Default My extensions are falling out like crazy!

My guy said it was normal to lose 5-10 strands in between maintance which is every 2-3 months. I have lost a total of 30 so far!!

I need to go see him almost every week to get them put back in. He cannot figure out why it's happening. Got the right products, I don't brush to much, I hold the hair when I brush it..I do everything exactly right.

This poor guy...is reapplying the strands each week free of charge.

Plus..I have massive amounts of shedding. I need to get them maintained in about 2 weeks, and he is ordering more hair to put in, also free of charge because my extensions already look thin and stringy because of how much shedding I've had.

Since he don't know why it's happening...I thought I'd ask if any of you had any idea why?

I am doing everything perfect. I can't be something I'm doing wrong. I only use the products he gave me, the hair brush he gave me specificially made for this hair...
    I don't sweat a lot....

    They are hairlocs extensions...

What do you do with your hair when you sleep? I had to sleep with mine in a loose braid, if I slept with them in a ponytail I'd roll over on pieces and end up loosening them and they'd fall out.

Other than that, the only thing I can think is maybe he put them on sections of hair that were too small, or your hair sheds alot more than normal, causing them to come out with your regular hair.

I slept on a satin pillow, and put them in a low, loose ponytail with a soft, scrunchie, not rubber band.

I lost some because I was rough on them stripping. Are you keeping conditioner away from the locs? Damn, I forgot what a pain those were.

Oh, and it could be that he didn't put them in very well. You need to adequately wax the tips, just enough to fit in the loc, not too much or too little. Does he have much experience with this type of extention?

Yes...he claims to have many years experience. hat was one reason I choose him. He said a lot of stylists might put in 1 set of extensions every month or so..but he does them weekly, so he has b=much more experience than most.

I do wonder if the tips aren't waxed properly....because the links are slipping right off the hair. I also wonder if he isn't clamping them tight enough?

I am keeping conditioner away from the locs. I only condition from the ponytail down. I haven't been stripping so I'm not rough on them in that aspect.

I do not sleep with them in any sort of ponttail or braid. I tried..but I just cannot sleep like that. My hair needs to be loose to sleep. I told him this and he said it wasn't a big problem. They were fallign out liek this the first week I got them, and at that point I was sleeping with them in 2 pigtail braids.

I'll get a satin pillowcase and see if that helps....

If he does them weekly, maybe it's because he NEEDS to do them weekly because they keep falling out! Experience might not necessarily mean competence.

I'd get a second opinion from another stylist, maybe.

No, I meant, he puts in extensions for clients on a weekly basis...not sees the same peopl eover and over....it's only me apprantly that he is seeing over and over.

I believe if this happened to all his clients, he would be out of bunsiess..because I am causing him to lose a lot of money..since he needs to keep repairing me so often free of charge.

Yeppers, if you take care of them and keep them brushed and washed, they'll shed and fall out like crazy, or at least mine did. I had to have a new box put in every other month, that's 500 bucks which includes labor and tip. Since, I have heard other's say to keep them braided or up when not "out" or working.

Sometimes, it's just a matter of your hair texture or even the oiliness of your scalp that can cause slippage.

What they don't tell you, and I've mentioned this to you before, is that these things are not good for every type of hair.

Sorry you're going through this. It happened to me as well and I just said fuck it...wasn't worth the hassle.

Also, please check the products he gave you. If any of them contain silicone, that's more than likely the culprit which is why I recommended Bumble & Bumble products.

    Good Luck!

    Kaylinn-
Is this your first set of hair extensions? Maybe you are getting used to them. I have had 5 sets so far. Now I don't have extensions, as my scalp and hair are resting. There are a lot of things that could be affecting your extensions. My first set was ok, but my 3'rd set was with a different girl, and most of them fell off after 3 months. The last time, I wore my extensions for 7 months, going in for highlights/color- not to add/touch-up the extensions. The day before you get them in, you may wash your hair, but do NOT condition it, or add any product to it. How close to the scalp is your stylist putting the extensions in? They should be close, but not too close. The closer they are, the longer it takes to grow out before they begin to show. How many do you have in? More extensions equal more volume, but too many means that smaller sections of hair are being used, which may not be able to support the weight of the extension. The extension will put too much pressure (or weight) on the scalp and the hair could end up falling out. Or you could develop enflamed hair follicles that will eventually make the hair fall out. So, you would lose not only the extension, but your real hair as well. How often are you washing? You should not wash too often. The best is Healthy Sexy Hair shampoo and conditioner for extensions. I am a beauty fanatic and love testing products. If you use this shampoo & conditioner, I have found they are best for hair with extensions- use the original formula (chocolate, pumpkin, etc. formulas are different than the original). You could wash your hair 2-3 times a week at most which would help prolong the life of the extensions. I never used a brush/comb. Use your fingers to gently pick through hair and comb out. I also like the Healthy Sexy leave in conditiong spray to help with hair detangles. I was able to blowdry, use a flat iron on my hair w/ no problems. I'm not good with curlers so I didn't try that, but I did have my hair curled at the salon, as well as a stylist doing it for me on other occasions.

I believe that the scalp after a while builds resistence to the extensions and each time gets more used to them. I am letting my hair rest as it was somewhat damaged from the extensions and my bleaching. The girl that took off my extensions was kind of rough removing them the last time which further damaged my hair. She could have spent longer with more dilligent removal, however this was due to the fact that I learned extensions stay on longer when the glue product used to adhere them to the hair is re-heated. A flat iron is perfect for this. I would use it over the glue are to make it adhere better. It adhered so well, they were near impossible to take off!

Good luck w/ yours. Maybe the new extensions will last longer.
