    Default Tetanus Shot

The Animal Welfare Leage won't allow me to work at their shelter (thus handling cats and dogs, cleaning out cages, etc) until I get a tetanus shot. The last 'shot' of anything I had was Depo (Birth Control) and that was a long time ago now anyway.

    I dispise needles.

    Any stories to tell?

I've been thru all my childhood shots so shouldn't I be immunised for life? Otherwise, I'm not looking forward to this... not at all.

Tetanus shots are only good for about five years, and then you need a booster.

They're really not a big deal, at least to me... but needles have never bothered me much. If I remember right the liquid was a bit thick, so it hurt a little, but it was over in a few seconds... and it sure beats getting tetanus.

Yekh is right. As I recall, it's not so much the shot that hurts, it's that the area is very sore afterwards. That's what people talk about when they say Tetanus shots are more painful than others.

Tetanus booster shots are every ten years. Just look away and bite on your thumb or something. Don't look at needle.

i had mine today, as you know dont plan to do anything that requires your arm the day you get it done! it hurts to raise my arm, even to lift it more than a 45 degree angle.

oh, and as for being immunized forever.. im not sure how they do things in australia, but i'm due for a hepatitis A vaccine (ive only had the vaccine for hep b), and there is a new menangitis vaccine, i had an older version that wasnt around for long. plus i got the first hpv shot today. that means i need 2 more

shots of any kind make me throw up or faint. somehow i didnt today but i thought i was going to. last time i was at the dentist for a cavity, when he did the shot of novacaine, i passed out.

    good luck!

Huh. I am very sensitive to needles and the needle itself didn't hurt me. Just the after effects.

I booked it in for 12.45 tomorrow. I don't want to have to call off work (start 7pm).. yet I'm lucky I will be able to get away with not having to use my arm much due to not having to do the stage alot... or at least I will just drown myself with Nurofen or something?

If I get the shot done at 12.45pm (just after mid-day)... will it hurt to drive? I have to drive.

    Damn.

I just wanted it sooner than later so I could start at the shelter this weekend.

It's not the end-all of arm killing. It's just a sore shot that hurts a bit like a bug bite for a few days.

Gosh your my no1 blog reader you should know Im the anti-vaccination queen. I can give you links to tons of stories and studies.

    Heres some:

Bottom line is that its your body and you have the last word as to what goes into it or not. Im not sure about this as I have never worked forthe AWL, but there should be and could well be grounds for you to refuse the shot as a conscientious objector. I believe its still law in Australia.

I suggest contacting the Australian Vaccination Network for advice and information if you really dont want the shot. They are a fabulous bunch of people - pro vaccine choice, not anti-vaccination (-:

And no - childhood shots do not last a lifetime.

It leaves you with a little sore spot, it's no big deal.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the sore arm. I had a tetanus shot back in February and my arm was pretty sore for a couple of days... must not have been too bad though, because I completely forgot until y'all mentioned it. I could still drive and do my daily stuff, but I wouldn't have wanted to try pole dancing with an arm that sore. Moderate activity only for a few days.

    I know I know LucyBlue

Just that I really really want to start work at the AWL and this is the one thing that I required before they would allow me to start work there. I've been jabbed with plenty of needles for this and that in my lifetime ... and thus I figured just one more wouldn't kill me. Hopefully.

My arm is feeling fine at the moment. Yet.. I hope it doesn't hurt lateron or anything. I still need to drive as I have errands to run.

Granted, I got a doctor's note for it just in case i had a reaction (and my feeling ill).

For LucyBlue: as per the article about the tetanus shot you referred me to in your post.. it is not like I am having it often. I only am going for it as it has been forever since my last shot for anything of that nature. Way over ten years. It will probably be a further 10 years or so before I get another one if I do. I only got it because i finally needed it otherwise i wouldn't have even thought about getting it.

Okay. I spoke too soon. My arm did hurt when I got in the car to go get Puddy from the vet. Ouch. My arm is more mobile now except the spot where I had the shot is tender. No touching there thank you very much! Oh well.

I'm not working tonight anyway and am glad I am not working. Don't want people touching my arm which they will since customers are allowed to touch the dancers here.
