    I think it's ridiculous.

You are supposed to gain weight while pregnant. If you eat healthy and remain active (within whatever limits are safe for you and your pregnancy) you won't gain too much.

is it like you won't gain fat and only "baby weight", ie, placenta, baby, amniotic fluid, milk, etc.? Because you are supposed to gain some fat its almost neccessary to have a healthy baby. but I suppose if you are like obese or something it wouldnt be bad, but from what you have posted and such you dont seem to be in that category by any means.

i wouldnt do it. doesnt sound healthy for the mother or the baby.

It's probably just a guide for women to eat healthy (more veggies, lean meats ect.) A lot of women these days gain tooooo much weight when they're pregnant, hopefully it's still expressing that you need to be eating properly just more healthy.

You can check with your doctor about the book. Maybe he/she has heard about it before or can recommend another book that would be helpful for you.

I don't plan on ever being pregnant again, but I wouldn't pig out during pregnancy like some do. Just so much harder to drop those pounds afterwards.

A minimum normal weight gain for pregnancy is 25 lbs. average. This can vary between women...like Nicole Richie probably needs to gain 30-35 lbs becaue she was so underweight before. A heavier woman may only gain 15-20 lbs.

But it is definatly nesessary and important to gain weight during pregnancy.

My cousin wasn't gaining enough weight (due to MS) and her doc hospitalized her.

I think that diet is silly. You need to gain weight. At the same time, I think some women in America gain too much weight and use pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever they want and to not exercise. Gaining too much weight can lead to complications such as gestational diabetes and other complications that put the mother and fetus and risk. Your doctor should be able to give you tips on moderate to light exercise and a nutritionist can give you an idea about what foods to eat. It's not just about weight but it's about getting a balanced diet (calcium, folic acid, etc) as well. It's not uncommon for Americans to be intaking too many calories but still be mal-nourished since all they are eating is crap and they are not getting enough vitamins and minerals. Women who eat nothing but doritos and cheese burgers while pregnant because they claim that they are eating for 2 are not doing themselves or their fetus a favor. (But by judging by your pics this isn't a problem for you.)

Sweetie, a lot of the gross excess baby weight is the result of women downing pints of Ben and Jerry's as an excuse of "I'm pregnant." I actually had to do research on an article back in OBGYN. No wonder kids are so fat, they get a head start on unhealthy eating in the womb. Oh, that "I'm eating for two" excuse is bullshit. You are eating for yourself and a very small child, which is only 300 extra calories per day in the first trimester. All too many women eat for two full sized people well until way after the kid is out of the womb.

Stick with the whole grains, the lean meats, the fruits and veggies, and the adequate vitamins and minerals.

As a woman who has had one pregnancy and almost finished my second round, I have to tell you that weight gain is a neccisary evil of pregancy, if you want a healthy baby without low weight complications.

The weight gained in a healthy pregnancy is as follows...

2.7 Kg (6 lbs) Muscle and fat
    1.1 Kg (2.5 lbs) Breasts
3.2 Kg (7 lbs) Blood and extra fluids
    1.1 Kg (2.5 lbs) Uterus
    .07 Kg (1.5 lbs) Placenta
.09 Kg (2 lbs) Amniotic fluid
3400 grams (7.5 lbs) Average baby

Weight Guideline (for a healty baby)

Mother healty weight..........11-16 Kg (25-35 lbs)
    underweight........................13-18 Kg (28-40 lbs)
    overweight...........................7-11.5 Kg (15-25 lbs)
    **Carrying Twins..................16-20.5 Kg (35-40 lbs)

If breastfeeding your body will also demand 300-500 Calories to produce breastmilk. This can be used to your advantage to lose post baby weight but only with a slight calorie deficit...not the entire 300-500 needed to produce milk.

The liquid gains from pregnancy are excreated via sweat, urine, and the breaking of water to lose the amniotic fluid. It is also accomplished by the blood flow from the uterus as it loses the pregnancy lining to resume normal uterine size and "normal" periods following the birth of your baby.

Just eat normally for ONE person and you will be fine. Try to eat clean and smaller frequent meals to ease the heartburn.

Cravings are alright too!!! Pregnancy should be enjoyed as much as possible after all you are in it for 9 months eh!

I've enjoyed both of my pregnancies very much and would love another go at it...however my age dampens my enthusiasm for a third child. I'm almost sad to see my pregnancy end even in spite of the heartburn, morning sickness, and feeling heavy and huge!

Taking walks with your child in a stroller or in a snugglie regularly after birth will help regain pre pregnancy weight and size.

Honestly our bodies are awesome and amazing...weaker sex my ass!!!
Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

You've done the pregnancy thing 4 times already and always got your rockin' body back after. So I would just continue to do what you've been doing. It obviously works for you.

Yeah, I wouldn't. See me. 4'10 or 4'11 and my dad is 6'3. Stunted growth from mom being a lifelong bulimic and not gaining adequately during pregnancy. From what Dr's have told me, some pregnancies will turn out ok with inadequate weight gain, other babies will have exremely short stature as adults. They can also have a whole bunch of other issues, including some severe neurological underdevelopment. I'll probably also be faced with a severely shortened lifespan.

    Not worth it....

I had my doctor- homeopathic, tell me I only needed to gain 15-18 lbs, and that is really fine.

it should be double the weight of the expected baby..... (mine was 7 lbs, based on my and his birth weights.....)

i think excessive weight gasin is rediculous.... it's the preg. excuse to eat a shit-ton iof junk.

Weight gain can vary hugely from person to person.
I know myself, I ate very healthy, was extremely active through all three pregnancies and gained far more than the "acceptable amount.
    My kids weighed 9lbs, 10lbs and 9lbs.

With all three pregnancies I gained between 50-60lbs.
I lost all of it within the first three months without trying.
For ME that amount was normal and healthy. For most women it's excessive.

I ate well with both my kids...my first I gained 19.5 pounds...with my second I gained 25.5 pounds. It's all dependant upon each pregnancy.

Don't worry about the weight. If you eat well, drink plenty of water, and exercise (at least moderately) you will gain only the weight you are supposed to gain for that child.

My friend has an ED and being pregnant did not make her change her eating (or lack of eating I should say).
She ended up giving birth to a 4'6 baby - yes it was full term but very underweight and had to be in intensive care - one of those special cribs.

I think if anything that is what women should worry about rather than gaining a little extra weight.
