    Default Creative knee pads?

Has anyone here come up with a creative way to protect their knees?
My knees are trashed...they burn like fire every time I kneel...by the end of the night I am in intense pain...ugh.
I will be seeing a physical therapist soon but I know they will recommend stopping the activity which is causing me pain which is not an option.
I have tried regular knee pads under leg warmers, thigh high boots, and stockings...but my money takes a HUGE dive whenever I cover up my legs. I only do floor work on a blanket now but that only helps a bit.
Why doesnt a alternative to ugly thick black knee pads exist!!??
If you got an idea let me know!

There used to be a costume(Sorry..cant find a pic) that had little shorts or skirt, and knee pads with a tiny top that said "white house intern".

Of course..it was funnier during the Clinton administration....but maybe you can use the idea and update it.

Maybe you could do a sports getup so the kneepads look like they're part of the outfit. Like a baseball baby jersey top and booty shorts with some cute kneepads covering over the clinical ones. Or if you can find a decent looking black pair?. Even though kneepads aren't part of the typical baseball uniform, this is fantasy land, so it's not like there's any shame in wearing garters or stillettos along with it either. As long as it looks like part of the outfit. If anyone asks, just tell them you injured yourself when sliding into home base. That should keep them amused for a while...

This could work for some other sports too I imagine.

Ahh, one reason why I don't do stage. If I'm going to screw up my knees dancing, it will be in the VIP where I'm making real money! When I did dance, I used thigh highs a lot and put those icy hot patches on. Helped a little.

    Default Wrestling Kneepads

Have you tried wrestling knee pads? They're much less bulky than your standard (volleyball) kneepads.

The McDavid brand is good. You can get them at www.McDavidUSA.com or Sports Authority stores, but the McDavid website has way more selection. Model 410R in size medium is nicely padded without being too bulky and conspicuous.

Also, Asics has something called the Jr. Gel Kneepad that has a very nice, slim profile. The Jr. size is a bit small, but may still fit some girls. If you can find it in the adult size, you're set. If you do find it in the adult size, let me know -- I want some!

All of the above options will probably show though your stockings, but they will stay concealed under cute, puffy legwarmers.

    Hope this helps!

OMG - that gives me an idea... what if someone - somehow MADE like cute covers for the smaller kneepads that match the outfit?! LOL... like they can slide over or cover and velcro on the side?

I knew a girl that wore kneepads everynight. It was kinda like her signature and she looked like she belonged on the mickey mouse club. So cute and young....

Actually, Audrey, I'm looking for a seamstress to sew legwarmers that match my outfits and are tall enough to cover my knees and puffy enough to conceal kneepads. Anyone out there good with a needle and thread?

what type of legwarmers and stockings turn guys off???? would you mind describing/showing what you've been using?? Because, just perhaps, it's the TYPE of covering for your legs that's been hurting your money- instead of the fact that you hAvE been doing it.

When I want to give my knees a break, I use American Apparel's stockings (i have 'em in 5 different colors!!) and they both pad my knees and increase slidiness across the stage to lessen impact. http://store.americanapparel.net/rsaskth.html they come in solid, too... durable &thicker fabric. i also wear 'em under my leathers... LOVE 'em! they can be playful or sexy depending on the colors.

Anything, depending on color! I have a pair of solid black ones that obviously go with almost every outfit on the planet, a pair of navy blue w/ white stripe that are more sporty, a pair of red w/ white stripes that are fun w/ white bra/panty set, and a pair of green ones i plan to wear w/ my peter pan halloween costume. some guys even ask for me to keep 'em on during private dances... fine w/ me!!!

they are GREAT in the winter for staying warm!

but i must say... those fluffy things... might scare custies a bit....

I love American Apparel socks! I cut the toes off to turn them into leg warmers. I wear red/white striped ones with a tiny red skirt from Body Zone, a cut-off white tank that has some red & black old english lettering on it, some sparkly dog tags that sit between my boobs, and a red choker wrapped twice around my wrist. I love that outfit!

ETA: I love the fuzzy legwarmer things for gogo dancing, but for stripping I'd be a little unsure. You have to have the perfect outfit. I've seen one girl rock em so they looked hot and a few more that looked stupid trying to copy her. I stick to regular leg warmers. Well, stripper ones anyway

    Bumping this.

I've seen girls with cute legwarmer-type knee pads, but I'm just wondering if you guys have any more advice on the subject. I've been dancing for six months now, and even though I'm still stiff from the rest of the work, my knees take the worst of it. I usually wear leg warmers to protect my knees a bit during stage work, but even they only protect a little bit. Any ideas on alternatives? Cute outfits, different moves, or any ideas would be appreciated!

Glucosamine can be a good start for repairing damage. It takes about a month of daily use for it to kick in, though, and its effects are more on the minor side. It's just there to help your body heal itself. In the meantime, Aleve is your friend.

I had knee issues pretty soon after I started dancing, too. My solution has just been to be more mindful of what I'm doing when I dance. When I first started, I had no idea how to do anything and I was super wobbly in my heels, so I did a lot of floor work that had me standing on my knees -- big ouchie, bad idea. I still do a lot of floor work, but I definitely stand on my feet more now. I'm getting better at "dancing" by standing in different poses. When I do get on the floor for floor work, which is still more often than I'd like, I take take to avoid putting any weight on my knees, and try to minimize any strain (like that squat thing where you sit/bounce on an invisible chair/what-have-you). I'll sit on my heels/calves instead, or even just flat on my butt. Maybe some rolling/laying down. Whatever I do, I try really hard to be gentle with my knees. If I'm giving a floor/lap dance, I let my costume fall approximately where I'll want to put my knee if I decide to do any floor work midway through, so that way I'll have some padding for the few seconds I'm down. Knee pads are something I've considered too, but I haven't actually incorporated them yet. I figured maybe someday I would find some high heels I could glue fake wheels to the side of and put together a neon roller derby/school girl outfit, complete with knee pads and gloves. Make the knee pads a feature part of the outfit instead of trying (and probably failing) to hide them. Haven't actually gotten on any of that, though. Thanks for bumping this thread -- some nifty ideas here for a more subtle approach than over-the-top neon skater girl.

Personally, and I'm like sure it's because I'm a baby stripper still ;-), my knees are absolutely WRECKED after a shift. Pain, and horrible bruising all over....I never ever take off my thigh highs during a shift, even in vip and it's never been a problem. I'm thinking the other dancers have from experience figured out how to stretch before a shift to avoid bad pain, and during stage sets are careful in the way they land, move, change poses in a way that saves their kness... Maybe putting more weight on the arms? In going to try less crawling. Unsure. Still figuring it out! However if it's just bad pain maybe a change of shoes would help. I switched shoes and my pain improved by like 40%.
