    Exclamation My BuddyBear is Gone

Today started out so shitty. I was getting ready for work and my dog Dakota all of a sudden started whining and shaking, and he died right in front of us on the floor as we were on the phone to our vet. It pains me that it sounded like he was in so much pain. We don't have the money to run tests, so we'll just never know. I called off of work. I've been bawling on and off.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. Maybe he had a stroke? At least it was fast.

I'm trying to upload pictures for a slideshow in his memory. I'll let you all know.

I don't know what happened. He started shaking, and then wretching like he was going to vomit but no vomit came out. This kept repeating and he'd whine and howl really loud. His eyes went cloudy and then his bowels let loose and he stopped breathing.

I know we had 3 dogs, and I love all of them like children, but Dakota and I had a very close bond. He was like my little shadow. Wherever I was, he was at my feet.

Rob hasn't been able to cry yet.

God, I can't get his howls of pain out of my head! The expression on his face he died with was just horrible. SO much pain. At least it was quick.

Fuck dude. My dog Sassie died suddenly last February too.

At least he didn't die alone.

Here's the slideshow I put together real quick. It's not much. Click on the pic, and then in the photoshow you can mouse over the pics and they'll enlarge.

I also don't think it's the dog food. It was very sudden (he was fine right before this) and the food has been the same for years.

Awww, babe....I am so sorry for your loss! It almost sounds like some type of seizure. My lab does the same things...the howling, wretching, loss of bodily function...all while in seizure mode. At least he no longer is in any pain. The loss is never easy and I feel for you. *Big Hugs*

Sam had seizures like this, too. They didn't start until she was about 14, and she was never the same after.

CF- I hafta go into town for a little bit, but I will PM you when I get home, ok?

I'm really sorry, though. I know how hard it is to lose a fur baby.

I'm so sorry honey. Honestly the sympoms sound like poison of some sort. Is it possible he got into something or possibly this batch of food was tainted(esp with all the tainted pet food scares a few months ago)

They only eat dry kibble and I checked the recalls and it only says wet food.

It's possible he ate something bad... he liked to eat anything. Tissue, paper, my underwear, etc. Everytime I'd catch on to what he would look to eat, he'd find something else to go after.

Great, now R and I are arguing and he left the house. He wanted me to go out and do something today but I'm exhausted from work and now this has given me a headache. Somehow he also thinks he's not allowed to have any emotion over this. I asked him why he thought that and he didn't really have an answer. He was trying to imply that I have not allowed him, but I kept repeating that he can cry or feel it however he wants...

I feel like he's angry at me even though I know it's just about the dog and his feelings. It's just so hard. I don't want to fight.

People express grief in a ton of differant ways. My husband is like yours...he NEEDS to be as active as possible to deal. When his mom died, he refinished his basement. When his dad died...he built an entire wall of built in bookshelves in several rooms of our house.
I on the other hand..retreat in grief. I find it difficult to get out of bed, no less do anything constructive.
This can def. lead to arguments since the active one sees the other as wallowing and the retreater sees the active one as not facing their grief.

Best is to just let each person deal however they need to.

If he was into everything...he likely swalloed SOMETHING..could have been a bone from the trash, leftover rat poison tablet you didnt even know was there..ANYTHING. I had a pit bull that I took to work with me REGULARLY when I worked at the vet hospital to x-ray and test her because she did exactly this. Swallowed anything her mouth got near. So I completely understand how fast this can happen.
A necropsy might tell you what happened....but unless theres a chance he had something contagious...it is really just for your knowledge. So dont feel bad if you cant do it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is a traumatic experience. He was a beautiful dog. Vet technology isn't as advanced as human medical tech., they may never even know. I've been through this several times as well, and god was merciful in taking him quickly. My thoughts are with you in prayer.

As much as we'd like to know, we just don't have the money to have the Uni do one. We already "broke the bank" paying for his creamation, and we don't even get his ashes back.

Well I just talked to my mom and she happened to go over to the vet (we have the same vet) without knowing what happened and they said they think he had a massive heart attack.
