You could take a couple classes. Actually, do private lessons. Most classes teach the cheesy stripper housewife moves for half the class, so you'll actually get more value if you pay for a private lesson focusing strictly on pole work. You can also be sure you won't hurt yourself and learn proper form and what not. I've seen private lessons advertised for $80 an hour around here and you could always split it with a friend.

Or you could just ask some girls at your club to show you their moves before work and then practise at home. When I first did pole work a lot of girls seemed happy to help if I just asked...

There are some good videos out there. The Fawnia video is ok, but there is a better one. I can't remember the name of it- I think it has a black background with pink lettering. I will try to find out for you. I used to have a copy but I gave it away...

Do youtube searches for "pole dancing" there are tons of videos. Alena Downs teaches online too.

It depends on how you learn. The majority of the best pole dancers have taught themselves by watching others and experimenting. Some girls can't learn well on their own and need help.

I've never been one to need explicit definitions and descriptions of hand and body placements etc but you may want that, in that case an instructional video or class might be best. If you think you can learn by watching others and playing around on your own you may be a watch and learn person and probably wouldn't need to do more than watch a youtube or some girls from the club.

I think spins can be quite intuitive when you know a basic one, it's just a case of adapting, and working out where to put your feet. So for spins you can have a wee look through you tube.
But i think when it comes to inverts you really need someone to teach you (and spot you). It might be a good idea to work on strength and more spins and climbs at the moment, and when you feel lie going more advanced go for some lessons.

How long have you been dancing Windy? I danced for 3+ years and never picked up a real pole trick, so that told me I'm not a natural pole dancer (lol, booty shaker here) and would need some instruction. If you've been dancing for awhile and still haven't learned much on your own, I'd go for private lessons. If you split it with a friend, it's only $40ish each. (I'd do it in the studio if splitting with a friend so you don't have to share a pole.) Do a private session, then practice for a couple weeks, then take another one to learn more advanced stuff. Or youtube it at that point.

Oh and I would shop around for a nice big mirror b/c you will totally want at least one on the wall directly in front of your pole.

I live alone so yea I think buying a few private lessons would work for me. I'd hate to do a trick alone by myself, and get hurt. I'll need someone to help spot me in case of any beginner accidents.
