    Default Treadmill and getting lightheaded

Everytime I get off the treadmill I'm light headed. It doesn't seem to matter what the intensity of my workout is. I usually do a brisk walk for 30 to 46 minutes. Today I did 30 minutes of walking with about 4 intervals of running (trying to start running). When I got off I was lightheaded, almost a bit wobbly. Any ideas on what's causing this?

No idea, but the exact same thing happens to me. I always feel like I'm still moving on it and I'm really light headed after coming off it.

Did you drink enough water prior to your workout? Then drink enough during?

Dehydration can certainly be an issue, but also so can your breathing. A lot of people, when they run, breath differently, holding their breath for periods without even realizing it, and when they stop running, they find themseleves very lightheaded/dizzy. Try drinking during your run, but also consciously tell yourself to exhale as well.

Sounds like dehydration. Make sure to drink a ton of water 30 minutes before starting your workout.

This happens to me too..not that bad though. I chalk it up to my asthma...I get lightheaded and shaky when my body isnt getting enough oxygen.

I think the treadmill can mess with your equilibrium. You are walking and walking, yet never going anywhere. Your mind adjusts to the floor that keeps moving under you. When you turn off the machine, I think its pretty normal for your head to have to find a new balance on land thats no longer in motion.

As Zabrina said...sounds like a bit of vertigo. You get the same sensation from zipping along in a car and watching the telephone poles and then suddenly coming to a stop. Perhaps a gradual slow down to verrry slow (1 mph) when you are doing a cool down and before you get off the machine would help.

    Ya'll are awesome!

I drink during my workout but I'm gonna try to drink more, not just when I'm thirsty and se if that helps. And I'll try to regulate my breathing more. I heard somewhere that not breathing correctly is what causes a stitch in your side and i try to be aware of it to avoid that but I do catch myself sometimes not breathing well.

I forgot where I read it but for every 2 steps air goes in through nose and the next 2 steps air goes out through the mouth no matter how fast or slow you go.

try a really slow cooldown like the Doc suggested....just make sure it lasts at least ten minutes....your heart rate needs time to readjust. Spending at least ten minutes plodding along at a very slow pace with my arms over my head has made a world of difference for me.

    UPDATE:

I went back to the gym today and drank more water than usual before and during my treadmill workout. I also tried to be more aware of my breathing and do more of a cool down. There was a definate difference in how I felt. I did still feel slightly lightheaded but not nearly as bad as before.
