    Default So Pissed, Good Riddance

So if you've figured out who I am by now, you might remember that I work as a driver for a catering restaurant. I just have to rant here because I am so pissed I'm seeing red, and I need to vent it out. Perhaps writing it out will be cathartic.

So today I had two caterings, so I took them together to make one trip. I dropped the first order off and when I got back to my car there was a message from work saying I forgot a sandwich tray. So I called and tell my manager, we'll call her "S", that I am on my way back to work to get them. It may have made me about 5-10 minutes late to the catering, no biggie. S informs me that without even asking if I wanted her to, she has taken it upon herself to send another driver out with the tray to meet me. Fine, a little irked but fine.

I get there just as the other driver arrives. She drops off the tray and leaves, end of story. I set up the catering, settle the bill, and come back to the restaurant.

S asks how it was and how much they tipped. I say fine, they tipped me $40 on an $180 order. She says I should kick some of that back to the other driver for "saving my ass" (notice I didn't ask for any ass saving?). But I say sure and get ready to take out another delivery. While I'm getting drinks for it S comes over to me and says "you agree right?" and I said yes, that I was deciding how much to give the other driver. S says to give her $15. I kind of look at her and she goes "that's fair". I look at her and say "Um...." she says "Oh you didn't have much of a setup anyways" and I said "Um, yes I did...." and leave to take my next delivery.

So I come back and she snottily says "Why don't you hand over your bank". I had only been there 2 hours! I say fine and hand it over and go to the kitchen to do some prep work. She comes back with my tips 5 minutes later and says she needs to speak with me.

She hands the money over and says "Here's all of your money, I think you're done" and then starts to talk again, getting ready to fire me. I says "That's Ok, I quit. Thank you." and walk out. I'd rather quit than let her fire me over this bullshit.

    Here's my problem with this:

    - Cuts my day because she didn't like that I didn't agree with her "fairness".

-Tries to either force me to spend MY money HER way or it's my job.

Fuck. I don't even get gas compensation likes the rest of this city's delivery drivers do. It's not even full time. We get a $1 a delivery. Big whoop. Now I was going to give the other driver $10. That's 25% when I wasn't required to give her anything. I think that's fair seeing as I didn't ask for the help. I mean, I've ran parts of orders other drivers missed for them and never seen any kick back from their tips, yet all of a sudden I'm supposed to give another driver almost half of my tips because she dropped a tray off and didn't have to set it up? WTF????

So now I have 3 weeks until I move and bills to pay. I will have no moving money. Blah. It's not fucking right. It all comes down to favorites. I busted my ass for that job, but I was never going to have the same rights as S's favorite drivers

You've complained a few times about this place. Sounds like you're better off without them. Plus..now you'll have a little extra time to spend with your man...wasnt he a bit upset about not seeing you? So maybe it's better off all around!
I know you need money though....can you dance just for a night or two? You'd prob make all you need and then some, AND have time for him.

I really can't dance Cam, it's a promise I made to myself and my hubby. He's so wound up, plus we're both sick, I don't need to stress him like that. I totally hate my body right now, gained weight, and wouldn't really inspire many guys to spend on me.

I don't know what to do for 3 weeks.... I can't get a paycheck in time for me to need it anyways. Who's going to hire me for 3 weeks? Even temps pay like biweekly, etc so that wouldn't help.

We were planning on having a huge garage sale to sell everything off anyways as we won't have any way to get it up to Cali, so I'll just focus on that I suppose. Dancing in this city isn't even worth it right now, especially with me being sick. I know I could probably get a cocktailing job at one of the SCs, but who's going to want to train me only for me to leave in 3 weeks?

So dont tell them you are leaving. Waitresses come and go all the time...plus you arent planning on going back so what do you care if you burn the bridge by ditching after a few weeks? Do what you need to do for YOU.

Although I do think that just doin the garage sale will be better for you. Being sick and under as much stress as you have been..a bit of a forced vacation will probably do you a world of good.

That's what I'm thinking. I have been working the past 3 days with chills, fever, etc., basically dog sick. I need to recuperate. Hopefully hubby's mom can help us out in a big way when she comes down next month to help us move.

i just dont see why you cant take a week to get better and then dance for a weekend. if you really need money *that* bad, that would give you the opportunity to recuperate and then make what you need.

    Because:

"it's a promise I made to myself and my hubby. He's so wound up, plus we're both sick, I don't need to stress him like that."

"I totally hate my body right now, gained weight, and wouldn't really inspire many guys to spend on me"

I have asked him that actually. He said he'd rather figure it out himself that me go out and dance again. And for me, it's just as well because of my extreme body issues right now. I swear I'd be like:

"OMG. I'm jiggling. Don't look at me motherfucker! Don't touch the fat!" to some random poor custy who happened to be there at the wrong time.

i'm so sorry about the catering incident... and the $$$.... that's hard. can you re-examine your moving budget and try to cut down on costs??? i WISH cali wasn't so damn expensive, either...

(welcome back, btw... good to see you.)

After paying the phone bill, the sewer bill, the internet bill (yes I need this so R can look for jobs), car insurance bill, and money to R to get his account out of the negative so they don't close it on him, I will have no money to "budget". Well, maybe $50. And that's not accounting for gas, food, etc. I'm fucked. But I'd rather have my resume say "quit" instead of "fired".

I get the feeling that you're making life a little hard for yourself and unintentionally restricting your options:

    1. Are you moving far away from your current location? If not look for more steady employment there now - it could either be you or your hubby.
    2. Take a day or two to sit and think what are your real options. In the UK temporary office work gets you weekly pay at a good rate. Is that available in the US?
    3. Are you able to postpone your move until circumstances improve a little, like yourself and your hubby being well again to take on the challenges ahead?
    4. If you're earning below a certain amount, can the state cover a portion of your moving costs either as a loan or payment?

So many avenues to investigate. You're not the first person ever to be in this situation!

I don't mean to butt in or anything but I just wanted to tell you the garage sale is a great idea! I have had a few myself and I made almost $2000.00 on 1 weekend. Now I had a few pieces of furniture, a couch, recliner chair and a table and chair set all in excellent condition and then a ton of other crap kitchen stuff, clothes you know the usual crap anyway I really needed to make a lot of money for moving to, and I did. I'm sure you will be able to make what you need. If all else fails I know you said you didn't think anyone else would hire you for only 3 weeks, but you don't have to tell them its only for 3 weeks, when it gets to a couple days before you have to go come up with some type of an emergency that you have to deal with immediately. they'll never know. I know it's not completely honest but sometimes you have to do what is necessary to survive. The law of the jungle for a female is You have the god given right to protect your life and the life of your offspring and partner. You wouldn't be hurting anyone and you would be solving your problem just in case of bad weather or something and you have a problem having the sale. Just something to think about.

And S should pay it herself if she feels that strongly about it. I have worked for a catering company before I've been a server a bartender to and I swear people in the restaurant industry are more backstabbing, 2 faced jerk-offs then anyone in any club I have ever worked at. And when you look at it like that it could make it easier for you to get that job for 3 weeks! That it!

    1. Yes. I currently live in Southern Arizona and I am moving to Northern California. So yes it is far.

    2. Like I said, I've done temp work before, it's all biweekly here.

    3. No unfortunately I can't postpone. This is actually a forced move. Our house is being foreclosed on next month, so we're moving up to NorCal to stay with R's mom for free while he continues to look for work.

    4. I don't believe so.

Well, you guys might be right. Maybe if I'm not feeling completely run over sideways I'll pretty myself up and go apply to the SC tonight. I applied like a month ago and they called me back, but I realized I wouldn't of had the time to do it with the other job.

As sucky as it is, getting fired may have been better..at least you would have been able to collect unemployment.
The company hubby worked for fired him when they found put we were moving. He collected unemployment while packing and looking for a new job here. Worked out pretty well!
Since she technically was going to fire you anyway..maybe you can still collect?

um, you can collect unemployment whether you quit or are fired. it is pretty case-specific (and state-specific). i had a dispute with one temp agency over whether i was fired, quit or laid off-- and i ended up getting my full unemployment.

it is worth applying for, but she will not see any money for a month, if texas is representative (took a couple weeks to process/resolve disputes (if any), another couple of weeks to send out paperwork and then finally checks started arriving).

Its worth a shot anyway..worst they can do is say no.
I kow hubby started getting checks pretty quickly, so I guess it varies from state to state. The fired vs quit prob varies too since I know that was an issue up north.

Unemployment in AZ takes forever to collect, and I need the money now. I guess I'll just focus on this yard sale.

Oh joy. Now my bank has had to place a 10 day hold on my last paycheck because there's problems with the check. I don't need this!!!!
