I love mine. I clean it out about once a week. It has saved my tiny apartment from stink.
I have always been interested in the catgenie...

but I am currently scooping by hand too.

wow. the catgenie sounds great. the site says that the EPA recommends flushing cat waste yet when i was in college i took oceanography and it was mentioned that cat crap in water hurts otters or something like that. other than that issue, i'm completely sold on the catgenie.
I think the cat genie is cool, but I'll wait until I get more than one cat to spend that much on a litterbox.
Mine is the kind that uses clumping litter but scoops itself 10 min after the cat leaves the box. The droppings are emptied when full. Easy.

How does the catgenie start up right after the cat goes? Does it just register the weight and then is triggered to start 10 mins later?

^the site says it has sensors.
my cat has an unlimited feeding schedule because he loses weight easily (see my other whiny post entitled "my cat can crap on command"). his box is very full every other day, so how often would i be taking the waste from the self-cleaning box out to the dumpster?

I have an automatic one and it works great. It's a little noisy and takes up space, but you get used to it and it's worth it.Got it at Petsmart for like 89$.
I love ine, I got it for about 100 bucks, but it was so worth it. I only had to empty it every couple weeks and my cat likes it too, cuz it never gets smelly.
I believe you Dottie and you have my support

I wish I could have one. When my mom was watching them, she had one and it scared my one cat so badly, that he started to pee elsewhere. Once he had the regular one back, he never peed outside of one again.
One of my friends had one and she couldn't live without it. It broke on her one time and the company sent her a new one, no problem.

^the catgenie or another self-cleaning litter box?

Don't buy the Littermaid if you have a big cat! Large cats make large clumps. I can't speak for the other companies, but the Littermaid's motor was too weak to rake my cats' clumps. (I have 2 big toms.)
I can't see myself ever buying a motorized litterbox again. They're hard to clean, they're loud, the cartridges are an extra cost, they have to be placed near an outlet and they're rather large and bulky.

Haha I started talking about the Cat Genie while high last night.
Thank you SW!![]()
Catgenie is really expensive, almost $400. Damn, I don't know if I can justify that...I'm just going to let the kittens poop outside when they get old enough. Problem solved.

The cleaning process takes 30minutes. We have 2 cats, and sometimes they use the potty back to back. His concern is that the cleanign would start up after 1 cat, and freak the next one out, and so they wouldn't want to use it again. I said we can program it to clean, maybe it woudl be best to tell it to clean once a day, and shut the door while it's cleaning.
Well..he don't like the catgenie idea. He's not the one scoopin poop tho. I want it!

We had a Littermaid, years ago. It was awful. The Genie one looks cool, but I agree the price is ridiculous. I have a 12 year old son, he's my automatic litterbox cleaner!
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.
I have one of the littermaid ones ....got it at petsmart for about $120. I loved it at first, but I don't think it's reallywirth it. In fact, I've had mine unplugged for about 4 months and have been back to scooping myself. It's almost less hassle to scoop once or twice a day than to empty that nasty smelly bin 1-2/week.

WE have 2 littermainds and if u keep them clean, they work pretty well. We have 4 cats. WE have 2 different kinds of Littermainds. THe uber plus one - the scooper is metal, its a bigger box and I think it has a stronger motor. We also have the basic model. The uber model works much better. But sometimes the poos will get caught up in the mechanisms so u do have to watch it. U also must keep the waste tray empty. If it fill up on u, u will have a mess.
The tray can be small too. But there is an outfit that sells a table for the littermaid. Using that u replace the tray with a device that u can put trash bags to hold the spent litter. ( http://www.litterworks.com/product_i...products_id=43 )
But u have to get up close and personal with your cats poop. I like the cat genie too but it looks like u have to have a plumber install it to a water and waste lines. Then u have to hold the cats back for a half hour while it cleans the litter.
Heres another automatic box -> http://www.litter-robot.com/default....FSgRGgodW0ezEQ
Ooops scratch what i said about the cat genie plumbing. I see it ties into the water line to your toilet then it runs the waste into the human toilet bowl. Someone spent a lot of time thinking of cat poo to come up with that....
ONe prob tho is u have to buy the supplies that breaks the waste down before it goes to your toilet. And its 400 bucks too.. Im sure these cats are worth it --- right?![]()
I had one of those auto-cat poop dispenser mechanisms. It was pretty cool for awhile. The cat would go in it and do her business, then a few minutes later the machine would turn on and scrape through, picking up clumps then roll it over into this plastic collection bin. What is funny is that when it turned on, the cat would always run close to it and hide behind something and watched as it did its thing. Then the cat would go up to it and check it out. Mine lasted for a year or two, but I guess the motor ran hot or something. Now I use a closed in kitty box with those crystals. It does a good job

I had one a few years back and thought it sucked. What a waste of money it was for me. I now use the all crystal kind of litter and think it the best thing since sliced bread.
Bump!
There are so many choices now, and I am not sure which auto-cat box to get. I don't know if I can justify $400 for a catgenie, but there are other options:
Litter Robot
Litter Maid Elite
Omega Paw
Litter Works
Scoop Free
Here is a site that is totally dedicated to auto litter cleaners:
http://www.litterboxesandmore.com/
There are so many options? Should I spring for a $300 litterrobot, or just a box with a little tray underneath? Feedback? Advice?
