Default Midnight Cowboy - yee haw

Has anyone seen this movie? it was made in 1969 and stars Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight (angelina jolies dad)

i must say i am TOTTALY in love with jon voight(well back then in the movie..when he was young, rugged, handsome, charming and damn tall!)

its basically about a HOT texan (jon voight) dishwasher who goes to NYC to try to make some real money out of being a male prositute for old lonely but rich women. he meets dustin hoffman, who at first scams him, but later they become best friends. the "midnight cowboy" finds out how it really is over there...

i have a thing for rugged sweet and tough cowboys i think ill watch thsi movie again just to admire him lol.

    Historically great movie, Windy!

"Midnight Cowboy" won Oscars for , , and . It was X-rated at the time of its original release, and remains the only film to win an Academy Award in any category.

Hoffman and Voight were also nominated for awards...

    Good choice!

One of hubbys fav movies. The hotel Voit walks past when he gets to FL is still here too...in Hollywood. I had lunch on my birthday about a block away from it.

This was one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen.

Great soundtrack but I was not quite right for a few days after seeing it. (I was around for the original release and probably too young to be seeing it)

One of the best movies ever made. Scandalous at the time it was released. The only mainstream Hollywood film to ever get an X rating.

I don't know what it was rated back then. We had a "bootleg" copy and our very own projector in those days. My dad worked for Technicolor in the department where they made the copies for the theaters.

I don't know how you can be aroused by anything in that movie. It's powerful but it took me to a very low, dark place. I saw it in class when I was taking Modern Cinema, and I drove straight home afterward and curled up in a little ball on the couch. I just lay there for hours, snuggling my cat and feeling very cold and sad. It's one of the most upsetting movies I've ever seen and even though it's an excellent film, I'm not really in a hurry to watch it again.

THANK YOU! So I wasn't the only one that was "not right" after seeing it. I'm starting to think that maybe I don't watch movies, I involve myself in them.

I'm the same way. There are certain movies I just can't handle. K bought a copy of Hotel Rwanda after we rented it, and I still don't understand why! It was brilliant, I'm glad I saw it, but I damn sure don't want to watch it again.

    ditto.

Midnight Cowboy was definitely among those for me. Ordinary People was another.

Not a good watch for me, either. Boy sexually abused by female relative.

Great film, agreed on the seeing it once being all that's necessary.

Though it did spawn a great Futurama moment, with Bender and Fry walking the streets all dejected, set to the theme song (still makes me wistful any time I hear it).
"Before I conceived you, I wanted you. Before you were born, I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of life." -- Maureen Hawkins

"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat." -- Anne Lamott

I actually had an opportunity to do a reenactment in New York last summer. I was crossing the street and talking to K as we walked, and a car sped up out of nowhere and almost hit me. Without breaking stride I banged on the hood and yelled in my best Rizzo Ratso, "HEY, I'm WALKIN' heeah!"

Great movie. John Schlesinger directed. He didn't exactly make movies to make you feel good. We got a glimpse of just how good Hoffman could be.

"Unforgiven" directed by and starring Eastwood was another one that I felt was very well done on many levels but so crushingly hopeless that it won't be seen a second time by this household.

Ok, now I officially hate this thread. Not only do I have the soundtrack to Midnight Cowboy in my head, I'm now thinking about other movies that you see, find fantastic, but never want to see again.

Casualties of War comes to mind for me.
