Default I wish Bush would retire already.

If you liked Jimmy Carter's "National Malaise" speech from 1979 then you must have loved G.W. last night. Too painful to watch. So obvious a "FAILED President" and from his face it appears that he's FINALLY realized it himself; that he didn't believe A WORD of what he was saying and was just going through the motions.

If I were him I'd resign ; take Cheney with me and dump it all in Pelosi's lap.

Really? You think it's REALLY gotten through to him that he sucks?

    Interesting.

I thought he was in such a thick shroud of denial that nothing got through.

Pelosi is no better. Best you do some reading on shady real estate deals and government "improvements." The cancer of corruption runs thick in the US government right now.

Yeah, I think Pelosi might actually be worse. It is a dark time in the U.S. government.

Sadly....I think it will continue as we will likely get another Republican in office next election that will continue to tow the party line.

Thats the point. The Dems are banking again on people hating the current admin so much that they will vote against it..not FOR the Dem candidate. Thats the tack they took with Kerry and it backfired.

This country as a whole just is not ready to elect a woman or a black man as President. They could be the best candidate ever..and middle America will NOT vote for them. And middle american red states are who goes out to vote in droves.

What the Dems need in another Bill Clinton. A charismatic corn fed white boy.

Because sadly...the leader of the free world is elected...not on merit...but in a popularity contest.

^^^ The only way the Republicans win in '08 is to reanimate Ronald Reagan and it would still be a long shot!!!

^^^ I agree that a Democratic victory is very likely in the '08 presidential election, as is a Democratic majority in both houses of congress. That's why I'm moving as many of my assets as possible offshore and/or into foreign currencies, and why I'm heavily researching becoming an ex-pat.

The 'history repeats itself' lesson is obviously that the US economy of 2012 will likely be in about the same shape as the US economy of 1980 ... which will result in a 2012 republican landslide.

^^^ Funny I did the same thing when Bush won his 2nd term ... Also funny - how gloom and doom my conservative friends were when Clinton was elected in '92. We survived both. Well we are still not guaranteed to survive Bush!!!

Sad truth is Prez's dont have that much impact on the economy ... They'd like to think so. If u r a monetarist then u are mostly concerned with money supply and deficit reduction.. I think Billy boy did a better job with that than Bush. Tho Bill had help when Bush 1 raised taxes coupled with the Interent Boom. U can never tell.

And I remember being unemployed and broke during the first part of Reagan. INterests rates didnt come back down 'til Bush 1. Just a thought!!

FYI Mexico sounds like the place to ex-pat yourself--- there have been some home makeover shows in Mexico and it looks really nice. La Paz would be nice.. If u get any good info let me know so should Gulianni or Thompson get in and the conservative get back into both houses - Ill ex-pat myself!!

True and then some !!! It is actually the tax and spending policies set by the US congress that have far more effect on the economy. This makes for an interesting rearward looking analysis back to November 2006 !!!

Actually, because of the rising animosity factor against Gringos ( re rising corn prices & border enforcement, among other reasons ) and the growing clout of leftist gov't elements in Mexico, I'm thinking Belize or Costa Rica instead.

I disagree CK. This country could elect a female or a black as President, just not Hillary or Obama. At least I hope not.

The Dems do need another Bill Clinton, but the country does not.

On the other hand, December 21, 2012, might be the end of life as we know it on planet earth. Then again, maybe not...depends how the Hopi and Mayans actually interpret their calendar, I suppose.

Ohh Very nice - I met a guy who builds in Costa Rica .. An up & coming country for retirees and esPats alike.

Oh - Im a moneterist and I dont think tax and spending policies have that much pull on the economy except in the sense of uncontrolled deficits - like the one created by W and the republicans. Uncontrolled spending knows no party affiliation!!! It will takes real balls to reign in the our fiscal house and I am not seeing it from either party.... Like I said earlier, in the 90s we got lucky by a tax increase with a booming economy. But we cant depend on luck forever. I believe Cheney said large deficits were no big deal .. and he is a conservative? Barry Goldwater is turning in his grave..

From his affect and "body language" I think it HAS - FINALLY ! sunk in that he is a FAILED President. We've had them before and survived. The Dems survived Carter. The GOP will survive Bush. The Dems will sweep in '08 and Hillary will completely screw up the country especially the economy which btw is on schedule for a recession in late '08 or early '09. We'll have a GOP Congressional Restoration in 2010 and a probable GOP Pres. in 2012.

I KNOW Pelosi is no better. Neither are any of the Dems except maybe Biden and Obama.
If Bush had an imagination and gave a damn about avoiding a GOP wipe-out in 2008 he'd resign; persuade Cheney to do likewise and turn the whole mess over to Pelosi who doesn't have a clue either. It wouldn't take her more than 6 months to completely screw up the country which would see that the Dems are no better than the Bushies. Hillary would lose her allure as the "FIRST" female President and Obama might have a real shot.

Not without a MAJOR breakthrough in Iraq we're not. All the 'Surge" did imo is give us " less of the same" in Iraq but it's still an almost hopeless quagmire.

That's why I WANT the Republicans to nominate the WORST possible candidate. A real right wing CHRISTER so he'll get clobbered and maybe ; just maybe; realistic Republicans who believe in balanced budgets ; freedom of conscience and LIMITED government both at home and abroad will take back their party from the Religious Right and Neo-Cons.
As good a President as Reagan was ; he was the one who started this nonsense of letting Religious nuts infect policy. It continued under Bush I ; lay dormant under Clinton and reached it's zenith under G.W.

Melonie, Melonie , Melonie. I agree with the "Go neg" strategy once the Dems. take over BUT we still have Bernanke at the Fed. No need to emigrate. We survived 4 years of Carter and 8 of Clinton. We can survive 2 years of the Dems controlling Congress and 4 of Hillary. I'm buying gold and fastening my seatbelt.

Btw, I've been rotflmao as Billary alums are trying to tell us that "Hillary-care" back in 1993 and 1994 was all Bill's idea and Hillary just went along. That hersecret meetings and Congressional testimony were just part of her being a loyal dutiful wife. And the media is cooperating with this radical revision of recent history ! Will wonders never cease ?

I'm not so sure. Hillary is walking a tight-rope between Move-On.org and mainstream America. At some point she is going to have to have her own
'Sister Souljah" moment a la Bill in '92 or risk losing the General Election.
