    Default Pole is TOO grippy

I've found lots of posts on how to make poles grippier, but none on what, if anything, can be done for a pole that's too grippy.

I just got a PS pole in stainless steel (???). I got the pole off craigslist and the guy I got it from doesn't remember what the material was...he got it for frat party and said he just got whatever was cheapest. Anyways, the pole is just too damn grippy. It's great for holding myself up (seriously....my full body can hang as dead weight from my hands and my hands won't budge) but it's almost impossible to spin around.

Any way to make a pole less grippy? WD-40?

LOL! Yeah, that would definitely do it. (Joking, please don't use WD-40. That's got bad news written all over it.)

Actually, I don't know. I imagine there's a way to condition them but I've run into a few poles in my day that were too grippy so I just didn't use them for spins. They were good for climbing and doing fancy inverts though.

i can't imagine it would be anything other than stainless steel. In my experience it is grippier than brass, but not by a whole whole lot. Maybe you will just get used to it?

i have stainless steel, and it is definitely not grippy. i would be interested in how to make it grippy AT ALL (it is slick as anything) without involving jeweller's rouge in the proceedings (the only thing that provides some temporary grip).

I have stainless steel too and it's definitely not grippy. It took me a while to get used to using it.

Try cleaning it to get rid of any residue it may have from previous use.

Try going to your local hardware store and telling them you have a stainless steel surface that you want to smooth out. They should be able to recommend a chemical buffer that you can use to de-grip it a bit. Make sure you give them accurate info about the surface texture of the pole so they are able to correctly advise you.

Yeah, the level of grippiness decreases from brass, to stainless, to whatever kind of steel they use in electrical conduits, which is what I have (and is slippery as hell).

My guess is that the previous owner coated it with something to make it easier to use (grip generally making for greater ease), but which makes spinning harder. I wonder if a little light sanding with a fine grain sandpaper might be what you need--but I'm not sure about this, either. It would certainly tend to remove any coating on the pole.

Be very careful what you use to treat it (shudders at thought of WD-40, lol!). Also remember that with time any surface can be gotten used to to some extent, so you may want to opt for a less drastic treatment.

If you treat the pole and it is slippery as hell, your learning time will increase.

Good luck, and keep us posted...

He has a point. You could just get used to it, which you will over time. Iv had to get used to all types of pole. I find the chrome X`s the stingiest! Boy can they sting!

are you positive it's a ps pole? the mirrored stainless is the most "slick" of all surfaces.

can you take a pic of it ..specifically the top and bottom plates?

i agree that it may actually be a lil mynx chrome (which is essentially the same as powder coated) i find chrome to be too sticky for me...gives me blisters.

Well I was on a forum years ago, the Marilyn Manson BBS, and someone posted this pic with the words `Thats it The Internet Is Over` on it. I never got the joke, but I stole the pic.

Note to self: baby oil is a horrible idea. It's a good thing I have pillows at the base of the pole.

It's entirely possible that I just need to get used to the pole. I've cleaned it down with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any residue, but its still super grippy. I don't think the previous owner did anything to it since he said he used it for about a total of two hours at a frat party. I'll take a picture of it when it gets light enough for my crappy webcam to actually work.

In the meantime its super easy to hang upsidown on.

Whoa with the baby oil--that's worse than WD40, lol!

You are correct about getting used to it. When I got my new one, it was way too slippery, and it was like being a newbie all over again, to an amazing extent. Now it's fine, with the added advantage that normal poles are easier.

And the hanging upside down easily is good, that'll help you develop those kinds of tricks. Just remember to be careful when you try the upside down tricks on a normal pole--the first time I tried a stainless steel pole I slid right down and hit my head on the fucking stage, lol! The only thing that stopped me from bashing my head in was that I instinctively tightened my forearm and it slowed me enough--but I had a horrendous bruise on my arm from doing it.
