    Default Dehydration

About how much water do I have to drink to get rehydrated from dehydration, and how long does it usually take for my body to recover and rehydrate?

I have been drinking big glasses of water and peeing every hour because of it, and want to know if that will eventually slow down once my body gets used to having enough water?

you can very literally kill yourself by drinking too much water. i mean, you have to drink ALOT of it, but it happens.

if you're peeing clear, you are hydrated enough. it just takes a bit for you to "feel" better after being dehydrated.

also, you might need some salt. dehydration causes you to lose salt, which your body needs.

I drink Pedialyte or it's generic form when I'm really dehyrated, it's me recover quicker than water alone..Water doesn't have the electrolytes your body needs.

If you're peeing every hour, it is very unlikely that you are dehydrated.

Maybe so. I'm just so used to being dehydrated that I probably just haven't started to feel better yet.

This is very, very rare. You'd have to drink a ton of water IN ONE SITTING to die of water intoxication. Healthy kidneys of an adult can safely process up to 15 liters of water PER DAY. If you drank 3 gallons of water every hour, you could get water intoxication. There is a lady who just died recently after downing way too much water (water drinking contest) within a short span of time. It's very, very rare for a healthy adult to die of water intoxication. One of the other problems with drinking too much water is an imbalance in the body's sodium levels. In fact, you would die from this as opposed to "drinking too much water".

The daily "suggested" water intake is 1/2 your body weight in ounces. So, if you weigh 130 pounds, you should be drinking 65 oz of water PER DAY (not per hour, per day). Of course, you need to find the right amount to drink...you adjust the amount based upon your own body. I should be drinking about 65 oz per day, but because I am breastfeeding, working out, and do a lot of yard work/gardening (and running around after the kids in the hot weather) I drink closer to almost 100 oz per day. You know you are hydrated when your mouth is wet (not that cottony feel), your lips are moist, and your skin looks dewey.

When you feel thirsty...if you get yourself into the habit of drinking water, you'll notice that you feel better much more quickly.

You'll pee a lot now. If you're dehydrated, your body retains water (just like if you are starving yourself). Once you start drinking water, your body will start flushing your system out. You are properly hydrated when the above signs show up. It may still take a couple of days AFTER those signs show up for your urine to go clear. If you keep yourself hydrated, your body will become used to the water intake and adjust accordingly.

Oh, and despite what these new "studies" say...tea, pop, crystal light, etc do NOT count towards your daily water intake. They actually cause your body to work harder, not necessarily cleanse your body. Your cells need a certain amount of hydration in order to carry the nutrients/vitamins/minerals/oxygen/carbon dioxide to where they need to go. Those drinks that are not water are not good for your body. Drink water. Pedialyte/gatorade is good in very small amounts. Water is good always.

Instead of drinking a big glass of water every hour, try spreading it out over the hour, (tedious I know, lol.)
In The Bodies Many Cries For Water it is explained like this. If you pour a glass of water into a pot plant, most of the water will drain away through the hole at the bottom. If you pour a little at a time, the water will absorb into the soil and the plant gets the benefit. The body works in the same way - drink a lot of water in one sitting and you pee it out, drink smaller amounts and the body will utilise it.
