    Default Can my computer overheat?

My computer, desk and what not are in the back room of the house. This room is not air conditioned but we do let some air in from the other rooms occassionally. It probably stays like 86 back here. The computer fan pretty much runs constantly. Can my computer overheat back here?

Depends on what your doing on the computer as well.

My boyfriend is a serious gamer, with a serious gamer computer....his overheated. The fan just couldn't handle what he was doing on his computer.

We had to buy a water block colant system thingy for him.

I don't play games on it much anymore. I just browse the web and come here mostly. I also type papers for school on it.

yes it can, however, youmay need to crack the case open and clean out dust that has settled in there. That would be the #1 cause of overheating.

it can get damn right nasty in there...

...install HDTUNE (freeware) and watch hard drive temp with a little temperature icon in the tray.

yes and yes. Kept my old computer in a small room, the room would get hot and the computer died (old computer). My cousin left his computer running on vacation in a room and the door got closed, the ac was turned off and the computer overheated.

    Hell ya it can overheat.
You can always crack the case and leave it open if you're worried.

If your system starts acting up (i.E. shuts down by itself, blue screens of death, frozen screens), then it definitely overheats. There are usually two fans in the comp, one for the power supply, and one for the processor, make sure both are spinning fine. Also, a shot of compressed air (Office Depot, $6.00) on the fans and the heatsink of the CPU will remove dust clogs.
