Valet's can make pretty decent money. The base pay is min. wage, they work for tips..which will depend on the casino he's at....it could be as low as $75 a night in tips...to several hundred. Just depends on the casino really.
Have to have a clean driving record and be able to drive a manual. For the large casinos where the money is...he would have to be very lucky to get hired there with no previous experience, and will probably have to start at a smalelr, off strip casinoa dn work his way up. Keep in mind...valet's at places liek Bellagio or Caesars are parkign Ferraris and Lamborginis, so they want to make sure your experienced with the job.
Card edalers make good money, that's what my boyfriend does. Base pay is min. wage usually. You'll have to go to school for it...abotu 2 weeks, and then "break in" at a small, crappy casino. Pay is about $30,000 a year to start at thoes crappy casinos....you have to work your way up to the nice casinos, which will take as long as you want it to...if your motivated and a fast learner, you can move up fast. My boyfriend got to the strip in 2 years...but he was a very fast learner, naturally good with cards and customers....customer service is very very big, and you are hired on personality as much as knowledge of the job.
Card dealing school.....my boyfriend paid $400, and he learned blackjack and roulette. All you really need is blackjack, and can learn the rest of the games on the job. The break in house will teach you. Gold Coast is a good place to break in at. The pay is 7.50 an hour, instead of min. wage, btu tips are $30-$90 a night. pretty bad tips. But the casino isn't aweful....good benefits there, and a good place to learn. Just get out as soon as possible. I see so many dealers get "comfortable" at a casino, and never leave, when there are so many betetr jobs....
Rent...depends on the area. You can get a place in the ghetto for $400 a month, but it's ghetto and unsafe.
For a good place, in a good are, expect to pay from $750-$1300.
I have a 2bedroom with an attached garage in a gated community and I pay $1250 a month. But i feel safe..and I have all the great amenites, 2 pools, 2 hottubs, 2 gyms, gated community, 24hour security......
He could also try to valet at one of the strip clubs. I'd think it would be easier to get hired there than at a casino. Fashion Show Mall also has valet. One of my friends made great tips valeting at a mall in Michigan, so Fashion Show is probably great!
I would try searching for valet agencies or companies in Vegas. The company my friend worked for was contracted by the mall for their valet. They also had contracts many other places, so it gave her a lot of options as far as work. Most of the time she would be at the mall, but sometimes they'd get hired for private events and things like that.
Most of the off-strip restaurants have valet too and while they may not be as profitable as valeting at a casino, it would still be good money and a good place to gain experience.
A quick search of "valet" in jobs on craigslist:
Good luck!
ETA: I'd suggest he get a job valeting for a local company a night or two a week before you go to Vegas. The experience will help him get a job at a better location.
