Post Anyone work for the postal office/UPS/Fed Ex?

Just wondering if you or someone you know works at UPS, postal office, Fed Ex and how is it going for you? Is it hard to get a job with them? Hows the pay? I heard it was "decent pay" but its also hard to get hired with them. Anyone know other jobs (open to all types) that pay at least $18 an hour? Input is greatly appreciated.

Garbage men get paid really good.

Gov't. jobs like postal workers get paid well, good benefits, but you gotta pass the exams and shit. Don't know much bout it.

For $18 an hour and up....with no education or experience, t's gonna be pretty damn hard to find a job.

    Unless your a stripper.

The post office is OK, but they generally only hire once every couple years. they do a mass testing day, where about 300+ people take the first test. (You get assigned a test date about 1-2 months in advance). About 3-4 weeks later, if you've passed the test, you get assigned a date to have something like an orientation, where you basically go to learn more about it and fill out questionnaires, and I believe take test #2. And if you pass all of that, you basically get your name put on a "list" and you agree that you can be called within the next 5 years when they have an opening for the location and position that you picked ahead of time (you select up to three choices). In other words, it's a pain in the ass.

Its even more of a pain in the ass if you're not a veteran.

There is to my knowledge, only one test to take for most PO jobs, but unless you have 10 point veteran status, you have to score exceptionally well on it to be considered for an interview. There are a lot of hoops they make you jump through.

A number of private outfits put on one day seminars where they show you how to pass the postal exam, some of these are okay but others are outright scams, and they charge you for test materials that you can get for free from USPS.

Here's probably everything you need to know about the exam.

I bought a book from Amazon, to pass P.O. test. It helped, but still I only got a 70, just passing grade. I also worked for FedX, they do background testing. The job I had was taking heavy pkgs off a conveyer belt, loading onto appropriate trucks. It was like 9. something an hr. To me it's hard to get a job, period.

A girl that danced with me worked for UPS during the day, she liked it, though she said she didn't like the hours. Two of my cousins worked for UPS while they went to school, since they were apparently pretty flexible with schedules. Actually, come to think of it, quite a few guys I've had classes with have worked for UPS/mailboxes etc/ Fed-ex.

i worked briefly for UPS a few years back. i was a seasonal employee for 2 to 3 months. From what i understand, they do most of th hiring for seasonal and if they liked you you can choose to stay on afterwards. Not many people get chosen to stay though. The pay started at 8.50 per hour (this was a few years back) but if you make it past 90 days it goes up to 9 an hour. After that you get a raise of a dollar a year i beleive. You have to start off loading and unloeading trucks. OT is very hard work and the hours are terrible, like 2 am to 6 am and stuff like that. During my couple months there, i saw several accidents, one of which involved a girl's finger being severed, another was a serious leg injury. Honestly, i would not recommend this job to anyone, unless there was seriously no other choice available.

I once saw UPS recruiting at a music festival where everyone was really trashed. I thought it wasn't right since people didn't know what they were doing. Then I saw the Army Recruitment Stand & thought that was really messed up.
