Default Warning: This is disturbing! Yuck!

We've all heard about the crazy women who breastfeed their kids to like 5 or 8 years of age, right? Well, this video is about a woman and her two daughters. One of them is 8 and still breastfeeding. They actually show her breastfeeding her. It's fucked UP!

"I've rather have breast milk than a million melons!"

They like to draw pictures of mom's breasts. I think it's time to move on to solid foods.....

^^ And they have names for them.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. On one hand...it is disturbing to see an 8 year old attached to the breast.

On the other hand...This child has a very close attachment to her mom. Will that help in the teen years with rebellion? Will she be a more polite, obediant kid? Or just act like a spoiled rotten, entitled to everythign kid?
Plus they said prolonged breastfeeding may help with higher I.Q.

My cousin ( male) breastfed until he was 6 years old. He is very smart, sweet, caring, polite guy. He's never been in any trouble and is just a real stand up guy. Does how long he beastfed have anythign to do with it?

I don't know how I feel about this. I agree with the idea of breastfeeding until the child is ready to stop....but I think there comes an age when you sorta start pushing them away. I wouldn't see anythign wrong with breastfeeding until age 2 or 3, just as comfort.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. It's natural and the kids seem normal, so let them have mother's milk.

Weird! I think it's kind of strange. I don't know how I feel when I have children though. Currently I have a very sexual relationship with my breasts. I jack them up in push up bras and adorn them with sparkly pasties and entice men with them and have them pinched and licked and sucked, and that's what they are there for.
Even the idea of giving them to my child for breastfeeding is kind of upsetting to me now. It may change later in my life, but my current standpoint is that I probably won't breastfeed much longer than is recommended, because i will want my boobies back!

the IQ increase/difference is 6 lousy points. the kid will drink that off before it's 21.

i personally think it's taking the 'attachment parenting' philosophy to the extreme.

Well, along the same lines, what about co sleeping? or co showering?
At what age is it time to cut everything off?
Espicially male children and breastfeeding. Should female children be able to breastfeed longer than males?

A lot of kids take baths with their parents for several years. I bathed with my mom occasionally until I was 8. I also crawled in bed with my parents if I had a nightmare or somethign until I was 10 or 11. My mom just always made it known that if we had a bad dream...her door was open. SO I'd crawl in on her side and snuggle up and go back to sleep.

hmm....I think this is just somethign I won't have a solid opinon on until I have a child.

LOL. It's definitely culturally disturbing to me, but I honestly can't think of any reason why it's fucked up beyond that. I mean if everything is working (mom is still making milk), it's kind of hard to argue that it's biologically abnormal. I'm sure these kids would be ridiculed to death if they were in a USA school and told their peers, "yum, nothing like mommy's milk to start the day", but other then the social negatives, I guess whatever works.

Bleh, sorry not try to be close minded or anything, but this is just a little too extreme. Even dogs push thier pups away when they are ready to ween them. I think showering and sleeping together are two totally different things. Sleeping with your parents has more to do with feeling protected. I think showering is also just one of those things that your child should be weened off at a certain age 6-7-8 is usually around the time kids start getting embarrased about there bodys and want privacy. Also not ever parent showers naked with there child, I use to shower off my sis in a bikini till she was like 6. I just think breastfeeding is a bit much, but I guess we all draw our lines somewhere. I don't look at the breast as a sexual thing (necassarly oops sp). Plus the IQ hasn't been proven, they said IT MAY increase the IQ.

I honestly think it has more to do with the mother than with the children. Yes, they say they're happy with breast-feeding... but how much of that opinion do you think came from the mom vs. themselves? From what I've gathered from the video, I don't think it's socially acceptable in England (or wherever they were from), either. There are other ways to bond and there are other ways to get nutrition.

Yea, I was being generous. Putting that aside, my natural inclination is to agree with you, and I'm thinking mom gets some kind of unusual ego stroke out of having her kids remain so dependent on her.

Is it true that breastfeeding causes you to have hormones that decrease yr sex drive? Did she get hers back after all these years or something?

It's a tough one. I DO think 8 is little old, but then, who the hell am *I* to say that? I know of people who think that once a child begins to speak, basically, it's time to wean, and yet I have friends who nursed their kids until they were around 3 and both mom and kid wanted it that way. They were happy and healthy. If it made other people uncomfortable, especially complete strangers, then that was THEIR PROBLEM.

Point being, where do you draw the line? And who draws it, anyway? Again, I'm not saying that 8 isn't unusually old, I agree that it is - but I also know I'll be freaking furious if people start tsk-tsking at me because I've gone over what THEY think the limit should be, according to their authority.

^^^ IMHO The line was drawn the second they filmed the act.

That was gratuitous and unnecessary. And now it's on youtube. SHEEEEESH.

How a family parents their child and raises their child is up to them. We shouldn't see any more filming on breast feeding than we do on how to spank. If the child and parent are healthy, happy, and being raised properly in a promoting environment, it's their decision what they do.

I find this perfectly revolting. Two or three is pushing it, but school-age? Ugh.

I disagree - thats pretty much the last thing in the world that is shocking and disturbing to me.
Violence towards children is shocking and disturbing not feeding them the most natural way possible.

Edited to add - where cows milk comes from is much more shocking and disturbing than this!

Well, that much I definitely do agree with, for sure.

It is not "natural" to breastfeed an eight-year-old in the presence of ample food. It's natural to wean the child once breastmilk is no longer necessary, which is why so many of us are creeped out by this. Instinctively we know it's weird and inappropriate.

Hmm. It is untraditional, and very weird to see. But I'd much rather hear about a woman breat feeding her 8 year old than beating it.

Says who? Who drew that line and why does everyone have to stick to it?
Just because we in the west generally have some bizarre problem with breasts being used to produce milk doesnt mean that every mother has to stop breast feeding her children before the age of 2 or not feed at all.

Breast are incidently just milk cartons waiting to happen. As much as I despise children I sort of think its nice to see breasts used for their natural purpose for a change instead of just being sexual objects.

The benefits to the mother are huge too - long term breast feeding reduces the risk of breast cancer enormously.

I cant believe someone felt the need to slap a warning on that beautiful documentary. The kids drawings are rad too!

Despise is such a strong word to use when describing feelings for children. I understand some have less patience for them than others, but, ow.

I despise children too. Actually, no, I hate them. Sorry. I believe God put people here for different reasons. Some were meant to be nurturing mothers. Others are supposed to use thos enurturing feelings for other things, like animals or the elderly.

Anyway. I think its gross. When a child is old enough to ask for it, that should be a tip-off when it's time to stop.

Hell, even animals push away their young and wean them off their milk. People should take the hint.
