Default Hidden strippers in everyday life

A couple years ago, I was taking my political science class, where I partnered up with two girls. Much to my surprise, both of them were former strippers. The three of us spoke of our experiences and reminisced. It was pretty cool. Over the years, I'd find out that a few of my friends also used to strip or waitress in clubs. It was pretty cool to know that there are a lot of us out there who use stripping to make something out of ourselves, whether it's a boost to a career or a career itself.

Contrary to that Christian stripper bitch who is simply trying to undo personal guilt, as well as the stereotype of the coke-snorting party animal who ends up working at Denny's her entire life after losing her looks, a lot of us quietly assimilate into society. The invisible strippers can be your lawyer, your nurse, your coworkers, your kids' teachers, etc.

Have you ever been pleasantly surprised to discover that there were more of you, hidden in the masses?

Yup! I was talking to a bus driver who was about 40 and mentioned my auditions. She told me she used to dance to some years back and she gave me advice on what clubs to go to. Very Cool.

I dont know if I've ever met a "hidden stripper"..lol i love that....but I am sometimes surprised at the people who accept it.
I went to the Dr today because my head still hurts and told my dr that I am a dancer and hit my head on the pole. I braced myself for the lecture or disapproval(she is a very straight laced type)...she asked where I work. I told her..she smiled and siad "oh yeah..i know that place..cool"

I was in shock. You never know! Now I wonder if maybe she ha s abackground in it...she got an odd wistful look in her eyes for a quick second. Hmmmmm....

At my old job I ran into one of my coworkers that used to dance at the same club as me. Crazy.

When I was doing my clinical rotation in a psychiatric hospital, I met a young lady who sadly had checked in because she was homeless and had nowhere to go. She confessed to me that she had stripped in the past and was considering going back. I advised her to avoid it here in Houston, and explained the licensing, the busts, the stupid rules that pretty much bait you, etc. She was very grateful for the advice, and really opened up to me. I honestly started feeling like a nurse that week.

My kid's teacher.... we were talking in the hallway about something, jsut chit chatting, and she asked where I work I sid "Oh, just a bar in phx. I work nights, that's why dad always brings him to school and I pick him up..."

She says "Oh, I used to do that too." I was confused so I gave her a funny look and she says "Oh yah, I spotted you a mile away."

Ha! She wound up being a pretty good friend of mine down the road.

At one point, about 5 of us on the newspaper staff at school were currently or had recently been dancers. We ran that mofo!

I would like to discuss it but I don't because I want to avoid being judged by co-works/classmates. I don't typically care what others think but when it comes to your career I think it does matter.

Okay, marketing and PR have a good share of exceedingly attractive personnel. Reporting/editing staffs? Not so much.

I have only met one person where I currently work. She is in her mid-40s now, but, the woman is a total sweetheart,

however i found out about it one day while talking with her and her supervisor, but, didn't think anything of it as she did a good job of what she did now, and like i said a total sweetheart.

I guess overall you need to judge the person, not their actions

Ok....this kind of sounds like 1)you dont think strippers can be sweethearts..like the fact that she is was shocking
    and
    2) being a stripper is an "action" you should somehow be ashamed of or judge someone for...

i knew that was going to come back at me....

No I was surprised that she was nice for being there for so long; because the history of the call center is to hire the cheapest people available, then throw tons of shit at them which leads to a high turnover rate and allot of people with burnout. The fact that she danced didn't change the relationship at all, it wasn't even a though when we spoke/joked around, etc.

i felt this was too much of a long explanation to post...

    sorry, didn't even see #2....

I was trying to ge to the point of here is D, shes a nice person, funny, etc; the fact that she was a dancer didn't even come into the equation of our friendship. meanwhile some poeple who did overhear her make that statement did change their attitudes to her.

overall D is still the same person before and after she told you (to the poeple who changed their opinion) her past, so why should her past make any difference about her and how you percieve her just because she did something that perhaps you didn't/don't agree with.

When it wasn't onthe table it didn't matter, and now it does was BS to me.

Another mom at the park with her kids. We were talking about our jobs and I said I was a "waitress"...she smiled at me knowingly and said "I used to dance, too". It was weird how she just knew, but totally cool to find another mommy friend that way.

I found out someone in my family was when she was younger but she's so over the top w/ her body that it didn't surprise me, plus I know her daughter was also a stripper.

I see women all around town in the weirdest places that I have worked with. Working at restaurants, stores, banks, offices, concerts, etc! I love to spy the stripper!
