    Default "cocktail"

this is just an observation. have any of you noticed that your bigger spenders use the word cocktail instead of drink? as in "would you like a cocktail?" instead of "can i buy you a drink?". it's not true 100% of the time, but (at least for me) the majority. it might have something to do with older men being more likely to say cocktail, but then again.. plenty of older cheap guys say "drink".

    just something odd i noticed.

I don't think anyone's ever offered me a cocktail. Good thing, as I prefer wine.

Most guys use the word "drink" if they offer, at least in my experience.

I figured it was their way of preventing me from ordering water.

I never thought about it consciously, but you are right. And that's why I love love love old men...and their old money! They tell good jokes, too.

Now that you mention it, I'm going to pay attention to that word.

I have noticed that if they say, "Can I buy you a drink" they're cheaper because they feel it's compulsory to offer. As opposed to "Would you like something to drink?"

When they say 'Get her whatever she wants to drink', I know I'm in. The cheapskates at our club will always ask what I want first to okay that I'm not trying to order cognac or a split or whatever.

I say cocktail just because I like things that are fancy, and cocktail sounds fancier than drink. I really don't hear that being used by customers, but then again, I'm in West Texas. What's to be expected?!
