Angry Rant: Boo, I'm Not A Bank!

I have a "friend" (aka, girl I've known for a quite a few years but I'm not really close to since she's a complete moron and pretty trashy) who pops up randomly to ask to borrow money. Her story is always something like, "I need to borrow x amount of dollars to pay rent or they're going to kick me out!" "I need to borrow x amount of dollars for new brakes or I can't get to work!" "I can't afford internet" "I can't afford electricty"... her latest one is "I need $40 for gas so that I can get to work tomorrow!" Yes, she told me that when I was at work last night. I told her that I got off at 2am, I had class tomorrow, and I was going home. Apparently, she was okay because she's now at work texting and calling about me lending her this "gas money" when she gets off work.

No, I never actually lend her the money. She pops up and is friendly and asks about my life... then maybe two or so days later, she's asking for money. Ugh!

^Yup, I do it all the time. She's not a crazy stalker or anything so there's no reason to change my number and she just pops up again... it's just randomly annoying... and makes me feel bad. Part of me wants to lie and tell her that I'm broke (which we both would know isn't true), just to be a bitch... but that would be stooping down to her level. Another of my friends thinks she just wants drug money. I can't say if that's true or not... but it seems like if you were desperate enough to need gas money, you'd ask for $10 worth of gas... maybe $20... and you wouldn't ask someone whom you rarely talk to.

    I guess it's a typical stripper problem?

if she says she needs 10 bucks for gas, buy her a gas-card or gift card for that amount and then see what happened. technically your giving her money for gas, etc, so there should be no reason why she would be upset with you.

Actually, "B. of B." has a nice ring to it...

You have my empathy, B21. Regretfully, your "friend" resembles certain people that I can actually finish sentences for when they call. I've been quite charitable in the past, so I guess that I deserve the notoriety that comes with being "an easy touch." The 2 common denominators involved when these characters contact me are:

    a) their urgent need for an immediate, term-free cash loan
    b) their profound lack of interest in my personal well-being or situation

Sarcasm is wasted on such people, since their focused state reminds me of Gollum from "Lord Of The Rings".

    LOL!

I've known a few types like this myself. They seem to basically be playing the odds that if they ask enough people for small hand outs here and there a few of these requests will pay off. They seem to have no clue as to the bigger picture the rest of us live in.
