    Default DJ's, Friend or Fo

A DJ is an important link in the day to day opperations of a strip club. He or she has to ride the fence, sort of a buffer between club, managment and entertainers to try to keep everything running smooth. Of corse a large portion of the DJ's income comes from tips from the entertainers, so I figure I'd start this thread to discuss oppinions on all sides of the spectrum. So hit me up. DJ BEN

Yeah, it should be in Stripping General or Music Mix. I'm sure it'll get moved.

Ben, you might want to try doing a search. The whole "My DJ is a douche/My DJ is awesome!" thing has been done many many times.

I've only been on this site for a week or so, and havn't found a thread on this subject yet. Let me try to clear up my intent. I posted this on "hustle hut" because I figure that a DJ would have some good "hustling" ideas, to further EVERYONES ability to make better cash within the industry. As a DJ, I spend every minute of my shift watching and analyzing the floor, and I've seen a great amount of cash walk right out of the club, still in the customers wallet. Not every customer that walks through the door is willing to just throw cash at an entertainer because she told him to get a dance, but then again, that doesn't mean that he's not there to spend some serious money. The more idea's that we discus, the better chance the entertainer has of increasing their earnings, and maybe the better the entertainer understands a DJ's position in helping them to that goal.

^ I don't know. I'm mildly interested and I don't think we've discussed specifically the ways in which DJs can help our hustle. Although I can't think of any examples myself, besides the obvious: them simply doing their jobs right.

I don't know, are their any times a DJ has helped any of us score a particular well paying customer?

    I haven't.

I have a DJ who just does his job correctly--no power trip, no mumbling, constant on-mike reminders that dances are available, cuts my songs appropriately, plays what I ask for. He's even pointed me toward customers who have asked him about dance prices. So, he does help my hustle. And I tip him well for it.

well, speaking of the effect of the dj on the hustle...pearl jam and other depressing crap can't possibly help. way too little of the music i hear in clubs is sexy. what's up with that?

I have. One of the DJ's I work with now ROCKS! He tells me if guys ask him about girls or he sees them flash cash. He'll also stop if he's walking by me talking to a custie and say something like "whoa...you snagged yourself the hottest girl in here buddy...way to go!".

Sometimes it works ..sometimes it doesnt, but I always appreciate the effort.

He'll also skip me on stage if he sees that I've got a big spender on the hook..even if we are just sitting at the bar...so that I dont have to leave the guy mid-hustle. THIS has helped me numerous times.

As much as I don't care for the Cheetah Clubs in South Florida......for many reasons I will not state here, I do LOVE there DJs. Most of them anyway. They NEVER/rarely play rap or hip hop. They keep the music generally upbeat yet sexy. I know for a fact the owner "Joe Rodriguez", is extremely tough with his employees but whatever he is doing/saying to his DJs certainly does the trick.

Well now, that's subjective. In my geographical location, Pearl Jam (and just about ANY rock) does well, including horrible songs like "Rape Me" and "That Smell".

I think DJ's help money in more subversive ways. For girls who do a lot of stage dancing, their music is important. If the DJ is in tune with what they want, the girl will feel the vibe, perform better and ultimately will make more money because we know attitude has a lot to do with income.

I feel a GOOD DJ is crucial to making money in a club. One that pumps you up and makes the crowd feel obligated to tip and spend money.

If a club is run properly, and you get adequate stage time, that jivey pumped up DJ is your best friend. He/She knows what music you like, and really is instrumental in helping you make money. I ALWAYS tip a GOOD DJ more than the minimum.

A DJ just needs to play the right music for the crowd and the dancers. Bonus points if he can psych the guys up for every dancer and play good music without constant instruction. If he tries to play God in the booth I tip the bare minimum.

    My "DJ" is a computer

We have an MC but the music is all just played thru the computer. It sucks ASS.

I wanted DJOSER to be our DJ but he would be too tempted to launch himself on our two story high poles

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

Not only does your DJ take care of the entertainer during her "stage time" he sets the mood for the whole club as well. Those table dances are still happening to the music that the DJ is spinning. Long songs mean not as many chances for dance's. If you have a dj that plays 96 songs in a shift and you have one that cuts em to 3.5 to 4 minutes then you get 120 songs in that same shift. Thats a possible 480 bucks that is available. I've seen DJs play long songs and back em up as much as possible to get the girls to "pay off stage" in order to make his/or her money. That only takes money out of the entertainers pocket. But then again if a DJ has a club full of dancers that tip the "minimum" then, more power to em. Every employee is there to make money, remember that when your shellin out 5 bucks from your stack of 500 for the DJ. P.S. pay attention tonight and count how many songs are being played and how your customer is reacting to the type/genre of the format throughout your shift.

No DJ has EVER helped me sell a single lapdance. Ever. in 12 years. They all sure like to think they do though

It's the bouncers/floormen and waitresses who are the biggest help, if any. THEY are the ones who know where the money is and have direct access to put you in the sweet spot. All the DJ has to do is keep pushing his buttons and announce the next girl, thanks. How many times have we been over this anyway? 100? 1000? DJs always have an excessively inflated opinion of their importance in the club, when in reality a monkey could replace 99.99999999999% of them.

Someday I will show you the difference, mark my words. No doorman I have ever met or heard of can hold a candle to me as far as selling dances, even on a bad night.

Though I agree that 99% of SCDJs are no better than trained monkees.

Also that this subject has been beaten into the ground.

My favorite DJ of all time (cally, still uber jealous of you!) could help make any night a good night.

I'm not sure what it was, wether he could read the crowd correctly and play the right music to get guys in the mood, or his timing, or what....

As far as helping my hustle, there were times when I would pop into the DJ booth and he'd point out customers who he had seen that looked like my type of custy.
But other than reading the crowd right and playing the right music to get them going, and basicaly just be a good DJ, I don't think any DJ has really helped MY hustle.

DJoser, I want to work with you someday so very badly....yes, yes I do. And you're right. Horse, dead, stop beating.

WTF are you talking about? We don't make a guaranteed minumum. FYI what we say to the customer to get him into the VIP isn't song lyrics. And once we're there he can't hear the music yet he re-buys and re-buys VIP time. The money you make is not our responsibility or concern. That's the chance you took going to work there. Just like the chance we took. Everybody wants to make money so I guess you should do your best and stop pitching this pulaver to get more credit for the DJs of the world than they deserve.
