    Default Migraines

Ow. Ok...I was hit by one REALLY bad today. Spent about 1/2 an hour screaming crying wanting to rip my eye out in pain...the pain behind my eye was so bad I swear I felt like my eye was going to explode. I finally took a painkiller and now it's down to a tolerable level. Still painful and I cant bear to open my right eye too much because light really hurts...but I can at least function a bit now.

I remember years ago going to a Dr. for migraines and they tried several meds(I dont remember which ones) and I couldnt take any of them. They made me VIOLENTLY sick within about 10 minutes of taking them. So the medication wouldnt stay in my system long enough to do any good. They went away for awhile...or at least they went down in intensity enough that an Aleve or Advil would take care of it.

Apparently they are now back with a vengence. I will talk to my Dr. next time I see him...but does anyone here suffer from these? What do you do to help the pain?

I'm concerned mostly because it seems to come out of the blue with no warning and brings me to me knees. If this happens at work or something..I'm going to be curled up in a ball on the dressing room floor screaming and crying in pain. I would like to avoid that if possible......

I take Imitrex for mine. It knocks them out within 3-4 hours.

Nothing really works. I just take 2 Excedrin right when it starts, go in a dark quiet room, and put an icepack behind my neck at the base of my skull. This is the best place to put it, not your forehead.

Excedrin Extra Strength is the only thing that works for me. That and drinking lots of water. Sometimes I have gotten them so bad it feels like an ice pick is going into my head. Fortunately that has only happened a few times.

Ok.. I suppose I will just stock up on painkillers at Target until I can talk to my Dr. Its been hours now and, while it is tolerable...my head still hurts and my right eye is extremely sensitive to light.

    This sucks.

The cocktail: 3 ibuprofens & 2 excedrins. Recipe passed down from generations...

Make sure you eat b4 that lol

For real, I used to get asskicking ones alllll the time, so did my mom, this has been the only thing that worked.

Strangely, red wine helps me if I feel one coming on. I know it's the opposite for most ppl, but I think it has some kinda similar effect as caffiene, opening/dialating some part of yr brain or some shit.

I take ibuprofens and tylenol and lock myself in a dark room with a heating pad over my face.

Some people find icepacks on the base of their skull work others find heat on their face helps.

I get at least one a month... I used to get them weekly for days at a time bleh...

Ok I dont have any excedrin, but now i will need to get some. Apparently that works for a lot of people. And I'll stock up on ibuprofens since at the rate I took them today i'll need a lot if these continue.

Hubby freaked out when he saw me writhing and crying(I NEVER cry so he knew it was something REALLY bad) and immediately went and got me a cup of black coffee because the caffeine is supposed to help. It did and he's cute!

When I know i'm about to get one I take an Excedrine, usually helps it stop from happening. And drink pitch black coffee with squeezed lemon in it. Tastes fucking disgusting but it works wonders. If I do get one and nothing is helping, then I just go to the hospital to get an injection.

Do yoga and see a chiropractor for maintenance. I've only had one severe migraine since I started getting regular neck adjustments.

Imitrex just knocks me out, doesn't do much for the pain.

If you go to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care, there is a shot they can give you that stops the stabbing pain in about 15 minutes. I got one back in May when I had that one bad migraine. Doc told me to take 800 mg of ibuprofen 4 times a day after the shot until the headache went away. Yep that would be 3200mg/day (much higher than the RDA)

Imitrex totally works for my pain but you know I never thought about whether it knocks me out or not...I guess because I was already horizontal to begin with! I'm going to pay closer attention next time to see if it makes me drowsy.

I should be going to the chiro anyway for my horribly screwed up spine. I've been lazy and havent been in almost 6 months...I"m supposed to go twice a week. I suppose I should call...

I refuse to go to the ER. I know what it is,I know it will go away eventually, I know it wont kill me. I'd rather deal with the blinding pain then sit for hours in the ER.

The consensus(sp?) seems to be Excedrin(at least until I get to the Dr). I will get some tomorrow. This sucks hard. It's been over 10 hours and it still hurts and my eye is still so sensitive to light I can barely open it. I've never had one this bad that lasted this long. SUCKS.

I'm going to take a sleeping pill and hope that by morning this will be gone.

(edit...I swear I did a search and nothing came up...but I see at the bottom that there are other threads on this. Sorry. The damn search never works for me..I dont know why)

Chiropractic works for me. I rarely get migraines these days because of it. If i do then at least i know its easilly fixed.
Massage of the neck shoulder area can get rid of it too - if I can find someone!
