Default Questions about hair extensions? Or products to make curls stay...

OK, so I'm trying to find a style with my hair that will REALLY complete my look and make me money. I was thinking of getting either a blonde, or darker brunette hairpiece. The thing is, my natural hair is a reddish strawberry blonde, and VERY long. I know, pull it back, and all that... But are there any smaller pieces available that can be clipped in to blend it a bit better?

My hair is STICK straight, and won't hold curls from Curling Iron, Rollers, or ANYTHING for longer than a half hour on its own. Most of the hair products I've tried make my scalp break out, and mess up the texture. A girl I carpool with recommended I use a pomade before I set it in rollers, to get it to work right. I'm just concerned about something that won't give me an allergic reaction, and won't make my hair look greasy(I don't sweat, but I DO get a quick buildup of oil around my scalp when I work-within an hour or two, I just want to pull it back so its not noticable...)

Mostly when I dress, I'm somewhere between high glamour(as in 30's sex kitten movie star) and a very retro pinup(fringed lacy 2 pieces). No tropical print bikinis and such... So the curly hair suits it and looks REALLY nice. I just need to find some way to make the style work, whether its by extensions, or finding something that doesnt irritate my scalp to make the curls stay.

I'm not interested in anything permanent, like dying my hair, or getting a perm. I love its natural look and texture and don't want to ruin it.

    Thoughts?

I think you'll definitely need to use rollers rather than a curling iron. Beyond that, I'm clueless. I've had good luck with Bedhead stuff, but my hairs different from yours.

Put a ton of mousse in you hair then put hot rollers in. Take them out after they set and hairspray. That should work.

Thanks! I've used rollers, but it falls out fast. Will try mousse though, what brands do you recommend for sensitive skin/hair?

These type of rollers always lasted a long time in my hair, which doesn't hold curl well.

^^They almost made my hair too curly actually. But they work if you want curly. I prefer a loose curl that's more undone/wavy. I want to order these, I think they will give sexy, loose curls like I want. Plus I think they would be easy to sleep in.

Everyone's hair is different, so you are really going to have to experiment with your hair to see what works best for you. I like to use mousse with these too, I find the cheapo ones to be great for this.

You can get the clip in extensions. You just clip them under your real hair. They don't damage your hair if you use them properly and can be taken out after work. If you hair is too thick to hold curl maybe consider getting it thined out a bit or some layers. Sometimes this will help you to hold curls. You can also use magnetic rollers which can be bought and Sallys. Purchase some setting gel along with them and clips. It'll take a while to dry or you can use a hair dryer to speed the process up. I am attending cosmo school and when we do the magnetic roller sets they produce great results. Use smaller rollers for more curl and larger rollers for more volume. Hope this helps..

    I use these rollers http://www.amazon.com/Babyliss-Pro-I...8245974&sr=1-2
but the revlon ceramic ones work just as good.
Use the smaller rollers to get tighter curls that stay longer.

Let us know how it goes.

Hmmm... I'm using rollers like your second link, LatinaRose... THey ARE comfy to sleep in, but i'm still figuring out how to get the curls to stick for more than an hour.

So next thing to try would be the heat setting ones? Do they damage your hair the way blow drying/hot iron curling does? I only dance 3-4 times a week, but I don't want to be trying to correct the damage the rest of the time.

Any kind of heat or product with alcohol is going to be damaging to your hair. I used the CHI heat protector one day before I put the curlers in, but it made them less curly. I curl my hair 3 days a week but I think it helps my money at work.
When I started working I would make my hair really curly by using lots of mousse.
Now I hairspray and set the rollers. Then I use clip-in wavy extensions so I am using less product, and compensating the curly-ness for length

Biolage mousse for sensitive scalps. It is great for ornery hair.

hot rollers usulay dont get as hot as an iron, they have steam ones at sally beauty that are supposed to be less damaging and last a long time. for product you could try whole foods for a gel or mousse with less chemicals and fragrances.

Here's a dumb sounding question, are there hair extensions that are curly? Or can you like, get them put in with a perm? And that way always have the option to straighten it out.

I have synthetic clip ins that are wavy and always stay that way. Synthetic hair can not be styled with heat ie irons or rollers or even get put in hot water. Natural hair is much more expensive but can be styled just like real hair. Also, I think real hair holds up better and doesn't get friend looking at the ends.

Hmm, I wonder if you can get clip ins with natural hair, but the clip in or sew in kind that stay in awhile. I wouldn't be good at doing it daily.

I've had human hair extensions that were wavy (fusion). They tangled easily, so I only had them once. I just wave my clip in extensions if I want that look now. Clip ins do hold curl/wave/style a lot better than my own hair, maybe you should look into them. After I put in all the clips, I curl the extension with my own hair. The extension holds curl really well and I think it helps to keep my hair in the curl pattern.

My clip in's are wavy/curly-they are Milky Way brand human track hair that I sewed clips onto. I got them at a beauty supply store.

Go to a ghetto beauty supply, not a Sally's. You can totally take them out after work. Tell them you want wavy human hair for clip in extensions and you need to be matched up with a color. 18inch is midback on most people, 22inch is waist length. Don't forget to buy the clips and all you do is sew the track on the clip. That's all been discussed to death on here, do a search for clip in extensions and you'll find all the info you need.

And if you go to Sally's after I told you not, I am going to be upset!! Don't buy hair from there unless you want to get ripped off.

ETA: They always have a couple different grades of hair in the style you want. I suggest you go for something mid-range, not the cheapest, not the most expensive.

^^ She speaks the truth! I had the Sally's ones. Very crap. Tangled up quickly, didn't like to curl, hard to brush and shed all over.

I got mine from a mall hair store, but it was the kind that's full of REAL track hair, braiding hair, etc, not just ponytail extensions. I asked the girls at work where they shopped and they directed me there. There's various kinds of straight/wavy/curly hair, so give yourself sometime to look at them and find which one will look the best.

    EVIL TRIUMPH!

I set my hair, and took it out, and it lasted for 13 hours, and the curls are STILLLLLLLLLLLLLL in!

Loreal paris Mousse, and Gel. Mousse in hair when its wet, then use fabric rollers. Pull rollers out. pat gel into hair.

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!! I looked SOOOOOOOO hot on shift! And got a LOT of compliments!

    YAY!

And best yet, it ate up a lot of the length of my hair so it looked "normal".

Not like distinctive waist length hair htat you'd recognize in the grocery store. I feel like it'll give me a touch more anonymity!
