    Buy the lady a drink?

OK so my club sells ladies drinks. They cost LITERALLY three times as much as the customers, and i see a three dollar kickback from it. The cost of a ladies drink isnt outright posted, that I've seen... Its simply "what do you want? OUCH thats a 15$ cup of hot chocolate!" And it REALLY pulls the customers out of the money spending mood.

Is it good etiquette to turn down teh drink? I dont know if it would bother club and patron if I said "That's OK--but i want you to come play wtih me instead" or something?

But i mean, if he's going ot pay 15, he may as well pay 20 for a dance(assuming he's into me, as the guys HAVE been when this has happened). But out of 15, a three dollarkickback is pretty pathetic I think... Last place I was at that did this, ladies drinks were three dolalrs MORE than the guys drinks, and i still got four dollars out of the sale.

Its all small change, but when its discouraging guys from spending, since they want to know what OTHER "hidden costs" there are, and is putting them in a bad mood...

Is it OK to just turn teh drink down? Its a non-alcohol club, and even if i order water, that price is attached.

If you can(some clubs dont allow the girls to say no if offered a drink) I'd tell the guy up front. I have in fact....when I worked at one club where you were only alowed to get a split for the girls(at $15-$30 a pop). Girls werent allowed to order reg drinks..only splits of wine. I'd tell the guy as soon as I sat down..." The drinks here for me START at $15....if you dont care about price I'd enjoy it, but if theres a choice..I'd rather you spent your money on dances...so just tell the waitress no thanks if she asks if you want to buy me a drink".

Most guys appreciated the fact that I was honest and not just trying to milk every dime out of them. Of course..I WAS...I just wanted it spent on ME not the club..lol!!

Man, I'm jealous. Our ladies' drinks are twice as much as the customers, and we have to sell 8 of them a night, or pay for them. The last few nights I've had trouble selling all the drinks (we have no alcohol, by the way), and it sucks so hard having to shell out $10, $20, or $30 at the end of the night on top of my payout

Never say no in front of the waitress - you're saying no to money for the club and a tip for her. But if you want let the customer know discretely that you don't need a drink.

what would be a good way to introduce the topic? I dont think it would do well to do it right when i sit down, before there's a "connection"... WOuld it be better to chat a minute, and then BS a story about "Well, the guy over there bought me a drink-i can't beleive how much they charge, i'd rather just dance for him instead, make sure he gets a fun time for his hard-earned money!"

Did they handle it well when you did your speech, Cam? Or were they like "What if i hadnt planned on being near her enough to offer her a drink!"

What Lena said -- before the waitress comes over, as soon as possible after you sit down, tell him "Oh, the waitress is going to ask you if you want to buy a drink for me. They're $15 and I get a small cut, but if you don't want to buy one and would rather get dances I totally understand. I can't turn them down but you can." That way you also don't put him off if he's prepared to buy them and might think you're suggesting he can't afford them. Being straightforward about it is fine.

I didnt say it the second I sat down...but yeah. If we were talking for a minute..esp if I saw a waitress en route...I'd tell them. They usually thanked me for my honesty

Hi there! Well it sucks that you don't get more money out of those drinks than that but who cares anyway when you make your money off of dances. It seems as though the girls there make good money doing the vip rooms though so 15 dollars is not alot of money for a drink if you are sitting with one of the vip customers who may be giving you hundreds of dollars. I'm sure you can tell that kind of customer by now anyway. If its some dude that may only give you $60.00 then well make sure you get him in the lap dance area before the waitress comes over or at least tell him that you do not want a beverage of any sort. Your club is also a pretty new juice bar so if you are not selling beverages but are selling alot of vip shows, I would have to say you are in good standing. I'm sure they would rather have the $50 dollars rather than the $12 dollars, right?

it's been said but i want to repeat it: never turn down a drink in front of the waitress or bartender. not only will they get mad but it could get you in trouble with management.

i would straight up tell the guy, like cameron said, you'd rather be doing dances than having that drink.

This depends on the club. I've worked at several clubs where there were no repercussions if I just didn't want a drink. A simple smile and "no thank you, I'm fine," and no one ever had anything to say about it. I've actually never worked in a club where I had to sell drinks or wasn't allowed to decline one.

but dont you think it would annoy the waitress/bartender because they're losing a sale? who knows.. all i know is i've never worked in a club where i was allowed to say no to a drink without getting in trouble or pissing somebody off.

It hasn't seemed to. I mean, I'm sure they understand that not everyone wants a drink every single time they're asked. It hasn't caused any drama with me and I generally get along pretty well with the waitresses and bartenders.

I tend to seek out more laid-back work environments though, maybe that has something to do with it. Those high-hustle clubs where absolutely everyone is out to get as much money as they can and damn whether anyone's actually having fun... I don't do well in environments like that so maybe that's where this drink situation is more of an issue.

^^^ Yeah.. it's a no alcohol club, so that's why they use us to pay for the drinks, I guess. The other non alcohol club I worked at was the same way -- either the customer buys the dancer's drinks or the dancer does, either way, the club WILL sell a set amount of drinks per dancer. Fees are high here, but there's good earning potential most of the time, so I guess I can't complain..

Our waitresses never get mad at me for that. I feel guilty having a guy shell out $5 for a Diet Coke when I know I can walk up to the bar and get one for free. I will order one occasionally with a guy, but most of the time I'm not going to be sitting there long enough to casually drink with him. The only thing I'm interested in is dances.

not trying to thread hyjack, but our club is so big, that the waitresses will come up to you during a dance! ....which i think is crazy, but i always tell them no, even though this hurts them, unless the guy offers, because bigger clubs = bigger cheapos, and i don't want to get stuck buying a drink for myself that i didn't need!

That's not fair at all! Are they allowed to make this kind of rule?

The club I worked at in Nashville was the same way. No alcohol, and we had to pay for any drinks we didn't sell during our shift. I hated doing that shit.

I often wonder what clubs are thinking when they do that. If customer has, say, $15 to spend, would club rather sell 1 more drink, but alienate customer. Or would club rather have customer distribute $15 in extra tips to different dancers, and leave happier?

I like lolagets kind of clubs better, I can tell she doesn't work @SR chain

Clubs don't give a shit. They are greedy and normally don't care what a customer spends his money on, as long as they get a cut of it.

Thats so fucked up! I had no idea this kind of crap existed!

I work at a club in Chicago area. We are not allowed to turn down drinks if offered them, but the code word for non-alcoholic drink is "breezer". Or a non-alcoholic shot is ordered "neat". The reason they do this is so they still make money on the drinks and also so the custys think they are getting the us drunk. hehe *evil smile*

Also if we hit a certain amount of champagne sales in a week, they give us the entire next week's house free. So basically they are encouraging us to sell alcohol, but not forcing us to get drunk, and definitely not charging for the drinks we don't sell! That's absolutely the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Although I used to work at a club that would charge us if we didn't sell a CR... but thats a whole other ball of wax.

I worked at a couple of different clubs in Louisville that had the "buy the lady a drink" hustle. One club, Deja Vu required us to sell a minimum of three drinks. Which was $18. Once we sold our three drinks, we got half of any drinks we we sold. I once asked the manager if I could just up my house fee by $18 and not have the waitresses bother the custies, but he turned me down. So, I would honestly tell the first custy of the night about the drink fee. Some guys would plunk, down $18 and tell the waitress to bring a round for us and then leave us alone. Others laughed it off. A few were pissed. But, I always found honesty the best policy in that situation.
