Thumbs down getting tested for cataracts today

i went to the eye doc last week for my contact lens exam and she's a little concerned i may have the beginning stages of cataract in my right eye

so i have to go in and get dilated. which will SUCK because i already have gigantic pupils that make me sensitive to light.

anyone had this done before? how long do you stay dilated?

I've had my pupils dilated, and I HATE it, it makes my eyes uncomfortable. Mine lasted a good amount of time, I had it done around 2pm and was still slightly dilated at around 8pm. If I were you, I'd plan on them being that way for the rest of the day, that way you'll be prepared, and if they go back to normal before then, yippee!

Don't forget sunglasses! You'll definitely need them. Good luck!

ok, i went and got them dialated. BURN! that stuff STINGS!

it's messed up! my pupils were 2 different sizes and off center! i looked crossed eyed for the first hour or so, lol.

now my eyes are almost all black. it's been almost 3 1/2 hours and they are still huge. she said it should last 2 hours. but they don't look like they're going down anytime soon. i tried to put my contacts back in when i was paying for the dialation, but then my eyes got all cockeyed and i couldn't read the debit machine, she had to show me the buttons! lol so i took them out.

i'm still wearing my sunglasses and have all the blinds drawn. i actually have my eyeglasses on too, haha my kids are like WTF? they think mommy is weird. hehe

soooo anywho's, she's still concerned and put me down as cataract suspicion. i have to go in tuesday for another test! GAH! this SUCKS!

she said though that if it is cataract then it's in the early stages and we can use some kind of eye drops to relieve the pressure in the eye to prevent it from getting worse.

i wonder though if i can wear contacts with these eye drops? and if i'll ever be able to get laser correction on my eyes.

    guess i'll know more tuesday!

If your eye color is paler (blue/green) you can react longer to the drops and take longer to no longer be dilated. Hope all is well.

I get it done every year I make my eye appointment. It takes about 30min before they are fully dilated. It usually lasts for me about 6-7hrs before I feel back to normal.
