Default Eliminating Underarm Odour Without Deoderant?

    hi there everyone.

so i travel a lot and i spend a lot of time with some pretty dirty people. at this point body odour is pretty much invisible to me. though keep in mind i mean natural healthy body odour, the sort that the body produces even when it is clean and in an ideal world would just be something everybody embraced as one more great part of the human body. the kind of odours produced by sickness or an unhealthy degree of unwashedness are a different story entirely! i do not like those smells. but in any case, i do have a pretty strong underarm odour but it is a "clean odour" in that even when i have washed thoroughly it is still present. personally i kind of like it and so do the sort of people i hang out with (carnival folk, sideshow folk, travellers, crustie punks, and so on) but i know that most people do not and it would definately be an issue later on once i start working.

BUT! but i really do hate the idea of deoderant. there are lots of invasive chemicals in the stuff and regular use of deoderant actually makes the underarm odour worse should a person forget to apply the deoderant one day, due to the addition of foreign chemicals to the natural combination of pheromones and other natural scent contributors. so i would really like to avoid deoderant if i can. now if there is absolutely no way to do so then a really good as-all-natural-as-possible totally scentless deoderant would be ideal. i am thinking rubbing alcohol would work well in a spray bottle because i have used that when giving people foot massages before and the foot odour disappears right away when alcohol is applied, but dancing is athletic and athletics equal sweat which would equal a return of odour. so that would be something that would have to be applied a whole heck of a lot of times in one day!

any suggestions at all? i am probably the only dirty roughie kid on here as far as things like hating certain common products go but any help would be totally great. most people in my world love my natural scent but i also know that most people in my world will not be the people coming into the club. so yeah, any suggestions on alternatives to deoderant or - failing that - really good scentless deoderants that are preferably natural or organic would be super appreciated.

I've heard good things about those giant salt-crystals for underarms.

You can usually pick them up at your local natural food store or co-op.

Lush makes quite a few natural deodorants.

Aromacreme burns if I use it after shaving, so I'd ask for a sample first. I still use it on days I skip shaving, it smells great and makes my sweat smell great too. If I shave and want to use it, I wait a few hours and maybe apply a moisturizer first so it doesn't burn. I really want to try their other deodorants.

If not a crystal, try taking chlorophyll supplements. That should take care of it from the inside out. Good luck!

I looked here and found a list of other natural mixtures:

Copy and paste it (I don't know how to make links)

Rubbing alcohol + alum powder sprinkled on after (it's a rock salt, natural)

That's the basis for all the crystal deodorants anyways

You need to wax or pluck your armpit hair. Odor-causing bacteria sticks to hair, and hair follicles produce oil that the bacteria feeds on. So no hair, less scent.

I use a spray version of the "alum rock" deoderant, it works fine.

tea tree essential works for 1 month. then for some reason it stops.

    the rock really works?

I teach aerobics all day now so this is kind of critical for me. I hate the concet of deodorant w/ all the chemicals too but I still put it on a couple of days a week before another run using essential oils.

to be honest with you ladies, I'm not too sure how well it would hold up under strenuous activities such as cardio or stripping. It's likely you might need to rewash the pits at some point and reapply. I say rewash because apparently the rock does not work if applied over existing odor...I hear it absorbs the odor as well basically rendering the crystal useless. Perhaps a baby wipe would suffice as a quick rewash? (if even needed)

I'd give it a go anyhow. You can pick up the travel size for under $2. And the travel size alone will likely last you over 6 months with regular use.

I use a Thai Salt Crystal deodorant. No aluminum or chemicals, just salt. It doesn't stop you from sweating (which is a healthy way to eliminate toxins from your body and is an important part of your lymphatic system) but simply kills bacteria which cause odor. the deodorant itself is not scented either

alcohol is unkind to self-tanner. it's also very drying.

    try hydrogen peroxide.

most important thing i've noticed...use a clean razor and replace it frequently.

i'd be worried that those natural deodorants would show up under blacklights.

i have heard that you can get your sweat glands removed via plastic surgery. i wonder if that would cure odor too. im one of those people with the bad luck of getting out of the shower and using platinum strength deoderant and i can smell within a couple of hours.

I found that liquid chlorophyll works really well when I've had a stinky meal (garlicky, Indian etc.) but I don't take it all the time. Removing the sweat glands might work for armpits but your body odour/sweat is all over your body.. not just in the pits. A low condiment and chemical diet actually prevents odour, big time.. but it is bland and restrictive and most people are willing to eat that way just for their personal scent. Whatever you end up chosing, remember that pungent/tasty foods will make you smell stronger.
