    Default Let's see...."cat containment systems" ...?

So I'm moving to a place that is GREAT except for it being on a real busy street.

I noticed there were cats chillin around the place, smart ones that is. My cat is just...I dunno, he's a wild man, I don't trust him!

I've been looking up cat containment systems like this one:

But check out how dag-on complicated the shit is to install! You need PVC pipe, saw, tools, etc. Probably amazing algebra skills too.

Anyone ever used something like this or know someone who has?

Hell no. Your cat is going to become an indoor cat if the street is busy.

A friend of mine tried one of those, his cat didn't seem to care. I'm torn on letting cats outside, since they will basically get out if they want to anyway. In theory, it's awesome. Explaining a freshly run over cat to a 6 year old? Not so awesome. We live on a ridiculously suburban mellow subdivision road, and it still happened. Best of luck to you, but please try to keep your "wildman" inside.

you should keep your cat inside. If you want to let you kitty out side while you go outside get a kitty leash.

^^Those are great! My grandparents had a really big one made with glass and a very strong screen. Their kitties loved it!

I have a semi- outdoor/indoor cat. At first, I kept him on a leash when he would go outside. I still put a kitty harness on him, when he is out. After a month on a leash, I would go outside with him exploring our 'hood. My man and I took turns with this for a month or so.

I live in a very animal friendly neighborhood. When I first started letting Pantera go outside alone, I got calls from people on the street and other neighbors. (He has my cell# on his collar). He is very social, so if a person were to leave their door open, he would just walk right in and see what kind of food they might be eating. People were actually looking out for my 'panther',LOL!

The one thing I will never do is let him out when nobody is home.

If I didn't let him every once in a while , he might go crazy and maybe eat us

(I'm sort of kidding, but he is an extremely athletic and social cat. He loves people and other animals, cats, dogs, squirels....whtevr.)

Nope, 'Laska, I don't think that you should trust the wild man !

Both our cats are 100% indoor and will live longer because of it. The wifey lost 2 Siamese cats to traffic before we met, and is understandably pro-indoor. I lost an adventuresome cat to coyotes during bachelorhood, so I'm inclined to agree with her...

No fleas or risk of feline leukemia are nice bonuses, too...

I would never let any of my catrs outside alone. WAY too many dangers...from fighting, disease, cruel people, cars.....
I have a screened in patio that my male goes outside on(my female hates it outside). He gets fresh air, and sunshine and watches the birds flying above and the lizards running up and down the screens and is perfectly happy AND safe.

If you cant have that...this is a pretty close second. There are several differant options on here so you should find one that suits you.

    Awww, thanks so much everyone.

He's the first cat I've ever had that's been outside, but also the first that wasn't in Jersey...

I know it's not a great idea but he does come home everyday, collared/shots, and my neighborhood is pretty damn "serene southwest".

He just likes to play 24/7, just a natural athlete, but also xtremely snuggly and adaptable. He's cool being in the car even for 3 days at a time (one in a million I tell ya) and when I lived in Jersey with him for 8 months he stayed inside.

He was used to staying inside, but I know he's all curious and gets bored--I've seen him playing with his own tail! I'm a good mom but he's just that way, that's why I've let him out.

Thanks for the links, TatooGodess n Cam...those look funny and awesome at the same time.

He will be alright. He'll live! For sure not going to let him out. I actually had turned down other apts. because of being on a busy road, but this one is just way too good, and I'd been looking for 4 months.
