    Default dinner guests...

My neighbor invited me over for dinner last week.I went, was great,we played board games after. Yeah...I settled down a lot. I want to invite them...but I dont pray before my meals. She does.I feel awkward because Im not real religious in that way. Is it wrong for me to ask her to pray if I invite her? Sorry this sounds dumb..but I really dont know what to do...and I feel its not right for her to invite me over and not return the favor....you know ?

Just invite her over and sit down to eat. If she wants to say a blessing, just bow your head silently and let her. You can say amen if you want to, or not if you don't. Just because she's religious doesn't mean you have to be.

My super religious parents come over to my house to eat and will just bow their heads for a moment silently while I'm buttering my bread or putting food on my plate or whatever. They would never start saying a prayer and expect everyone to pray with them (not in MY house).

Unless she's just showboating, I imagine that is what she'd do. If she says, "Let's say grace" or anything to indicate she wants a loud, showy prayer in YOUR home, I'd say, "You're free to pray silently if you like." But then religion is a very big deal for me. As in, keep it away from me, please and thank you.

I wouldnt instigate it, not being religious myself. But if someone that was a guest in my home wanted to say grace..I wouldnt have a problem with it. As long as they arent pushing their beliefs on me...some people just dont feel right eating without saying thanks to the deity of their choice. I wouldnt say it aloud with them..but if tehy wanted to speak it or say it silently...I'd be perfectly fine sitting quietly for a moment while they do.

Just as I expect guests in my home to respect me...I respect them as well.It doesnt mean I have to partake. Just respect.
