    Default DIY Stripper Pole?

Has anyone had any luck constructing their own stripper pole? A few threads have referred to it, but I couldn't find any of the outcomes. Specifically I'm looking at this site for instructions...

    http://www.instructables.com/id/E8LWXQMXGSEQHOADSX/

Since I don't think my schedule can accommodate dancing for a while, I'm hoping this will help curb my stripping appetite. And when I AM ready to make my debut, I'll hopefully have some snazzy pole moves in my repertoire.

So...does the DIY pole look safe enough? Or should I hold out until I have enough money for a manufactured one?

Honestly you can get the manufacturered ones relatively cheap nowdays I would not risk using one that I made myself.

But I do know of a few girls who have bought a length of steel pipe and made one from it. Then they bought the screw in parts from the pole manufacturers.

I think Djoser made his own one.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

^^ Nah, they aren't so expensive that I couldn't afford one, but I'd still much rather spend $60 than $200 if the safety level is around the same.

Safety? Yes it looks perfectly safe.

But usefulness as a real stripper pole? I'm not sure. It depends on what you want out of it. If you just want to practice your dancing, it will be wonderful. If you really want to do pole tricks, I don't think it will work that well.

What you can't tell as an outsider is that the pole material is very important for grip. There is a huge difference in using polished brass vs polished steel poles, even.

Point here is that I don't know what is going to happen to the grip on that pole in the instructions after all the primer and paint is on it. It could be too slippery, it could be too grippy, the paint could come right off the second you do a spin. I don't know.

Don't not paint it either though. I danced on a DIY pole that was just plain galvanized steel no paint, and I had nasty pole burn for days.

I didn't even think of that. Ouch...pole burn....owwww. Well the bf is all gung-ho about building a stripper pole now, so I'll let him have his fun. I don't think I'll use it for much though; probably just to prance around to entertain him. I'll start putting some money away to get me a real pole though.

I'm sure there is a machinist listed in your yellow pages who would just loooooove to cut you a brass pole to your specifications.

Yep, and it cost me about 15$, lol!

Yes, the pole I have (definitely the DIY variety!) is actually just a plain steel electrical conduit pipe, and it's slippery as hell. Worse even than stainless steel. I was afraid to try anything serious on it for quite some time, and what I did try was really hard to do--I felt like a goddamned newbie all over again. but I was also worried about the stability, which kept me from going all-out on it at first.

But as time went on, I got better at it and bolder as well, until I was basically doing the same thing I would on brass. And the benefit was, when I tried the same thing on brass--WOW, what a difference--it was way easier!! I felt a lot more control.

Here is a link to the thread that shows pictures of the way I did it. I didn't show the bottom part, which if anything is much more half-assed than the tied-to-the-beam method at the top, and a lot looser. It's just a few PVC plastic molded pieces, one of which I have been told is part of toilet plumbing somehow (LOL), and nothing is bolted down. It slides across the floor, but only if I push on it a certain way, and not really when I do the tricks.

As you can see here, though, the damned thing is pretty stable--especially considering the price, lol!

In the second picture you can see the tying method I used pretty well. Someday soon I will probably get the brass, or the portable pole that comes in varying lengths of stainless steel. Both of which are appealing for different reasons. But what's the hurry, I have something that works, is physically challenging, and doesn't look ugly, either...

I made one of those following the instructions off that site, it's really easy but I suggest getting the pole plated or powder coated before installing it.

It might end up to be around the same price as a real pole after you do all that though.

My husband made one for me. He went to Home Depot, bought a length of electrical conduit pipe, and some fittings for the ceiling and floor. He used a hacksaw to cut the pipe the exact length between the fittings. Then he slid the fittings into the pole, wedged it in between the ceiling and floor (it's very tight) and bolted 4 screws into the floor, and 2 bolts into a stud in the ceiling. He was going to drill holes through the top and bottom to go into the fittings like an "X" through it, but didn't need to cuz it was so tight. Cost $50, and it's so strong he can run across the room and jump onto the pole. The surface is fine and I like it a lot.
