    Default Paxil Side Effects

I posted a while ago about how I kept having really strange near-fainting spells, and found out it was anxiety and panic disorder. So my doctor gave me Paxil.

I've been taking it for 3 days now, and today I woke up feeling so sick to my stomach. Every morning when I wake up, I feel almost hungover... actually, I kinda feel like I'm coming down from an E. My head feels really detached and weird and I feel like I need to throw up (I won't, though).

Has anyone else experienced this with Paxil? Are these only temporary side effects?

I'm feeling so depressed today... I hate feeling so shitty, and I hate it that I have this stupid fucking anxiety, and I hate that I keep nearly passing out from it, and I just wish I didn't have it so I wouldn't have to take these horrible pills.

I use to take Paxil, the side effects were awful. Effexor was a better choice for me.

Mm, see I've also tried Effexor and that was HORRIBLE for me. I was studying at Makeup School when I started taking it, and after like a week on it, I was getting so fucking spaced out and weird from it... one day I was sitting in the locker room before class, and suddenly I stood up and grabbed my things, told everyone I fucking hated this school, and told all my teachers to fuck off because I was quitting. I got straight into a cab and went home, threw myself on the couch and cried hysterically for 15 mins, then snapped out of it and was like, "What the fuck did I just do?!??!" I don't even remember doing it, I was in a complete daze. The next day I had to call the school and apologize to all the teachers and explain that I'd started taking a new anti-depressant and it was really messing with my head.

I was on a really high dose of Effexor though, I think that it may have been way too high. Either way, it made me go really crazy and I didn't even feel alive anymore. I wasn't sad, but I wasn't happy, I was completely numb. You could've killed a person infront of me and I don't think I'd have shown any emotion at all.

Paxil is horrible and I have no idea why it's still on the market.

I decided after a week that panic attacks were easier to live with than Paxil. After a few months of therapy without dope, I learned to manage my panic attacks and now it's quite rare for me to get one.

Urrgghh.... maybe I should stop taking it then. It doesn't sound good.

I feel really fucking fragile and depressed today, which is stupid because I'm not even taking Paxil for depression, I'm taking it for anxiety.

Im sorry... thats gotta be rough.

I took Lexapro for a year which helped me survive SEVERE panic attacks. I mean I had panic disorder AND agoraphobia (which is the fear of going to places where you've had the panic attacks - mine was always in the car)

Anyway I juuuuuuust weaned myself off with the help of a doc and am free!!! Now I can manage my anxiety/panic without anything.

So, maybe you can try something else. I havent heard great things about Paxil.

    Good luck!

Cymbalta is a newer drug that is more geared towards patients with anxiety issues. Have you heard anything about it at all?

That's exactly what I have, and mine is almost always in the car too. I'm getting to a point where I'm scared to drive past places that I've had panic attacks at before, because when I do I start feeling dizzy again.

I've not heard of Cymbalta, or Lexapro... maybe I'll ask my doc about them.

I took paxil for a little while. HORRIBLE.

Not the least it made me incredibly constipated and i felt like i had premenstrual cramps the entire time i was on it.

Then when I thought it couldnt get worse, coming off it seriously fucked with my brain chemistry for months. Get off it while you can! There are many alternatives.

With the lifestyle I lead I tend to go the benzo route, but its not for everyone. Good luck.

I have never tried Paxil, it's something I have been recommended, I have tried Effexor and got nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness, etc... Zoloft gave me the least side effects. Truthfully though, any kind of anti depressant is going to have similar side effects, especially within the first couple of weeks while your body adjusts to it, then it will get better and the medicine will kick in and make you feel better

I was on Lexapro for like a week once, about the same side effects, nausea, loss of appetite, drowsiness, etc... My boyfriend is on Cymbalta, it does great for him, but still, like I said in my previous post, they're all going to have side effects, some may be worse than others because of different body types.

I must be the only person that Paxil has done great things for. I've been on it a year now, and I've tried all the others. They would make my heart race, pupils dialate, and made it hard to breathe, which turned into more panic attacks! I was afraid to take Paxil after all the horrible stuff I've read up on it, but I have had no side effects, other than happiness, and free of panic attacks.

I now believe it's all about finding out which works with your body best. If you are having these side effects I'd try something else. At worse they'll end up giving you Zanax or Valium. At least that's what was offered to me if the Paxil didn't work.

I hope you feel better soon!

Ugh I had to call in sick to work tonight cos I'm so nauseas and shakey and spaced out from the Paxil.

I'll give it a few more days and if it's still this bad, I'll try something else.

I'm VERY bitter about Paxil. I was prescribed it when I was 15 years old, and it fucked my shit up. Nightmares, passing out in the shower, having "brain zaps" and momentarily losing vision while just walking around, and just disassociating me with other human beings. I saw people as "projections" rather than actual people when I was on that drug, and nothing mattered to me. It made me feel not only suicidal but insane, so I just stopped taking it. I had just gone off to college, so I'm pretty sure that being pushed to do that at such a young age (basically getting the boot) had me situationally depressed. I also wasn't getting the kind of follow-up that I should have. I'm pissed I was even put on it. I was reluctant, but I felt so depressed that I felt like anything would help. Google teen Paxil and suicide and it brings up a lot of information. It might be linked to suicide in young adults ages 18-30 as well. It's no longer prescribed to those under 18 in the United States.

Anyway, I supposed I'm biased being a Suicidal Teen on Paxil, but those were the side effects for me. They were so unbearable that I just stopped taking it altogether, which send me flailing headfirst into a mental place I hope to never revisit.

Paxil was the first drug I ever took for my psychological issues, so I am probably biased against it, but I *hated* it. I was 13, very depressed, and for some reason all the Paxil did was make me worse. My anger issues got really bad while I took it, and I always felt like I was on the verge of tears. Little things would make me freak out, and I would cry for what seemed like forever. I took it for 3 months before a doctor switched me off of it to something else, but I know those three months sucked.

I really hope you are starting to feel better.

How many mgs are you taking a day? Maybe you started out on too high of a dose?

I was talking half of the lowest dose pill available per day.

ginger, I got the verge of tears thing too. All day yesterday I kept feeling like I was about to burst into tears for no reason. I was doing some reading on Paxil and one website said that weight gain was a side effect and I started crying hysterically and then started panicking that I'd gained heaps of weight in the whole three days I was on it, and wouldn't eat anything yesterday.

I'm not taking it anymore. I didn't take it last night and I slept for 12 hours, I feel pretty crappy today but HEAPS better than yesterday, yesterday was fucking horrible.

i refused to take this when a therapist prescribed it. i heard so many horror stories about both taking it and coming off of it. imo, its a really good thing you stopped now, because you'd end up in a really bad place when you tried to stop if it was further down the road.

I've had a lot of luck with Lexapro. The side effects weren't to bad to manage. My doctor told me to take it at night after dinner and the only time I was queasy was when he doubled my dosage. I don't feel spaced out or loopy when I'm on it The only disadvantage is it is expensive - about 100 dollars for a months supply but my doctor gives me tons of free samples which helps

I felt really disoriented on the stuff. I tried Paxil and Zoloft for my ED and panic attacks, paxil made me feel kinda the same way pain meds do, which I hate. Zoloft left me a little light headed and unable to sleep. Neither lasted a month.

Wellbutrin has worked amazingly well for me. No panic, no food obsessions, no increase in appetite, and I don't feel "weird" or disoriented.

Paxil had me so loopy I passed out in the cellphone store while I was paying my bill...and then passed out again in the parking lot.

I know people probably thought I was on drugs. Like, the illegal kind.

    Paxil.

I think I have like 10 sample boxes of Strattera and like a full bottle of Paxil. I will not be taking either.

Can I sell it back to a doctor? lol

Stay away from Paxil! I was on it and felt like I was tweaking, I didn't sleep or eat for 3 days, I went to the doctors and it lowered my blood pressure so much that everytime I stood, or walked anywhere I felt faint I seriously just layed on the couch the whole time. Paxil has the worst come down too, my uncle was on it for 6 months and actually had to go to a medical detox to get off of it because of the side effects. Be careful with all antidepressants as they can cause seizures, and never mix them without an ok from a doctor or pharmisist.
I take zoloft now and havn't had a problem, but all these pills you kind of have to see what works best for you, kind of like bc, so talk to your doctor and see what your other options are.
    Hope you feel better!

    Just a note:

Lexapro might be called Cipralex in Australia. That's what it is here in Canada.

I have been on Paxil for 10 years now. I started on it for severe panic attacks. It works for me, but I do not recommend it to others. Here's why: I cannot wean myself off this stuff. I'm addicted to the point that it scares me. When I tried cutting my dosage it sent me into a nearly catatonic state. I have never been a suicidal person, but that was about as close as I want to get. To make matters worse, it has been proven that taken paxil while pregnant can lead to birth defects. If you ever want to have children then you probably don't want to be dependent on a medicine that can harm them during pregnancy.
So yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with Paxil. Like I said, it works for me. I suffered from really bad anxiety for as long as I can remember (even at, like, 3 years old). We're not talking situational, run-of-the-mill, "it'll pass" anxiety. I'm grateful that I only suffer the occasional panic attack, and even those are only medium intensity and short-lived. But I HATE being dependent on the stuff, and I HATE knowing that if I ever needed to come off of it the withdrawals would be a living hell.
So unless you have researched other options to no avail, and are sure that this medication is the best cure for you, I cannot recommend Paxil.
