    Default I Made A Dress!!

O.K. Guys. I saw this pretty blue fabric in the fabric store that made me buy it. So this is my very first attempt at making stripper clothing... How did I do?? I've never made anything without using a pattern before and for this I kinda was wingin it. I can't figure out how to get trid of the pucker in the back... do you think it matters? Any tips from our expert seamstresses out there??

Please excuse the face, I'm not made up and have some horrible expression:

    I LOVE that color!
I didn't see a big pucker in the back really, but that might just be because the pics are hard to see on my comp.
I don't know if I like the thong showing in the front though. It looks akward to me when the dress is so long in the back and real short in the front. I would have just left the whole dress long, with a long slit in the side or something. The shortness in the front takes away from the elegance of the dress, IMO. But, I love that fabric!

As it being your first stripper dress, I think it looks great! I do have a few suggestions:

    1) clean up the seams on the opening of the dress. Looks like you just literally cut the split open

    2) Make a matching thong PLEASE!

^ Yeah, it might be the mis-matching thong that threw me off.

Cute!!! I have a piece of "prairie rose" sheer fabric that I'll do up like this. Thanks for the inspiration.

That color is very pretty and looks good on your skin tone. I personally would bring the seam either down or up a bit more... but that's just my HO! I bet it'll look good under the stage light!

    Ilove the color.

But don't make the slit too high. imo it's too high. but then again maybe I'm use to working in a gown club that has strict policies on the slit.

I just think that gowns ,should have slits but still leave it looking elegant .

    Matching thong I do agree.

but wow great job on your first attempt! shit I know I couldn't do it!

Very well done for a first attempt! I think the slit is too high. If you're going for a very high slit, I'd suggest keeping it going up to under the bustline, to make more of a robe-style dress. I have a few of those and they're fun. Otherwise, I'd close it up to well under the thong area.

I actually did try to put darts in the sides to get rid of the puckering, it helped a bit but did not entirely fix it. I agree that the black thong looks out of place. I guess a matching thong is going to be my next attempt! The reason I left the slit so high is because I didn't want the fabric to pull tight across my lower stomach and highlight the pooch I have there and I do like the look of a robe. I guess I tried to do 2 things with one dress and it doesn't quite work. I think I'll bring the slit down to upper thigh and then try to make another dress in the same fabric with the robe style, that way I can wear either style as I feel like it. I also still have to finish the hem along the slit, I didn't finish it b/c I wasn't sure if I wanted to bring the slit up or down. Thanks for the feedback ladies!!

^ I think you were right to slit it up that high to prevent tightness on the tummy; I myself don't think it looks weird at all, and I'd leave it. Maybe make the slit a bit higher like Paige suggested, if it feels weird to you.

Matching thong, yes, you must. They're pretty easy, I think I could even describe how to do it in writing if you need help.

    Great job, though!

try the slit on the side or putting 2 high slits on both sides. that would look much hotter than one in the front. and matching panties are a must, or even white ones.

I like the unmatching panties... but wear the same c olor panties and garter, and maybe eye makeup, so it goes.

i think that makes it pop. ^

and to make it puker less in the back, make it more hourglass shaped (just the back panal. that should do it.

Scarlett: A simple thong how-to would be excellent! I'm kinda just staring at this little piece of fagric with a big "?" over my head. Do I need elastic from the fabric store or can I just use the blue fabric??

I totally agree. I think it would be much more cute if it had a slit up the side or both sides..... I don't like the front opening to be totally honest with you.

That said, good job making something I couldn't even thread a needle if I had to

I really like the slit in the front and think it looks great the way it is, I think guys will go wild for it too. I would def do a matching thong, or wear white though.

Did you just sew one big peice together? It looks like it's a rectangular piece that you stitched up the middle and left it open where you did because it wasn't enough to comfortably fit around the hips. I would go back and get more fabric and redo it with seams down the sides allowing for curves and then if you still want room for your "pooch" you could put slits. That would look nicer. The reason there is extra fabric is because it doesn't fit your curves. A seam down the back would help but it would be best to redo it with the seams down the sides and then depending on how the fabric stretches you might still want to put seaming down the back. It also flattens the bust a bit, it looks too tight across. I think a matching thong would be nice as well.

    Congrats on your first!

on the back...i think princess darts on the back would help a lot.

but i think it would look really good and eliminate tummy pooch tightness if you added keyholes on the sides and have two side slits as a continuations of the keyholes, instead of in front, with something holding the front and back of the dress together around the hips. metal hoops might look good.

Nice!!! I just agree with the others. Matching thong, and that the slit is too high. But its not like you cant fix that.

    Nice job though!
