Default Fine lines = Eye Makeup Disaster

So I went out and got a bunch of new eyeshadows and MAC paint to use as an eyeshadow base. The paint made the skin on my eyelids look terrible, all dry and crepey. Maybe at this point I should have wiped it off, put on a heavier moisturizer and started over.

I tried to gently rub it in as much as possible. Then I tried to do the bronze smokey eye look. I didn't end up finishing it, I stopped b/c the shadows seemed to accentuate every fine line. Is there a way for me to use the "Frost" textures? I've always heard it's a no-no for "mature" skin, but I'm in my mid-twenties...

The colors looked good, I'm really hoping there is a way to make this work. Would prep and prime be better? I really don't want to return it all.

Urban Decay Primer Potion is a great base for eyeshadows. If you're sticking with MAC, I've used their shadesticks as shadow base (per LatinaRose's instructions ) and not had it accentuate any crepey-ness.

What are you applying the paints with? Brush, your fingers, sponge? Was the skin dry or moisturized? Those things might also make a difference.

The skin was mosturized, just not enough maybe. I applied the paint (small amount) and rubbed it in with my finger, which is what the MA said to do.

Maybe try using a bit less? Prep + Prime sucks IMO, so I would buy UD Primer Potion if the paints absolutely do not work for you.

I used a sponge and it worked much better.

    That first time was scary.

I've had that problem with the paints too. Now, I use a heavy moisturizer and then apply the the paint with a brush and No Problem!

My problem ( although I've only tried it once) is after the paint, when I apply the shade stick, it's WAY dry and hard to put eyeshadow on over it and blend.

^^I use one or the other, not both. Seems it would be too much base using both of them.
