    Default Emergen-C?

What have been people's experiences with Emergen-C? I just took a packet of the Immune Defense one and now I am experiencing cramping and diarrhea. I'm not necessarily sure that's from the product or my IBS though. Anyone ever have this side effect from it? I know taking large amounts of vitamin B6 can be harmful if you take it long term, but I just plan on taking this to get rid of my cold faster. Is this OK? Is it also safe to take this stuff when you're taking a multivitamin as well?

Thoughts on the product? Experiences? Thanks!

It has a large amount of Vitamin C, that's probably where the cramping and diarrhea are coming from..Once you're body is used to it that will go away.

I have used this stuff almost daily for the last 6 months to flavor my water and give me electrolytes..

I use the "Joint Formula" and my nails grew quick and strong. Plus it's yummy.

The high dosage of Vit C is causing the stomach "problem." It'll subside. It's just a little detox you're going through.

So how long will it take for my system to get used to it? Because for one, um, my ass is sore, and for two it says take 2 packets a day, which means I have to take another before work tomorrow.

    (I've taken one so far)

And why exactly does VitC cause me to "detox"?

Vitamin C cleans out the system and helps it repair . I take it to heal my lungs from all the pollutants in the air and to keep my skin firm/toned.
I think you should mix it with a large bottle of water ( 1.5 liters) and drink it over time to prevent this from happening to you again.

Are you pooping phelm or foods ?

Honestly? I have no idea. Maybe both? It's pretty liquid-y, but in the beginning I felt parts that were probably food bits. I have been in the bathroom about 5-6 times now and it finally slowed down. Maybe because I might not have anything left to come out for time being. My stomach is a little queasy though.

I usually take two bottles of water to work with me. The box says to take two packets a day. Should I just put on packet in one bottle, finish it, then put another one in the second? Or should I space it out?

    (what a lovely convo, eh?)

I'd say ramp your way up to two packets a day. Don't take a full packet all at once yet. It takes a lot of vitamin C to bother my GI tract (or as one of my friends says "give me monkey butt"), but with IBS, you'll be a lot more sensitive.

Generally speaking, you want to space your vitamin C dosage out. If you're taking a big dose all at once, most of it gets excreted by your kidneys fairly soon after it gets absorbed (your kidneys try to keep everything in homeostasis). When the dose is more spread out, it does more good.

Just wanted to chime in to rave about this product.

I usually mix it with a single-serving bottle of cranberry juice (I know, even more Vit C), and it does wonders for when I feel a cold coming on.

I'm over (cough) 150lbs though, so maybe that's why it doesn't upset my stomach/bowels etc.

Don't feel embarrassed or anything Jayda, I'm over 150 too My cold seems to be less severe since I woke up. Maybe I'll just get a big bottle of water and put one packet in there and see what happens.

    Hope you feel better babe.

Oh no, I wasn't saying that in an embarrassed way, I'm 5'10", was just mentioning it because I think having more "body" sometimes means I react to meds/foods etc. differently than a smaller person.

For example, I need stronger birth control than a 110lb female.

I'm about 170, I know what you mean. And embarrassed wasn't the right word, but I thought you'd know what I meant anyways. Thanks.

Well I take that back. It's not liquid like it was, but still just a bit of diarrhea. But can deal with this.
