Default i hurt my calf muscle every time i work

i know exactly what im doing when i give a lap dance that makes my left calf hurt, but i cant take that move out of my dances because guys like it! just recently, when i do a lot of dances, my left calf muscle hurts so damn bad the next few days. today it hurt to even walk, i worked last on saturday.

so what can i do? im working tomorrow. and i cant have pain like this after every weekend! especially since in a year, this never happened. so how come it started to all of a sudden?

i put arnica on my leg where it hurts and took 440 mgs of naproxen. (does naproxen make anybody else feel high as a KITE? everything is funny to me right now. my mom has a prescription for 800 mgs though and she says it only makes her tired.) but it still hurts to touch it or totally straighten my leg. i was going to take a hot bath and soak it but the pain meds made me feel so out of it i dont want to.

is there anything else i can do? to prevent it, also?

I just had neuromuscular/deep fasci work done this afternoon.

i'd google to find a similar specialist in your area. The therapist breaks down the adhesions and fascia inconsistencies so that your problem is irradicated(?) eventually.

I dont know what to tell you. I'm the same way with my right shoulder. I aggrivate it every time I work, but I cant manage to work the pole left handed.

And BTW...I'm jealous that naproxen makes you high. I can take a bottle of that stuff with no effect..I'd rather be giggly then in pain. Sucks to have a high tolerance I tell you

    LOL.

Wait till it's healed then go back to work. Stretch, stretch, stretch before and after work. Bananas can help eliminate leg cramps too.

nothing special! just putting that leg in between theirs and rubbing that on them, but sometimes if the guy likes it fast or hard like this guy this weekend, im going up and down on that leg really fast and it just makes it sore. haha it sounds stupid to say it.. its a standard move, but all of a sudden it started hurting me. thats the part i dont get.. for a year it never hurt to do that. but i guess i nevre did it fast before, but my club now thats what these guys like.

i have to work tomorrow. the new rule is if we dont work a mon, tues, or wed, we can only work one weekend day. and with my schedule, the only one of those days i can work is tues. i need to work both fri and sat since those 3 are the only days i can do. plus i missed last tues since my license was suspended because i hadnt gotten my breathalyzer yet.

but bananas, i never knew that! i will eat one with breakfast tomorrow

ive definately been stretching more lately. so i just dont get it! but it is what it is.. im going to soak in the tub for a while and pop another painkiller before bed. hopefully when i wake up it'll be a little better.

Where in the calf is the pain? Athletes eat bananas to prevent leg cramps by replenishing potassium. If your pain is not cramps, the banana won't help. Won't hurt either though

^^^ I was gonna say something to the potassium effect- I take a shitload of stuff for electrolytes- coral calcium and potassium & b vit's. I would try taking a potent Cal/Mag/Zinc/Potassium (you'll have to take a high dosage in order to get your daily %... don't shy away from taking 4 pills or so) and see if this helps w/ cramping/aching. Drink lots of water.

I'll tell you what I tell all my buddies who tell me about their aches/pains....... if some repetitive movement makes something hurt, the only way to make it go away is to stop doing that movement and to rest the area until the pain is completely gone for several weeks. Whether the pain is from a torn muscle, tendonitis, an inflammed nerve, a stress fracture, etc.......... all that stuff needs time to heal. This, I realize, is generally difficult advice to follow because of the need to work. Which is why repetitive stress injuries are such a problem......

I sympathize. My shoulder is all fucked up and rather painful, and I have work the next three days. No pole work for me at the very least.

You're not going to like what I have to say very much, but you do need to rest it, IMHO. I'm a massage therapist by day, and while that doesn't mean I'm qualified to diagnose (even if you were here with me), I'd venture a guess that you've strained it. Whether it's gastroc or soleus, I couldn't tell you, but continuing to use it - well, it's not going to get better. I know it sucks, but if you want it to heal, there IS NO MAGIC TRICK. It needs rest.

There are a few things you can do to manage it, though I'd recommend this for AFTER you rest for a few days. First, though people are well-intentioned about recommending stretching, you need to be very careful about this. Stretching is NOT always the right thing to do. If it's just tight, or cramping, yes, it's great. If it's a pulled muscle, stretching too much too soon? Congratulations, you've just re-torn all the fibers that you were trying to get to heal. Trust me, I've done this enough with my hamstrings to know.

You CAN stretch, but GENTLY, and it's best AFTER you've warmed it up first. In other words, do it at the end of the night or at the end of a workout. Stretching cold muscles is terrible even for healthy tissue. Whe you get to work or to the gym, you can start by doing ankle circles and then gentle heel raises. Get the blood flowing, raise the temperature. You might even want to start with a heat pack.

THEN, and I cannot stress this enough - ICE. Ice after work, ice after the gym. 10-15 minutes on, and then wait at least 10 minutes before icing again if you want to do a repeat. ICE ICE ICE. NOT heat afterwards - it's okay if you're helping yourself warm up, but if you do, it's even more important to take it back down at the end. It's saved me and my clients dozens of times over the years.

Finally, as far as pain management goes, I'd say you're right on about the Naproxen, since it is an anti-inflammatory. You're not JUST masking the pain, you're actually helping it heal. If you switch to anything else, try to stick with another anti-inflammatory, even Advil. But again, I know this isn't fun to hear, but TRY not to take it before you work. Dose up on it afterwards, YES, absolutely, but while you're working? You NEED to know what's going on with your body. Otherwise you'll do too much too soon, and reinjure yourself just when you thought you were getting better, simply because you literally couldn't feel it. Pain is, well, a pain, but we do NEED it. It gives us information.

Sorry to be all soapboxy about it, but this is all exactly what I would tell a client if they came to me with this (and have done so many a time with many a similar injury), and I've had to do this process myself quite a few times. It's a total chore, believe me I know, but if you want to get better, eventually, give it a try if nothing else is working.

I second RoseWhite. This sounds more like a strain or overuse type of injury and you need to rest the leg.

As for potassium...if you are truly potassium depleted, you will have to eat a shitgob of bananas to get you back to normal. Each inch of banana contains only 1 mEq of potassium. Average 6 inch banana = 6 mEq potassium. For people who are low on potassium, I start them on 20 mEq a day. If you like bananas, go ahead and eat the 3-4 a day it will take, but otherwise find a good supplement.

well, you guys are going to tell me its my own fault, but i cant not go to work. like i said, working tonight makes the difference between working 1 or 3 days this week, and i cant go down to 1. i'll just be extra careful at work tonight and make sure not to put any extra pressure on it. and then ice it when i get home and take the naproxen before bed. thanks for the advice!

^^ I do hope it helps, sweetie! Taking it easy even a little bit, like you said above, is better than not taking it easy at all, right? We all gotta do what we gotta do, I know. Believe me.

*healing vibes* and *money vibes* too! I hope you make enough that you can take a few days off in a row & REALLY baby yourself!!!
