature and solitude in Arkansas and Tennessee. I'm always happiest in the mountains, personally. As a beautiful woman traveling alone, you have to keep your eyes open, but most people are not evil. Look at Mountain View, Arkansas, or anywhere in the Great Smokey Mountains. Oh, and there's an inexpensive place in Tennessee called Natchez Trace where my grandparents often spend the weekend hiking.

If you want to be around some people a little more, there is a hippie commune called The Farm in Summertown, TN. They have a website and it looks like a really lovely place to reconnect with nature and the better side of humanity. I'm looking to spend a weekend there myself sometime soon.

And soon I want to take K to Chincoteague Island, off the coast of Virginia. It's one of the most beautiful little communities I've ever been to and I'd love to go back.

I LOVE Pismo Beach. I lived in San Luis Obispo, for 7 years, when I was in school. It is my favorite spot in all of Cali and I would move back in a heartbeat. It has spa's, beaches, California's 2nd largest sand dunes, hot springs, hiking and really cute college town...I could go on and on. Seriously one of my favorite spots in the world. Probably cheaper than Santa Barbara, too.

Not to expensive, either and safe by yourself. It's about a seven hour drive form Vegas or you can fly directly into San Luis Obispo.

    Otherwise, I love Utah too.
St. George is gorgeous, it has some nice spa's. Only a two hour drive from Vegas. I stop there all the time when I'm commuting from Salt Lake City.

I took a great trip by myself right before I separated from my ex-husband. I went to a little island between Hliton Head and Savannah called Daufuskie Island. There are no highways there, people get around via golf cart or bicycle. You must take a ferry from either Hilton Head or Savannah to get to the island itself. There are a couple reknown golf courses there. It is very animal friendly. I took my baby in the restaurant, hotel, everywhere I went she went. I enjoyed the more historical areas where a few artists live. Everything is very serene and quiet. I stayed at the Island Resort there which was sort of expensive but I understand they have more reduced rates if you book in advance, which I did not. But it was definately an experience I will never forget.

Pretty close to you would be Sedona or the Grand Canyon. I went there alone last September and it was wonderful. There are also a lot of spas and a very naturally beautiful place.

I loved going on a solo vacation. I recommend it to everyone!

I found a cute b&b in San Diego. Everyone always says San Diego is beautiful and nice, so I've always wanted to see it. Plus I want to go to the zoo.

So I think I might go there for 3 or 4 days. Plus it's within driving distance, so I can save money by not flying.

Montana is MIGHTY nice right now. And there's a very nice gym with a nice spa and 9 natural hot spring fed pools. Very nice. Me likey.

You could camp out, or rent a room in the local hostel, or get a reasonably cheap hotel. There's one that's decent for around $60 a night if you call and book asap.

If you want trees and outdoorsy, I'd recommend Yosemite. Especially now that the summer season is about to wind down. Not too bad of a drive from LAS either.

San Diego is absolutely beautiful. You're going to love it. I miss living there...I would move back in a heartbeat.

I know that Michigan isn't really the place anyone would want to come for a vacation, but it can be really nice. Up in the Upper Peninsula we have so many beautiful places, even here in the Lower Peninsula, but it's just so peaceful up north.

Mackinac Island is touristy, but it's a break from reality. No cars are allowed on the island, you have to take a ferry over. There is a hotel and a few B&B's on the island, otherwise you can cross back over and stay in a nearby town. I also love Tehquamenon Falls, quite a drive from where I am(it's like wayyy up in the U.P.). But when I'm stressed out I love going there. Just kind of disappear for a few days, and come back refreshed and relaxed.
