Default Somebody got a car in my name!!

Remember when I was robbed?Well my ex father in law called me today and said since he was put down as a reference(i dunno how since i had no info on him in my stolen wallet) the car company has been calling him looking for the people who have not paid them in 2 months. He said the fuck who bought the car live on Cherry Ln. in Dallas Tx. and that they gave a 702 area code for a contact number..which is Nevada.I have good credit Im ALWAYS on time on my bills lately which I take SOO much pride in because after all the shit Ive been through,Im glad Im up on my feet and doing good as far as bill payments. NOW THIS???
So I tried FREECREDITREPORT.COM but I dont have a valid credit card number so I cant get my report to see who the creditor is.
Also,my father in law gave me a number to the people who were calling about the car. I called them, explained to them that I DID INDEED make my car payment yesterday-ON TIME- and that they were saying I was late. So I gave them my social. They dont have an account under that social. This isnt my company..so I dont know WHO it was I gave my info to.I 411.com'd them and it came back unlisted. So regardless of that, somebody already stole my info...Im not too concerned about this company.
I dont know what to do

OH NO! You gave someone you don't know your social security number over the phone! If some is indeed using your Identity its a federal crime. Write down the details and contact a government credit reporting agency.

yes, or call your bank and get a free credit report.. The governement offers one every year. I hope you kept all your info after being robbed. I had my ID stolen and two cell phones bought in my name and it took me forever to prove that I was a victim of fraud.

Also, get the license plate number from the car company. then report that car lost or stolen, that should also help you locate the car. Inform more than one state, that perosn coulda left. find out when the car was given. see if there are videos cameras and if there is a video of the people who might have gotten the car. ask for descriptions. put everything on file.

    sorry this happened to you

All good ideas..but the only number to a car company doesnt even have my social on account. Thats the only starting point, and they dont have that.
I just checked my credit report at annualcreditreport.com .It doesnt show on there anything bout this. The only thing that shows is my last car payment, which shows on time...so I dunno how long it has to be before this theft it shows on my report. Im stuck.

If they don't have your social, it won't be on your credit report. How do they have a car in your name if they don't have your social?

God girl, my heart goes out to you.. You get no rest from drama.

After you get your credit report contact the credit bureaus and let them know you're a victim of indentity theft. Did you ever report the robbery to the police ?
If so you'll need the police report number too. If not,I think you should. At least to protect yourself.

When I was robbed they wrote checks, got an apt in my name and ran up medical bills. So I had to go through exactly what you're going to have to do.

Creditors are very crafty when it comes to getting people's info..I found out about the apartment that was fraudulantly put in my name because the creditor called my neighbor ! I didn't even have their number. His name might not have been used as a reference whoever called him might have just told him that in order to gather more info about you.
Creditors can do a search to see where your relatives live, what names you've used, etc.they call people w/ simular names to yours, you name it they'll do it. I wouldn't be surprised if they called other people you know. So be sure to ask every one you can think of to gather as much info about the company as they can so, you can get to the bottom of this.

I don't understand how the co. couldn't find your info under your social..Maybe whom ever you talked to was incompetent.
Try calling back and asking for a supervisor.

submit all your info regarding this issue to the FBI. They have a whole Identity Theft section on their website. The sooner you do it, the less liability you have for anything else that comes up in your name. I recently had a client pull this shit with a huge credit card charge. He had a very very good fake id, credit card and everything on someone else's name. I got paid by Visa, because my record is spotless, but it's still a huge hastle, and I had to go through the whole report thing w the FBI so they can pursue the guy.

What company is the one saying you owe them money? One well known? I dont see why you wouldnt be able to find them on the internet.

And exactly what info did you give them? If it was just some scam you may have just given them the info they needed to now be able to scam you. Name, SS#, B-Day. Does that make sense? Be very careful.

So someone stole your ID? They must look a lot like you then. Last time I got a car, I had to have my ID and SS card...

Ummm...you were part of a huge scam. Call the credit bureaus and put a lock down on your social security number NOW.

What they do is this: They call and tell you that you are late on a bill. They ask you to verify you current address/phone number and then they ask for your social security number. Then they tell you that you do not have an account. Then, they turn around and use all of that information to take credit out in your name.

Call the bureaus NOW and report this. Give them ALL of the information needed. Then, contact your local law enforcement and give them the info, as well.

    DO IT NOW.

VenusGoddess is right. Call these numbers and put a lock on your SS#. After that, go to the police.

The tiny details do not matter. They could have hacked into a business system somewhere and got some old information on you. They could have given your father-in-law "leader questions" which in turn he would have filled in the blanks..."Do you have a daughter living with you?" "Oh, I don't have a daughter...I have a DIL who lives in Florida. Why?" "We're showing that she's 2 months late on her car payment." "Oh, You need to contact her at *this* phone number." If your father got their number...they were just banking on you calling. The fact is...no company waits until the default is 2 months old to start calling. They start calling the day after the grace period.

There are a lot of things that could have happened. The good thing is that since you called this company...even if you do not have the phone number, anymore...the police can get the phone number from the phone company you used to call that phone number. BINGO!

No reputable company has an unlisted phone number. There will always be a phone number in which they can be reached that can be traced to that company.

In the event that this is, in fact, true...then you need to lock down your social security number and do it fast. However, if that other company went through all the "trouble" of tracking you down to tell you that you don't have an account...that's a scam...and you gave them all of your information.

    Don't ever do that again...
