Thumbs down Can't Leave the House.....

I'm hiding out like a bat-shit crazy recluse. Ever since I started dancing full time I have had difficulty leaving my house on my days off. I sleep in, watch TV, post on SW, chat on AIM, etc. I do pretty much anything to avoid going into the city when I'm not working. It sorta sucks that my gym, my friends, and all the good shopping is there. But damnit, I hate waiting for the train, bumping (literally) into people, dealing with that whole hustle & bustle if I don't have to. Sadly, it hasn't always been this way. I loved going to the city and would find any excuse to do so. Now I feel like I'm keeping myself prisoner. Any advice for getting out of this rut?

Maybe a xanex and 2 shots of Cuervo would help?

Seriously though, I don't know; but I hope you get out of your rut soon!

I do the same thing. Making a living by talking to strangers (stripping) + internet access (SW and e-mail) make me anti-social.

My only suggestion is try to get in the habit of getting up and going to the gym, or going outside for a walk first thing in the morning. And don't worry about leaving the house with your hair and make up done. You're not at work- you don't have to look perfect! If nothing else, put on a hat or big sunglasses.

It may be attributed to working at night. Do you notice that many strippers just sleep and go to work.

Also people who work day jobs tend to get less sleep than we do and after they get home from work they still stay up for several hours after dinner.

One thing that used to help me at times was to leave early enough to go to the gym before work and to shower get dressed for work at the gym.

Our bodies just get tired out being up so late at night all the time. Our systems are not geared to be awake at night and asleep during the day.

Ugh I've been feeling the same way for a WHILE...part of it has to do with the fact that my friends have regular day jobs so I have no one to hang out with during the day, and by the time they're free I have to get to work...the other part of it is that I never feel like taking that 30 minute walk to the train station, waiting for the train, etc. it takes up too much time for my taste.

Where in NY are you? Send me a PM, maybe we can grab dinner or something and stop being hermits. lol

Me too! Add HBO on demand and PPV movies into that mix.

I go food shopping and do laundry and clean my house, but I just love being at home on my days off. I am actually worse about it on break from school than during school. But even going out to dinner seems like such a chore, I am usually exhausted.

I can so relate. I believe that dancing was a major contributing factor to me being a recluse. I eventually learned that I love my time alone, and tried to make it into something positive, by learning to love the fact that I am "independent" and "don't bore easily."
A year later and retired, I'm still a loner .
Sometimes though, you really DO need to get out and be social, just to keep "functional," I believe. A lot of times, I really have to push myself. I try to think of how I really do feel better after spending time out, with friends, or whatever. Then I don't feel so guilty about the days where I do want to sit in and read, write, be on SW.

Dude, you live in NYC... Enjoy it! It's an awesome city! Just think about how many people (like me) would KILL to live in such an incredible city! Now go out there and be a New Yorker!

I actually found this condition on the National Sleep Foundation website. It's called Shift Work Sleep Disorder and it stems from working late and/or irregular shifts.

Here's the link for some tips to combat it...

personally, I think that this is primarily related to 'sacrificing' all aspects of personal privacy when dancing, such that you subconsciously covet all of the privacy you can get when you're not dancing !

I like taking a day every week (or, I'll settle for two if I'm busy) where I can lay around the house all day and be a hermit. I think most "normal" people call those their "Sunday", so I don't feel guilty or weird at all about doing it.

It's been mentioned already, but I have also found that waking up, taking a shower, and actually getting dressed helps. Otherwise, I look at my to-do list and think, "Damn, I have to get ready TOO?!"
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
