    Default Not meant for me?

Ok I just need to vent for a minute, if you feel like offering any advice it's completely up to you but greatly appreciated.

I really want to take this bartending class because I'm sick of dancing, but I can't even make $600 for the damn class. This week has been busy but horrible for me. Before that I took a week off because of how frustrated I was getting. Almost every customer I walk up to denies me (very rudely as well) I just don't get it. I can take getting turned down for a dance but the way some of these guys lately have been doing it is just plain old fucking rude.. You would expect that people coming to a strip club want to have a good time and talk to beautiful women, right? Well no, I guess not. I have a list of all the best advice I could find on hustle hut that I read everyday before work. My looks or clothes are not the problem, I don't get drunk at work, yet I get turned down for dances all the time but I see dirtier girls getting them often. I really can't act like that, it's just not in me, which is one of the reasons I want to quit, I'm not good enough for a place like Club Paradise and not dirty enough for every other popular club. *sigh* I really wanted to try working in a smaller, midwest club out of Vegas (it fits me better) but I can't afford to do that either.

I'm just hoping and praying that I can turn my luck around so I can keep myself afloat in the meantime before quitting for good.
    Thanks for listening.

I was looking into bartending as well and careful with the class thing. A lot of them are scams. I've heard it's better to start as a waitress and work your way up from there.

Very true on the scams, and you are right on getting waitressing experience first also if you don't already have any.

A thing I have learned from a lot of people (mostly people that bartend themselves) is that a lot of bartending places like to hire people with no experience so that they can train them their way. They don't want someone coming in from somewhere else and wanting to do it their own way, it's not true in all cases, but you will be surprised

Oh, hon, I'm sorry you feel this way. Vegas has been SO BAD and girls are desperate and are doing nasty things to make money, right now.

I've been so frustrated lately, too and all the custies have totally rude to me as well, so it's definitely not you. I think the guys are getting over hustled by rude ass girls ( who are desperate ) and in turn it turns them into assholes. It's so annoying when the club is packed but only filled with jerks.

My self esteem is in the toilet, but I'm really trying to not let work effect the way I feel about myself, but it's easier said than done. I think I need a change of pace too.

Keep repeating in your head that you are beautiful and try to project it when approaching customers, when they are rude just walk away and brush it off.

You are good enough to work ANYWHERE, believe this, because ultimately confidence sells.

I don't know if this helped, but I just had to let you know I feel your pain.

    Good Luck!

a bartending class is pretty much useless in getting a bartending job. you can just go apply to be a waitress or cocktailer now, if you are sick of dancing.

^The thing is, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I tried looking online (lvrj.com, etc.) but they all want people with experience. When I try to apply at strip clubs, they try and convince me to dance instead. There is a bartending agency that helps you out w/out any experience but you need some sort of licensing to do that. lol

Should I just try local bars or something?

Can you start at the club you work at at all?

In oregon you need liquor serving licensing... with that it's just a process of applying at different places 'til you get hired.

Bartending schools are nearly always a waste of money. The best way to learn bartending is to do it, or to cocktail waitress while you learn to mix. And I hear you with the Vegas thing - I couldn't make money in Vegas either, for a lot of the same reasons. Try Tina's list of clubs in the northwest - you might think you can't afford to travel, but I went to Montana with nothing but the $150 I made one shift for gas, and I banked there. If things are that bad in Vegas, travel almost has to pay off.

    1. try taking a working vacation in a lucrative city like Dallas. If you have Vegas skills you'll do great there, and it it very inexpensive to stay for a week-month. New York also good, but very expensive to stay.

    2. Your attitude is probably scaring away your custies. Whether you know it or not, moods are very apparent in body language, tone of voice and all sorts of other tells. If you have to tell yourself "I'm an actress and this is my big scene!" just to get through each sell, then do it. Just make up a character of who you want to be at work, and then turn yourself into her--mentally.

Just start bartending . There is no need to have experience. Most drinks are easy ( i.e. bud light , whiskey and coke, ect. )

I was a bartender in college and it's a lot of fun !

Why bartend? Why not cocktail waitress?

I KNOW you don't need experience for that...The HArd Rock hired me on the spot, and I never served a drink in my life. If yoru hot...they'll train you.
Plus.....cocktailign gives you bartending experience. At Hard Rock, you must take a pour test in order to work in high limit. Which means...you gotta learn drink recipes, then take a test where you prove you know the drinks and shots...then you are allowed to work in high limit, wher eyou are the bartender and the waitress.
And at Hard Rock...they kinda just throw you into makign drinks. You have to take turns being a beer tub girl...where you serve corona, bud light, and vodka redbull...and a few other mixed drinks. You get bartending experience hat way as well.
And cocktailign at a major casino like that is stripper money. At hard rock I was pullign in anywhere from 200-1000 a night. Of course...it's 8 hour shifts, and HARD fuckign work....but it's good money none the less.

    Worth loking into.
Just go onlien and apply EVERYWHERE.

Venetian is openign a new casino Palazzo very soon, they are hiring. Plus City Center is gonna start hiring soon, I think they are already accepting applications. Then you got all the MGM casinos, and all the Harrahs casinos.
Even Station casinos make decent money( green valley ranch or Sunset station)

I wouldn't suggest traveling to Dallas right now, actually.

It's as slow here as it is everywhere else. And extras seem, to me, to be just as rampant.

You could charge it (bad advice, I know, but you could). I'm taking bartending class right now and I really like it--it's forcing me to memorize a bunch of drinks and get fast. I'll let you know if it helps me get hired. They do help you get hired once you pass the test, as well, I'll let you know how helpful they are once I pass. I decided to take the class because I don't really drink, know very little about mixed drinks, and would have looked like a complete fool at the first place I got hired.

My plan to get a job is dress up really nice, wear a short skirt and a low cut shirt and talk to/hand out resumes to every bar I can find (that gets good business). I'm also planning to put a pic of myself on my resume. Perhaps this would work for you without the school? Otherwise, cocktail watressing is a great option.

"When I try to apply at strip clubs, they try and convince me to dance instead." Quote When I went in to strip clubs to apply for a cocktail job, I made it very clear to them right away that I had been a dancer and was at their club because I was burnt out and needed a change. Maybe if you make this clear, they won't pressure you as much? Or maybe they have too many cocktails and they aren't making $ either & that's why they want you to dance.

    Good Luck!

Do you think putting exotic dancer on your resume for a bartending/cocktailing job is a bad idea? I'm not opposed to putting it on an application but I'd feel really stupid putting it on my resume and handing it out like that. After reading a few threads about bartending school, 95% of the people said not to do it. And I really can't afford it anyway.

I really don't want to waitress but I think I'll go apply at Hard Rock anyway.

    Good luck to you also!

Kaylinn, I got this message after filling out the online application:

Based on your answers, you do not meet the requirements to submit to this job at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Maybe because I don't have serving experience. I guess you need it to work there. Oh well I tried.

^^ They do not require experience to work there...I had none at all, and was hired, but I did not see any openings when I went on their website, so maybe that was the problem.

Another thing you can do is fudge up your experience just to get the interview, and they wil lhire based on your personality. Liek say...6 months experience serving drinks at so and so strp club. They wopn;t call and verfy. That's what I did.
The damn computer prescreens people out..but in reality hard rock will train you if they like you enough.

    Try everywher else.

I'm using the job title sales and promotions. I did lots of promos for my club.
I put the overall company name dejavu, not the name of my club-hustler- which is really recognizable as a sc. I'll see how it works.

Go to the website www.misscharming.com Click on "for bartenders", then go to "resumes for bartenders" and also "bartender tricks and hints". Very helpful! I especially like her advice to offer to work for "free" for the first week--you would get tips only and no hourly pay. Then if you work out, they can hire you for real.

Also, it's very important to apply in person. Try to talk to a manager, don't just hand your resume/app to the bartender.

Also, you don't have to start at the Hard Rock. Try seeing if you can gain experience at an off-strip hotel, restaurant, bar, etc.

I have also always been told bartending school is not worth it. I started cocktailing with no experience and they told they would train me as a bartender if I wanted to. They offered before I could even ask. It was really easy. I think it's best to just get hired somewhere, get them to train you as a bartender, get some experience, then apply where you really want to work.

Cocktail waitressing is not that bad. Esp at a strip club, you make great tips and you don't have to serve a lot of food!

I started dancing by waitressing at a strip club and I think overall I might have made more doing that, lol! I was making anywhere from $2-800! I even had customers who would come in just to talk to me while I worked! Hmm...
