Default Fat chicks buy clothes too

So. I have a very, very chubby friend. There is a possibility that her contract will not be renewed and she will have to do job interviews for... the first time in a real long time. She dresses not very nicely (she has the "when I lose the weight" syndrome). So - both a substance and a style question. What kinds of things SHOULD you wear if you are short and fat - I mean, nothing is going to make her willowy, but there is no reason she can't look nice and 2) where do you get these clothes? Like professional, interview-type clothes. It is not the kind of thing I know about and she knows even less (and just feels so bad about herself that she's all "Why bother?" I'm trying to explain that you HAVE to bother about this if you're looking for a new job.)

So...how chubby are we talking? Pennington's specializes in plus-sized clothing and they carry up to a size 32.

i would say a combination between Lane Bryant and a good tailor.

Being short can making shopping challenging. Everything has to be cropped and "taken in" so the lines fall appropriately. She may have to shop one size up and then get things tailored to her proportions.

Style wise - nothing too baggy, as it will make her appear even larger, but nothing too tight, for obvious reasons. Avoid all one colored outfits (purple pants and purple tops, etc), because it makes you look like a giant grape (or lemon, or whatever).

Torrid has cute stuff, as does lane bryant.

Unless she's trying to get a job at hot tpoic, I would avoid torrid for now. Lane Bryant has very professional attire for larger ladies.

How chubby are we talking??? I guess it doesn't even matter .....find her a good tailor, convince her to spend the money having her clothes fitted properly. No matter where they're from, it will make a WORLD of difference and she will look so much more "put together"

watch a couple episodes of what not to wear (i know that they are sort of style fascists but their basic advice is good)

mostly they recommend pants that are strait from the butt down, with a crease down the front and back to add a longer line. heels help. avoid baggy, pleated or tapered pants.

tops that are structured, and fitted but not tight. (suit coats, button downs, and thick knits) avoid anything clingy looking.

darker or neutral clothing with a bright color around the face, such as a bright shirt layered under something or a bright necklace.

Tell her to try Jessica London. Stylish without being too out there; perfect for the office.

    Do you mean chubby...or fat?

IE... needs to lose about 30lbs...or needs to lose about 100lbs.

    Cuz there is a difference.

I co-sign Torrid and Lane Bryant.
