Default telephone surveys, China & US relationship

So, this man calls me during dinner of course and asked me "What is the first thing than comes to mind when you think of China?", I replied, "beautiful women", lol. He laughed then he asked me various questions regarding the relationship between the USA and China and how Americans feel about China, etc. Well, to make a long story short I am pretty liberal and see things open-endedly. I don't think China is a major threat to the US. I don't think America should invade should there be a war between China and Taiwan. I think America's main concerns are the trade and economy as far China goes. Yes, I am more weary of buying goods that are for human consumtion from China. I do believe that our relationship with China has deteroriated. I believe it's mostly our fault.

I was just wondering what other's thoughts might be regarding the issues mentioned. And what do you think about telephone surveys?

One time my friend admitted to conducting fake telephone surveys because he was bored and lonely.

He thought it was interesting to ask questions to complete strangers and hear their uninhibited answers.

"What do you think about the Republican Party?" and just let them cut loose with their opinions.

I don't know how he held himself back from laughing when he asked "a lady who sounded like she was 110 how she felt about gay marrage".

Sounds like fun to me. Where's my phone book?

I think telephone surveys are irritating and I refuse to do them, and I've been known to bitch out the callers when they call my cell phone and waste minutes with that shit. I'm sorry, but they chose to be telephone harassers, so they have to expect that some people are going to be irritable when harassed on the phone. These people invariably call while I'm trying to sleep or eat, so that probably has something to do with it.

As for China... I have long had a keen interest and fascination with China, and am looking forward to finally starting my Chinese language lessons next week. I've been watching Chinese movies and collecting Chinese art since I was a child, and I plan to adopt my daughter from China when I'm ready for motherhood. But I also know full and damn well that the Chinese government is NOT our friend. There is a vast difference between the Chinese people and the Chinese government (which purports to be communist but is in actuality fascist). We cannot trust the Chinese government one whit, but unfortunately they have our economy by the short and curlies and they know it. I don't think war is the answer here but I sure don't know what the answer is.

Screw those commmie bastards. Seriously. China is slowly beating the United States down by waging an economic war against us. I try to buy American made products and avoid Chinese products whenever possible.

It seems that a lot of the US attitude to china is similar to how it was towards Japan in the 70s and 80s. Look what happened... "Jap Crap" no more and they became known for quality and a sturdy economy (notwithstanding how it is right at this second).

I believe China is just freakin' awesome. It will take it a while to shed its "Chinese crap" image but then it will be huge and all-powerful.

Doesn't bother me... I'm prepared to accept that. I have just got my Mandarin language CD. Hot damn that is a hard language. I'm going to need to find myself a language exchange friend around my area to help me out.

I don't want to be behind the 8-ball communication-wise when China rises up and taaaakes overrrrr....

Economies and industries win wars. German technology was superior to everyone else in WWII. The U.S. military was ranked absurdly low in the world from a power standpoint. Our industrial might, however, was unsurpassed. We produced more machine guns in one month of WWII than Japan did in the entire war (kind of handy suckers in a jungle environment, too). German Tiger and King Tiger tanks were massively more powerful than our Shermans, but we produced 10 Shermans to every one tank they could produce. Economies and industry can win a war with inferior technology.

China has the potential to absolutely dominate the world from a production and economic standpoint. They are a future threat becase of the raw potential power they wield. Power that would rival or beat NATO. Right now, China is far too isolationist to care about expanding their influence, but if that were ever to change...look out. China is a future threat in the same way many countries view the U.S. as a threat because in an all-out war, no one country could stop us. Currently, their military is 80% at a WWII era level of technology. Not much of a threat, but they have the people and industrial resources to catch up (they have nuclear weapons and put a man in space...I'd say they have technology).

So while I don't think they have any designs on taking out the U.S., any country with the power to do so would have to be considered a threat, if one had any sense of self-preservation. So I consider them a future threat.

I also think China is a bit of an inigma. They have such beautiful culture (art work, language, clothing, etc), and such brutal culture at the same time (treatment of women, general treatment of the people by an opressive government).

has anyone else read "china inc" ?

btw, i had no idea usa was now wanting to have a war with china- wtf? is your government that freaking trigger happy? they seem to wanna go to war with every nation over almost anything.

sure, i dont like the pollution in china,im a bit of a greeny and try to lower my own carbon footprint etc, but, china is fufilling a market- usa buys these products, they demand lower prices, they in turn MAKE china mass produce items that are harmful to the enviroment with pollution, yet do not pay enough to sort out the problem. if the buyer paid extra money to make sure 1 the living conditions were met for the emplyyees, and 2 the pollutions problem could be lowered by using more expensive cleaner fuels, then there wouldnt be such a huge problem with chinas enviroment.

usa needs to get its head out of its ass and see there are much better imerging markets then itself, and its an empire about to topple with greed.

personally, i cant wait to sit back and watch the rest of the world superceed usa

    Gee thanks...

I never saw anyone say that we were looking for war with China. I believe what was said is that the US and I'm sure other countries are nervous about the potential of China's power if they really set their minds to it. Dangerous power if they really wanted it. At least that's what I read.

    Meet the Varyag.

The first of the currently two Chinese aircraft carriers to challenge the US and Taipei in the future. The wars will be like the others resources. Oil under the south China sea, the gold, uranium, and coal in Siberia, and the open spaces for the growning Chinese populations that is Australia.

This is the federation of American scientists. A nonprofit study group that watches all the worlds Militaries. China is not hopelessly backward and has gone through considerable modernization in recent years.

This is what concerns us most currently. Chinese boomers parked in the Pacific and able to strike all of the continental US.

As Yekhefah said the Chinese government is not our friend. The chinese government is preparing itself to dominate east asia.

Oh yeah China is building one new coal fired power plant per week for the next three years in addition to the hydro power of the three gorges dam project to meet their growing power needs.

Whenever customers at the club ask me what nationality I am and I tell them I'm Chinese, they always say something like, "They're blowing up, you know?" or "They're getting really powerful." I always thought that meant business wise, cause I always meet a lot of people who travel internationally for business.
