    Default Suvivorman

Anyone watch suvivorman on Discovery channel?

I watch this show...and I was just appalled and shocked at the most recent episode. Les, the suvivorman had a team of sled dogs.....first the dogs got into a fight, and he started kicking them to break the fight up! I was so shocked. He said his rubber boot was like a slap on the wrist and wouldn't hrut them. I doubt that. I've broken up many dog fights in my day, and never, ever needed to kick or harm them. And thoes were fights between chow chows.

Then towards the end of the show, he just set the dogs free. He said they could find their own way back to town. Maybe so, but.....the next day, the conditions got to unsafe for him and a helicopter was sent in to rescue him. The ocean ice was melting and no longer safe to be on...well, if that's the case, isn't it possible the dogs could have fallen through? He set them free still attached to the harnesses and sled. How easy would it be for the chain or sled to get caught on something? Or for the dogs to start fighting again and kill each other? Or just get lost and starve to death?

I was just appalled that he was kicking the dogs. There was no disclaiomer at the end of the show stating " no animals were harmed during the making of this film" there was nothing saying the dogs were found and were safe.

I've checked all over discovery.com and there is no mention of the animals safety. I am justshocked.

I have had to kick apart a couple of my dogs fighting a few years back and I thought that the kick was much less of a mark then the teeth that were about to rip the flesh apart . I didnt enjoy doing it but it was essential . I watched the episode you mentioned and it didn't really bother me because of my previous experience with this .
They don't always show you all the details of the show they may have well been picked up or lead back to safety . These dogs are intended to be used as sled dogs and should be able to find there way home , they live in this environment all the time . As bad as it sounds I think many natives would eat there own dogs if it meant they would survive .

You have to be the Alpha dog to break up the fight.

I think the part were he releases the dogs is staged , well staged beyond stopping to set up an arctic survival shelter. While he goes the whole seven days by himself there is a support crew out there. I doubt that the dogs went far without someone from the support crew picking them up, the dogs and equipment are expensive.

    That's very true....

His support crew is never far away, and he does carry an emergency walkie talkie....

Perhaps I overreacted a little..it's just shocking to see someone actually kick a dog on tv and it be the real thing. After thinkign abou tit...when our dogs would get into fights, my mom would take a broom to seperate the,. Not hittin gthem, just using the broom to get them apart. In the wilderness, you gotta use what you have....

Actually parts of the show have been staged, there was an article where he actually stayed in a motel one or 2 nights, but, they made it seem as though he "roughed-it".

Even more reason not to watch this show. I don't care if it was staged or not (the release of the dogs,) he still kicked them. I'll stick to my Dirty Jobs.

That would be the idiot Bear Grylls from Man vs Wild. Don't do anything that grandstanding idiot ever does. I find myself yelling at the tv when he is on.

I wish I could find that video of people that went out to some of his "locations" and filmed his "stunts" then showed it was literally 100 feet from the highway lol

    with cars going past.

Sucks too my bf was CRUSHED when it was proven all bullshit. he loved that show. Did bear do anything at all for real? and is the show going to be back for another season?

You have tokick them apart those are not pets or house dogs, it is law of the Pack, the strongest leads. Those dogs will maim or kill each other resolving dominance.
again you have to be the alpha dog.
