Default 20 lbs in 2.5 months?

Have any of you gained weight and had to get back to your dancing weight in a short amount of time? How did you do it? I've got about 20 lbs I need to lose by December 1st for some auditions and I'd like to know it's possible (I'm 5'5" 135.)

Any advice, tips, tricks, etc? Has anyone else had to lose 20 lbs in 2.5 months and done it successfully?

I did that, and it was not a good way to do it. What I did was eat one small meal a day about 500 calories worth or smaller, then nothing else unless I got really sick then I would eat a small piece of cheese, and workout 1-3 hours a day. I lost 33lbs, but was really sick and had to get help. I would say stay at 1200 calories a day and do 45 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of weight tranning and you should get to your goal or close to it.

5'5" and 105 is too thin. Thats clinically underweight. You dont want to be a skeleton. Focus on toning and being healthy. Its all in how you carry it. I"m 5'7" and 145 right now. If its muscle and not fat...you look good.

Emily and Icey: thank you for the 1300 thing, do you think I should only eat 1300 on the days i workout and 1200 on the days I dont?

Icey: your old diet reminds me of Emily's from the Devil Wears Prada "You see I'm on this new diet. I don't eat a thing and then when I fell like I'm going to pass out I'll have a small piece of cheese." Thank you for sharing your story with me, I will be careful to make sure I handle this in a healthy way.

    Cameron: I'm aiming for 115 not 105.

You can do that, just make sure you listen to your body make sure you eat healthy things and drink lots of water. I am 5'5 also and I got down to 110 that was way too small for me, I think 115-125 is a very good weight for our height!

LOL "The Devil Wears Prada" I did not even think of that until now, too funny!

I lost about 20lbs in about 1.5 months, the other 13 lbs took about 3 months after that. I got stuck at one weight for a long time, then one day it just started falling off again. I think what happened was that I run marthons, so once the marthons stopped, then the muscle weight came off too and I got scary thin, I gained some of the weight back when I saw a picture of me and it scared me!!! That is when I went and got help. So I went back to 120 and have been really happy since then!

yeah, water really is key in losing weight. I've noticed I do best when I drink a ton of it. just after a while, peeing all the time cn get really annoying.

Also, don't be afraid to change your diet. Caloric cycling can help boost metabolism in a way that it sort of shocks your body into burning different amounts of calories a day. Is your goal to lose fat and tone or just to lose fat? I'm 5'5" and 134 and 20lbs lost from now would make me look emaciated. Mt best quickie advice is to workout everyday (every 24 hours - not more than once every 24 hour period. The body needs time to recover), take a multivitamin, drink lots of water, do weights (you won't bulk I promise), and try different exercises.

Sorry...I read that as 30 you wanted to lose for some reason.

115 is still pretty tiny. You should concentrate on how you look and feel and how your clothes fit more then the scale..the scale can be decieving. Shoot for being healthy and toned and dont get hung on up a magic number on a scale.

On that note...the only thing thats going to do that is for you to MOVE. Calories in vs. calories out. Unfortunately theres no magic diet or pill that can get the job done...at least not in a healthy way. Cut the crap out of your diet(sugar, fast food..you know whats bad for you) and work out at least 4-5 days a week. Cardio AND weights. It wont be overnight...but you'll see results and you'll be healthier for it.

    Hey tiger's milk!

I need to do both, really. What all do you do for exercise?

I heard more than 45 mins of cardio will burn muscle, but my muscles are kinda big right now, anyway.

I really need some good ab workouts. Our coach has us do some ridiculously painful ab workouts. I'd like to think there's a better way than screaming at the end of 1.5 minutes of flutter kicks, 2 minutes of planks, 40 switches, 40 jelly bellys, and these weird side ones we do, too.

also, with the amount of ab workouts that we do, my abs are still nowhere where I want 'em, so I'm convinced that means I will need to lose weight. underneath the fat I have some sick abs and I KNOW IT. I just have to get the fat off.

you can see what I'm talking about here

You actually look like you are in pretty good shape. Adding in some cardio...running, swimming, kickboxing...will help burn off the rest

yeah, but I really wanna get down 20 by december 1st. I have some auditions then (I'm auditioning for something for fun, because unfortunately, the season would interfere with my first year of law school and you're not allowed to work your first year.)

yeah, I need to do more cardio for sure. I'm coming off a three week bursa injury right now, so I didn't do shit and now I'm in the bahbit of not doing anything. hahah

OK, THAT'S IT! i resolve that tomorrow I will be on my treadmill for an hour and then do some weight training, but what sort of weight training to do? everything gets so BORING.

look at me treating you like a personal trainer! haha

You look great btw! Depending on how many days a week you have to do weights. Me I only like to spend 1- 1.5 hours in the gym tops. Planks and flutter kicks are awesome. Do weights then cardio to lose fat. Keep up the weights to keep your tone and once the fat melts off you'll have a nicely toned body.

For weights, like I said depending on how much time you want to give, you can only train that muscle or muscle group once every 24 hours. Can't train the same muscle everyday and expect it to recover and build more muscle. For exercises, www.bodybuilding.com is excellent. I use that site all the time. They have lots of workout programs for women..you don't have to be a massive chic bodybuilder to use them either. To gain tone work that muscle 15-25 reps until exhaustion. If you want to bulk work a heavier weight at 12-15 reps until exhaustion.

For abs, depending on what you do for weights, I believe you can work every other day. Abs are one big muscle.

There are also great supplements on here. Tonalin CLA - I can't take it but it has rave reviews on here. I personally take chromium picolinate at 800mcg a day to help regulate my blood sugar level and has helped me alot.

Well...I get bored easy too. So I do hand weights in front of the TV, and I have a Bowflex. I pop in a movie or put my ipod on and lift until I'm tired. No set time(like I HAVE to do an hour....) just until I cant do anymore. I make sure I mix it up...arms and shoulders one day, abs and legs the next. You have to let the muscles rest between....you cant work the same muscles every day.

If I have rockin' music or a high energy movie on...the time flys!

And Tigers Milk is right...supplements help. I take Tonalin...and I need to try chromium again.

Starting at 130-135, at 5'4.5", I worked out 4-6 days a week, 1/2 hour cardio and one hour weights, upper body one day then lower body the next. But really fucking pushed it!

    I was down to 120ish by March/April.

I wasn't as strict on my diet at first, also I'm a veg tho so that helps. But the fitter I got, the less I wanted junk food anyway, and my stomach got a whole lot smaller so I couldn't eat as much.

I'd say even if you lost 10-15, you'd at least FEEL much slimmer and more confident, to start dancing, and then continue to lose if you want after you go back to work.

I'm working on the same thing right now myself, I'm up to 130-132 again, and want to be 120. But I'm going back to work in a month regardless, cuz I can't wait any longer!
    S

So I am totally with you on this. Good luck!

Here are some before and after pics from last time...hope to be posting more (and better ones!) after about the end of December!

The first 2 are at 130-135, the last 2 are at 120.

My original goal was 115 too, but as you can see, it would have started to look ridiculous on me if I had lost any more.

It looks like you have the same abs as me.

Its not fat you need to lose, its water weight. Though if your like me its next to impossible to lose lol. Seriously my abs get a killer work out multiple times a day and my stomach still has that softness. I have killer abs under the little tiny bit of 'flab'. Its actually not bad, guys LOVE it because it makes you look feminine.

check out the advice in that thread. pay attention to the parts talking about how working out for a shorter time at a higher intensity is better for you than working out longer. you dont need to spend an hour on the treadmill

^^ Yup, that is like the #1 mistake women make--too much cardio. In fact, you should do even less than 1/2 hour a day if you're doing weights, because it can weaken your muscles. But if you want max results, I say do it. But do it less once you reach your goal, and still focus on weights.

you said you were down to 120ish by march/april, but when did you start? I'm gonna start working out like a nut again starting tomorrow.

you wanna be my e-workout buddy? I think it'd be awesome motivation for us.

hey callyfish! Yeah, I know that pudge is considered feminine and all, but honestly, I want rock hard abs. the last time I had 'em is when I was cheerleading in college. I really miss 'em.

Have you had kids? That makes a difference as well. Im not trying to discourage you from losing weight lol. Just keep in mind that muscle weighs more then fat... if you want ab definition its going to be muscle so don't watch the numbers, watch the tone of your body.
