    Default chromium picolinate q

    I've been taking this stuff at 400mg everyday for almost a month. Its been alot easier to loose weight and not workout as much. I love this stuff since my body just can't handle tonalin. However, I boosted it up to 800mg a day taken once in the morning and once in the evening.

    Is this amount toxic and should I cycle this kind of supplement?

    I just looked at my bottle as I take this as well. It says there are 800 MCG i`m guessing yours is probably mcg as well. (There are 1000 mcg to 1 mg.) Did you read it wrong or am i taking substantially less?

    Yea mine is 400mcg per serving too. I read it wrong oops.

    TM, What is the CP doing for you? and why did the Tonalin not agree with you? I have a bottle of CP at home that I recently got and havne't started taking it yet.

    I tried it but it gives me this "icky" feeling that Tonalin doesn't. I wonder if anyone else finds chromium picolinate unpalatable also.

    I like Tonalin so far. I've tried the chromium picolinate when my sugar was a bit high (bad sweet tooth). I didn't see a fat loss benefit though.

    Can you take chromium pic. AND tonalin CLA simultaneously? What effect would that have--would it be toxic, or increase your results...or not do anything different than if you'd only taken one or the other?

    ^ CP helps control blood sugar level.... it is neither a fat burner, nor, like Tonalin/CLA, does it "seal off the fat cells" so fats can't be absorbed. Therefore, it is useful in a controlled-sugar diet, for a diabetic, or for someone looking to cut carbs/starches/sugars and having a tough time. Any "weight loss" is more attributable to better regulated blood sugar...

    ^^Yeup. I'm a carboholic *stands up and coughs*. I'm really bad when it comes to sweets and carby things. So it helps me alot to control them and blood sugar spiking. However I did eat really bad last week and still lost a bit of weight. odd.

    I'm still wondering if the double dosage would be bad long term.

    Few serious adverse effects have been associated with excess intake of chromium from food, which is why the Institute of Medicine declined to establish a tolerable upper intake level when it set minimum requirements for chromium. Animal studies have found that supplemented chromium chloride and picolinate are non-toxic, though it does accumulate in the liver and kidney.17 One human case study, however, reported that a woman who took 1,200-2,400mcg/day chromium picolinate for five months developed serious renal impairment.18

    Its toxicity and metabolic function at doses exceeding 2,000mcg/day is presently unknown. And not enough research has been done on toxic build-up of some of the metallic minerals, including chromium, in the body, especially when their bioavailability has been enhanced, as is the case with most forms other than chromium chloride.

    Animal studies have concluded that vitamin C enhances chromium absorption.19 Other animal studies have found that amino acids double the absorption of chromium.20 As might be expected, antacids have been found to reduce chromium absorption and retention in rats.21

    The future of chromium lies in research at laboratories and in clinical settings, as well as in government houses. Already, new research at Oxford University found that chromium may have antidepressant properties by increasing the availability of tryptophan for brain serotonin synthesis in rats.22

    Additional research is still needed to conclusively determine the safety and toxicity of chromium—especially in regards to the many forms of the trace mineral and particularly in relation to optimal doses for various conditions. As food formulators begin incorporating chromium into meal replacement bars and specialty beverages, more research is needed into dietary factors that affect chromium absorption. Also, as might be expected in people with insulin resistance who attempt to treat themselves with functional foods, research is needed to determine chromium's efficacy with sporadic use.//

    GNC sells an 800 mcg dose. I don't think they'd sell a toxic dose... I'd try 600 and see. Just remember that chromium works better for people who really ARE obese... and less so for people who don't require as much insulin regulation.

    I went out and got some of this stuff the other day. Since I eat VERY few carbs (no bread or pasta here!), will it do anything for me?

    Yea. I started out drastically lowering my carbs. It also helps in stabilizing your blood sugar levels and build lean body mass. I've been on this for over a month and still taking 800mcg.
