    Default Climbing the pole

I can spin around straight and sideways until I drop, but I can't put one foot in front of the other and climb it vertically. Right now, I can do one small hop and cling to it for dear life two feet off the ground but I am unable to do a second hop.

Does anyone have any suggestions at all? Also has anyone else had this problem and how long did it take you to overcome it. I am of a normal weight, and in shape, not muscular but look like everyone else who can climb the pole. Am I a pole challenged retard or is this normal. Thanks. :-)

Everyone's different. Climbing the pole was natural and an immediate accomplishment. Spinning gracefully took a while.

Maybe it'll help if you look up where you want to go and just get there? That's what goes through my head when I climb. Point A to Point B. Not much more thought than that. The faster you climb, the easier it is.

I watched a video and tried to follow someone else's technique and FAILED.

You can hold the pole with the instep of your foot. The plastic on your shoes will help you grip it. I'm sure there are many threads on this, so try doing a search with the "search" function on the fuschia colored bar along with "my settings," "faq", etc.

I am the same as you, but have got a girl to teach me one climbing technique which i can almost do.
Facing the pole I cross my right foot towards me and to the left side of the pole and push the outside of my foot in the wee ankle "nook" into it, at the same time i cross my left foot in front of the pole to the left and hook the pole in the back of my ankle. it's then a case of pulling my weight up on my arms and repeating the move to climb higher.

    hope that made sense.

I started off doing the movements whilst standing on the floor to get the hang of it, then i practised it while holding myself off of the ground. Next step is the climbing! i think it def needs a lot of upper body strength so i have been practising holding my weight with just my arms gripping the pole.

If you climb properly the push is with your thighs, using a reliable `bottom lock` with your shins and calves.
This means you will never have to use your arms to lift or pull, or sting the front of your ankle/foot.
If you want to get another climb, then keep your tummy away from the pole so you get another `shin then calf` lock and up you push again.
Then, re-arrange hands, and off you again for a third.

I made a video on the leg grip you need. But there's no voice-over and I disappear off the top after 2 steps!!! HAHAHAHA.

Jezzebelle is right - if you get the leg grip right, then your arms just "hold your position" as you lift your legs.

I wish. Iv got a kind of Expo going on at my Venue in November, so trying to keep myself focused on that. I was trying to get another pole into my pad to make 4, so I could ask Pantera to come down but the Expo thing shot that all to hell too.

    Boo

You are always welcome to come to mine for a Jam, long way to drive I know though.
