Default Pole w/ stage v. floor to ceiling

If this topic is covered somewhere else, feel free to ignore...

So I've been hunting around for an affordable pole to practice the one pole trick I know on. I'm on a college students budget, and can't really spend more than $200. I'm also a renter, so I'm looking for something that won't ding up the ceiling.

I found a platinum stages pole (the one with the platform/coffee table) for sale on craigslist for $200. I likey the price, but do you think it would be better to spend that money on a floor to ceiling pole? Are there drawbacks to the platinum stages pole? I'm not going to be climbing ass backwards up a pole or anything, so it doesn't matter to me that the pole doesn't go up super high. The only drawback I can see is that the stage might limit some of my floor movements around the pole... Any thoughts?

Also, has anyone successfully rented out a portable pole? I live close to a bunch of fraternities, and I can imagine most would be willing to pay for a pole at their parties. I'm sure there's all sorts of legal precautions I'd need to take though. I don't want to get sued if some drunk chick falls off the stage and breaks her nose...

lil mynx goes up with a little hook in the ceiling. Looks like it is mounted to the floor but it's not. Very stable. I am still loving mine!

The small stage will limit you to some extent, but a floor to ceiling pole will have to be mounted somehow, and that somehow will likely involve messing with the ceiling. Unless you or friends of yours are skilled with designing and constructing some sort of lower, broader stage, maybe, with weights to stabilize the pole even if it isn't fastened to the ceiling.

You can buy a 10 foot steel electrical conduit for about 10-15$, as I did, thus leaving you plenty within your budget to buy and/or build some sort of improved stage. It will be tough to grip at first, but you'll get used to it. If it were me, I'd want a broad but low stage. Beware of tripping over it, though, lol.

But you might just want to go for the ready made pole from Craigslist, and deal with the stage problem. Sometimes it's easier to just buy something with inherent limitations, than to spend hours trying to build something without any prior experience.

Well the roomies REALLY liked the idea of a stage, and I'm impatient, so I went ahead on got the PS pole. I'll let everyone know how it turned out. Thanks for the replies.
