    Default Acrylic nails

How much do you spend on them?

    Are they worth it?

I'm a compulsive biter, and have no plans on changing this anytime soon. I don't dig press-on nails either too much work and then they pop off.

What's a good price and how often do you get them done?

    Thanks

$55 for full set, $35 for fills (I go every 2 weeks but could stretch it to 3)

I love them. Not only are they pretty, my hour and 45 minutes with my tech is way cheaper and more helpful than therapy.

I also get the gel coating and it's so amazing. They stay strong and shiny - they always look like I just got them done.

i love mine! i just think they look classier and nicer overall. i dont even remember how much they cost to get put on, because i usually get my eyebrows and a pedicure at the same time. but a fill in of my pink & whites is $25, i think. and i get gel, too. just be careful if you tan and have the gel on top, make sure to buy some uv topcoat and always wipe your nails if you use tanning lotion, or else they get yellow-y.

Iget the pink and white acrylics with a gel coat on top...it comes to $45.( not including tip)

Totally worth it...and I am a biter as well. My fakes last about 5 days before they need filled, because the second they grow out, I start to bite them and cause chipping....

I don't keep up with them tho, because that can get expensive when they need filled so often.

about 25$$ for a full set of white tips for me, but I only do them for special occasions. I grow my naturals out a tiny bit to have a little tip, and the acrylics tear up your naturals underneath (they buff them so thin!)

get solar if you want the nails to not yellow at all... if you have paint over them, it won't matter but if you want white tips it's worth it.

    Thanks for your responses.

And excuse my ignorance...but when you say "a set of tips" do you mean they just put...tips...on the top edge of your natural nails? or what? I know about full nails and rebases...and don't know if tips are different.

    Thanks everyone

They put a tip on your nail of the colour you want, usually white or pink, and then cover with acrylic. Over time they replace it different ways. Either by shaving and filling, airbrushing or paint.. depends on the artist. I just get them short and dark purple now, but it's worth it.

For fall, short dark or pinky beige nails are really in style. Stick with your natural ones.

I was a nail virgin untill June of thi syear. It hurt like hell to get them, and it hurt like hell to get them filled. Whenever I tried to pop a zit, it left a much bigger and nastier spot than usual, and then I break out all around that area in more zits too. And when they grow a bit, taking contacts out becomes a bitch. I ended up using the corner of my thumb and every finger poking my eye before I decided the upkeep just wasn't worth it, and I cut the ends all off myself, and bit off the lifting part.

I just ordered Avons nail length and strangthener that I read aboput on MUA, so I'll let everone know how it works out. It got really good revies over there.

^ You have to use your eyelid itself to remove contacts when you have acrylics.

I get white tips( french manicure that doesnt wear off because the tip is actually white not just painted on)
I pay $25 for a full set, $13 for a fill. I get them filled about every 3 weeks, and completely new sets put on after every 3-4 fills.

If I dont have them..I bite my nails BAD...until they bleed. ABout once a year I try to go natural..it lasts for a month or so then I have to get acrylics again because my hands look like they've been through a shredder

I rarely have my nails done - but the timesI did, I found that they were the only thing, ever in my life (including gloves, tape, elastics, foul tasting nail gunk) that stopped me from biting my nails and cuticles. My normal nails are so weak that the fake one's were way stronger. It does depend on who is doing it though - I went to one place and they stayed put until I removed them. Another and they started popping off as soon as a used my hands for anything (like turning on a tap).

I took my nails off after going to Europe for a month and a half.
I got two caught in a bathroom stall door that someone else was closing.

Crushed 2 of my nails and was in some pain. I had to take off my fake nails because it was making the pressure worse.

I have had them off for 4 months or so now and wont look back. My nails are healthy enough to grow long. I still get manicures and get my french tip done but if i dont feel like paying 30 bucks i can just do them myself.

If your nails aren't healthy enough to grow on their own, get them done. Otherwise it is too much of a pain in the butt.

The gel is SOOOO much better than acrylic IMO. I spend about 50$ on my manicures and pedicures together, and it is worth it because my nails always look good and it's nice pampering yourself once a week.

Because of this thread, I got my regular acrylics pulled off and pink and whites with gel coating put on...and I love them! it was $50 including the removal of my old nails.

I still don't get how they do a pink and white fill. I asked the nail tech but I couldn't understand him that well. He said that I could come in and get just the pink filled too if I wanted. Is that the price of a regular fill?

It costs a bit more and depends on how they do it. They can shave back and completely redo the tip or just airbrush it. I pay extra for the shave back.

i've never had acrylics and part of me really wants to try it. i'm not a biter or anything, i just love how they look, and i'm curious to see if they'd effect my earnings.

how long does it take to get used to dressing/undressing with them?

they don't affect my earnings at all, but I like them and guys do notice.

I haven't really noticed that getting dressed is that hard, but mine aren't crazy long. My hardest tasks are putting a harness on the dog and wiping my ass.

Oh, and I spend about $30 for a full set, $15-$20 for fills, depending on how long I have them.

same here, but I dread getting fills, especially if its not at the same shop that did the previous service.
They always give you the 3rd degree about where you went, and tell you their product sucks, yadda yadda.

pricing depends on the place. mine is the same price whether i just fill the pink or both. i usually get the white filled like every other fill. when they do just the pink, its like a normal fill, and when they do the white too, they just do it exactly how they did it when they put it on.

well, that doesn't seem fair to charge you a pink and white fill price if they aren't doing the white!
