    Default Hair Emergency!?!

So, I have officially lost my damn mind.

Mistake #1: I wanted to color my hair myself. I have a friend who has done mine a few times in her kitchen with the stuff from Sally's, so I figured I'm intelligent, I can do it too.
Mistake #2: I chose a drastic change. I wanted to keep the coffee brown I have now for the top half of my hair, and go bright, bright red for the under half. (I've had bright red tips before and I wanted to try it this way instead.)
Mistake #3: Instead of buying separate bleach and red coloring, I bought a creme and developer set that would lift and deposit in one step.

Now, the top half looks good, but the under half is this crazy blond, orange, red, pink concoction that looks terrible! Luckily, I didn't do enough of the bottom, so when my hair is down you can't even see it. But, I do wear my hair up at school, and what about when I'm upside down at work?

I really don't want to have to admit to my stylist what I've done, so I was wondering if I just redo the coffee brown, and apply it all over, will the bleached section even take it? And how bad is this going to hurt my hair? Also, when the color starts fading and it's time for a touch up, is some of the blond stuff going to start peeking out again?

Wow, never will I touch my own hair, ever again. :-)

There ya go. There's your answer.

Admitting to your stylist that you messed up is hard, but do you really want to risk doing more damage to your hair? Your stylist should understand that everyone makes mistakes sometimes and they can safely correct it for you since they are trained pros.

And if your stylist acts all pissy, get up out of the chair and go find a new stylist.

You run the risk of wasting more money and messing up more if you try to fix it yourself. Suck it up and get professional help!

Word. My job is to empathize and fix it, not make clients uncomfortable. Make sure your stylist is a good colorist with expierience with color correction.

Do not bleach the red out of your hair. when people bleach their hair, then want to dye it dark again, most of the time the dark hair dye wont stick because there is no red in your hair. leave the red in your hair then put the darker color over it. perhaps if you put more red dye it will even out the under part?
I wouldn't suggest putting another brown all over your hair, because you shouldn't put more chemicals on than necessary, its so damaging.
I would suggest going with a hair dye with a "natural" label on it.

I agree, just suck it up and go to a colorist that is really good at fixing mistakes. You can call around and tell them your situation and ask if they have anyone who is really good at color correction. Then they won't be so shocked when you plop down in the chair with layers of different colored hair.

I did almost this exact same thing when I was about 16...I clearly remember what it looked like...the things we do for beauty! I say go to a stylist for sure. Don't try and fix this yourself. Maybe call ahead of time and give the stylist a heads up over the phone that way you won't feel so uncomfortable when you go in person. Color Correction can be expensive but well worth it. It was a long process when I had my color corrected...like 4-5 hours but very much worth the money. Good luck and don't worry to much...hair will always grows back...THANK GOD!!

I had a bout of temporary insanity last weekend and did almost the same thing. Blonde on top, fire red streaks below. However, the streaks turned into most of my hair underneath glowing PINK!!

I just came back from the colorist this afternoon. She did an amazing job, but there is still some red in it in some places, but it can be hidden so much better. However, it's still soft, blonde and looks really fantastic.

Moral of the story: get your ass to a good salon and let them work. It will be expensive and time extensive, but worth it. If they want to trim the ends, let them do it.

Colored my own hair once, and instead of blonde, it came out looking like hay! The quote from my stylist: "Oh my god, never, ever, touch your hair again."

Well I went to my stylist and she did not laugh or sneer at me. Okay, she chuckled a little :-)
She put a coffee brown all over that matched pretty closely what I had. Then a conditioning glaze? I don't know exactly what it was, but my hair is so soft and shiny now I love it! The underside is still a tad bit lighter but you can barely tell at all.
She did insist that we go ahead and set my next appointment though so I wouldn't be tempted to do it myself again. I love her. :-)

Glad to hear everything worked out for you!! I hope you've learned your lesson, lol. We all have a coloring mishap before we dedicate the life of our hair to a professional.
